Will this be the 3rd recruiting class in a row taking or wanting to take 4 WRs? When will Coach Jones WRs start playing winning football?
I'd argue that Jones has 1 unproductive year almost directly due to a historic injury bug. The 2023 WR core was very solid and was nationally lauded going into 2024 before those injuries occurred. I'm not sure why you're acting like this has been a longstanding problem...
Under Emmett:
Nic Anderson finally had a healthy year and started the 2023 season off as WR3/4 and still ended up with nearly 800 yards and 10 TDs
Drake Stoops has a great year with 962 yards and 10 TDs
Jalil Farooq had his best season as a sooner with 694 yards and 2 TDs (789 yards if you include rushing)
Andrel Anthony was Emmetts first major portal WR and led the b12 in yard before getting hurt on the 6th game of the season. Finished with 429 yards 1 TD
Jayden Gibson went from a guy people had on and off the field concerns about and matured to improve his terrible drop problems and had multiple big plays to the tune of 375 yards on 14 rec for 5 TDs
Brennan Thompson got his feet wet and was a solid contributor for 241 yards and 2 TDs on 7 rec.
Now fast forward to 2024 where every guy listed above either left to the NFL (Drake) or was out with injury for the majority of the season. The only guy above that played multiple games was Brennan Thompson and he was supposed to have the smallest role of that ground going in to the season. That's 1843 returning yards and only one of the returners were healthy enough to play more than 2 games in the season. The prized portal WR Deion Burks was only able to play 5 games this season (not a 5 full games either) and the QB play was horrendous through and through. So basically you have :
Terrible QB play
Only 13% of your returning yards was able to play more than 2 games and even he was hurt on and off
Some true freshman in a bad situation
Now I would have liked to see more steps from Kearney earlier, but its intellectually dishonest to act like Emmett's room wasn't set up for failure all things considered.
@BigCrimsonTX Here dawg, here's your thread
