AOcL's Green New Deal pipedream

What's wrong is our authoritarian president declaring and emergency he created and in so doing circumventing the constitution and the fundamental separation of powers which is basic to our democratic republic. What's wrong is uninformed people like yourself who would rather be led around by the nose by a wannabe dictator who is systematically doing his best to destroy this country. Trump's autocratic tendencies are blueprint...tell everyone he's the only person who can fix things; denigrate the fundamentals of our democracy, declare the 4th estate the enemy, and lie to a point where people don't know what is the truth.

Amazing. You suggesting others are uninformed just after you suggested that Trump created the illegal immigration emergency. That is flat out a lie and a big LIE!!!

Trump is doing his best to force a solution to this problem. For you to suggest that Trump who has been just a couple of months over two year as the President created this fricking immigration mess is just outlandish.

We have some 50,000 +/- a few thousand of illegals camped on the South side of US/Mexico border. They are just waiting to illegally cross the border into the US. Once they do that we are stuck with them.

How many are we supposed to take. There are literally millions who will flood this country unless we get our laws and border control under hand.

Just a couple of months ago I was on the southern border of Arizona for three weeks. It is impossible for the Border Patrol to stop the illegal crossings in that area. Only a wall will do the trick.

Trump is going to do what he can legally to find a solution to this problem. He is the first President we have had in decades that has the guts to tackle these difficult problems.

Putin is from Vladivostok. That's the birth place of the Russian Mafia. The guy
ain't nothing but a Mafia hood. And yes i've done my research.

Regardless which side of the fence you’re on, it’s unlikely that you will ever be satisfied with American politics again. Even if your horse wins the race. At least us senior citizens.

You're absolutely right they are horses running a race. Now it would be different if they
were people instead of horses. But that's what we're stuck with.

Today, I would not have voted for Barry Goldwater has I did in my first eligible vote. I credit my naive vote on my south side Tulsa bubble, private school, Southern Hills upbringing. My dad thought FDR was a communist.
Unrelated but Hey, SE Hinton featured you 'rumbling' with my Dad's crew @ Mohawk Park back in the day...:)

Enjoy the 2 night feature on History Channel everyone: Presidents at War

An undeniable truth. 8 years under Obama saw black American poverty go up and home ownership go down. Black on black crime set records. Today, the people "racist" Trump hates most, black Americans and Hispanic Americans, see the lowest unemployment numbers since records have been kept. Me and 14 percent of the brothers voted for Trump. Many black Americans either didn't vote or voted down ticket. We just couldn't vote for another plantation cracker.

We must work on the sisters. Only 4 percent of black women voted Trump.

You get an F in Research Theory 203. Putin is from St. Petersburg not Vladivostok. The Russian Mafia (Prestupnaya) has been around for 100s of years. No one can really say where it got started.

History Channel is exceptional today: right now explaining the failure of Woodrow Wilson's Treaty of Versailles causing Germany to fail and create the rise of Hitler & Tojo and seeds of WWII (in a nutshell)

Scottsdale it's obvious you got your info from the Donna Trump. It's you who gets the F. Putin ain't nothing but a Mafia hood.

Professor Jeremiah, at the risk of sending your knowledge filled mind into information overload, my info comes from traveling to Russia on business for 27 years, being married to a Russian for 22 years, spawning a half Russian/Half Okie, speaking the language and owning a house on 7 acres in Aniva, Sakhalinsk (look it up, it's not far from Vladivostok). Donna Trump comes to me for advice. I think you misspelled "nuttin".

Yea scottsdale and those russians told you what they wanted you to hear.
Anybody whose done any reasearch knows that the russian mafia started in
Vladivostok. It's also obvious to me that your wife would never want anyone
to know that Putin is a lying SOB. They still like to pursuade the rest of the
world that he's a goody 2 shoes. Look's to me like you fell for that line. We
can argue about this all day long but Trump and Putin are made from the
same cloth, low life scum. Oh in the last election I voted for the ibertarian,
Johnson. Not because I wanted him, but rather the other 2 were, and still
are political scum.

Oh, just so you're aware, in the last 3 days, the EU has declared the Saudis a
terrorist state. Just another one of those lines you came up with about how
secure the OPEC$ really is, it ain't . Seems like you ain't near as educated as
you claim. When they become isolated, and they will, then s h i t will hit the fan.
That US$ ain't anywhere near as secure as you claim. Get off your high horse
fella. Your bias is very obvious, you love kissin trumps butt. Me, I know they all
get where thier going by owing favors and when they get there, it's time to pay
up. trump and peolsi are both cut from the same cloth. Todays poltician with few exceptions are all the same. Trusting them is a disaster just waiting to happen.

Wow, you got me Jeremiah. It's damn hard to argue with your fact filled comments. The EU added Panama and Nigeria to that list also. Fact: If a country's banking regulations (cash transfers) do not conform to EU guidelines then it can be added to the same list as Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Panama. Now that you have convinced us of your political, national debt and budget intelligence please give us your take on international banking. Are you related to Roy D. Mercer?

I was wondering why I hear news of very wealthy & probably intelligent folks raining big bucks on the 20+ budding Dem/socialist leftist candidates for 2020 so asked a few astute folks what would motivate an individual to promote anarchy and utopian ideologies. The best and simplest answer I've heard so far is that 'some rich/wealthy people love power and authority: socialism gives that to a select few'...

You refer to the elites. They took power after the French were kicked out of Southern Rhodesia led by Robert Mugabe. Zimbabwe was the bread basket of the African continent and possessed the crown jewel health care system. Then the government takeover came in the early nineteen eighties. The rest is history, with socialists in this country hell bent on repeating.

IA - I think identifying these very wealthy contributors to socialist candidates would partially answer your question. You can bet it is not old money such as Rockefellers, Morgans, Mellons, Fords or Carnegies. You can also taken the more modern day wealth such as Kochs & Bechtels off this list. All Wall Street wealth will not side with socialism. Silicon Valley - Bingo. There are hundreds of internet millionaires and some billionaires that simply do not have the common sense of a snail and have no life experiences to learn from. They are one trick ponies that have amassed millions sitting in front of a computer screen or playing on their phone. The biggest problem is that the form of socialism that is being sold to them is masked in buzz phrases like medicare for all and free higher education. So "probably intelligent" may not apply to your observations.

In fairness to many youngsters, hopelessness plays a role. $1.5 trillion is owed in student loans, much of it for dubious degrees. Nixon untied the dollar to gold in 1971. The buck no longer matches up with productivity. The rich generally see incomes soar. The vanishing middle class does not, even as they see their own productivity rise.

The Fed prints with nothing to back. Prices go up. Should the U. S. lose world reserve currency status, we're Greece.

The US actually abandoned the gold reserve in 1933 during the Depression. That's how the New Deal and WW2 were funded. Of course, the results of the New Deal are always up for debate since that was the first time the federal government dumped that much money into the non-government sector in that short of time. Nixon formally floated the US dollar in 1971 to keep US dollar flush foreign governments from raiding the US gold reserves.

There's no way the US dollar could be tied to gold now. The growth of the economy would be severely limited by the availability of incoming gold. You'd have to tie it to multiple assets to pull it off.

The US and Greece aren't comparable IMHO. Greece killed its own currency well before joining the Euro. They borrowed heavily from foreign governments largely for consumption. Their pension system is ridiculous. They fudged their books to be able to join the Euro and were rewarded with a credit status similar to very productive European countries which immediately lowered their borrowing costs despite their actual unadulterated financial situation. At that point, they handed out their financial autonomy and began spending heavily on consumption again. Their joining of the Euro allowed other European countries to meddle in their financial business. The problem has been that they don't all agree how to recover Greece which has led to weird but probably very predictable effects from the mandated austerity and bailout money.

Good read on Greece if you're interested.

I certainly agree with you on what drives some in the younger generation to see socialism as a winner. They just don't educate themselves on the downsides of it. We need to quit peddling the idea that the only path to success is through a college degree. The most financially successful guy I know in person started as a roofer with a big dream and a high tolerance for risk and now owns a large commercial roofing company.

Who set the scam up that lets the mega rich 1/1000th percentile pay a lower tax rate than old married couples breaking their backs to survive ?
The rich and soon to be rich people in DC. They can flap their gums about fleecing the wealthy all day, but wealthy people largely pay the rate on capital gains taxes. Most of those folks don't make the majority of their income from "ordinary income." They can also afford teams of accountants to reduce their tax liability to the bare minimum.

Bingo - Give this man a cigar. Hit the nail on the head. Bullseye. The wealthy are happy to let Washington DC think they are the smartest people in the room. Changing tax rates have zero effect on what the wealthy will pay. There are more vehicles to pay less for the wealthy that simple do not apply to lower income tax payers. Once anyone crosses that "upper income" threshold there is a team of corporate CPAs to drop your total taxes to less (on more).

The most successful guy I ever knew was now dead Football John. OU nut. High school drop out who founded a female business fashion company. Flight attendant uniforms and the like. I loved company meetings and dining with his models. Models had to be minimum 5'6" to be employed. Models loved John because they could stay well covered modeling his fashions. I got to watch some still photo shoots for business magazine ads. Some models refused swim ware and undergarment modeling. For the life of me, I don't know why. They looked perfect to me.

Attended many OU games with football John. He looked down on blacks. He watched his language and demeanor in my presence. Although my appearance is more toward my European Caucasian mother, John was well aware from where I came. We were friends.

Sunny we have seen other examples.

Lumumba the empty suit who destroyed the Congo’s thriving economy under Belgium rule and Mobutu who later used the treasury as his own private bank.

Komrade Bob who seized rich farm land from white farmers and devalued the Zim buck leaving Rhodesia in ruin.

This is what AOC wants for you. Read. Learn. Socialism where ever tried kills

Socialism works quite well in Norway. Norway is ultra rich in natural resources, fish, petroleum, natural gas, timber, etc. Norway is the world's third largest natural gas exporter with a population of a paltry 5.2 million. Socialists often site Norway as a target for their Utopian dreams. Venezuela, Zimbabwe and the U. S. have a bit bigger populations and a bit more complexity in the equation.

You are mentally ill and incapable of making sense of anything. But, you can’t help it.
I’m sorry that you and the other liberals suffer from liberalism, which is truly a very sad and debilitating brain disease.
As of now there’s no cure for the disease that you and your ilk suffer from. Which is the biggest problem for this country that’s out there.

HL Mencken saw this coming...

"...The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule."
Bingo!!!

Norway does not consider themselves pure socialist. They will tell you that they have more billionaires per capita than the USA and that can't happen in a pure socialist government. They call themselves a Social Democracy. The litmus test for Norway is how companies are managed. The workers do not run the companies by committee like in socialist countries. Norwegian corporations like Statoil Norsk Hydro (now Equinor) is 67% owned by the government and balance by private investors. In very simple terms, 67% of their annual after tax profit goes to a variety national funds. And it is no small amount when attributed to a small population.

I had not given your personal circumstances much thought one way or the other until someone posted a comment about your success and your Corvette collection as if these facts somehow ordained you as a savant on social and political issues.

Yes, the guy who keeps boasting about how educated he is actually posted this.

Conservatives vs. Liberals or call'em Republicans vs. Democrats, hell man they
all play favorites. They all owe a group of mostly 1%ers that they will do their
best to repay and that's the real world of American politics. And how do they
repay, by spending a part of the budget on crap that those 1%'s can make
money off of. Next to the Japanese the US has the highest per capita debt of
any country on earth. All to the benefit of the 1%er. So forget this crap about
Conservatism, there ain't no Conservatives in this government. Not one
modern day Republican President has made any real attempt at submitting
a balanced budget. And even if they tried, the Congress, both parties, would
find a way to overspend it.
