Multiple sources on both the OU side and the Denton Ryan side have informed me in recent days that Oklahoma is on top for Ty Haywood. I was surprised to hear this because the elite 2025 OL has not visited OU in over seven months (Sooners under the Stars in late July was his last trip), but even so, it sounds like Bill Bedenbaugh and Oklahoma have set the tone in this recruitment. The big question now is whether the Sooners can stay on top, as Texas and Texas A&M are hot on their heels. To that point, Haywood did choose to attend the Aggies’ junior day on Jan. 27 instead of Oklahoma’s. However, the current expectation is that Haywood will be back in Norman for the spring game on Apr. 20.

He’s the nation’s No. 16 overall player in today’s Rivals250 update. Similar to Lamont Rogers and Michael Fasusi, I’m nowhere near FutureCast territory with Haywood, because I’m just not confident enough (yet) that this lead holds. But at the very least, I figured I’d pass along the positive buzz.

Some of the talking heads were talking about him being a FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK. Seriously. The talk is that this year's quarterback group is really deep, and next year's isn't expected to be. Some of the talking heads were talking about him in the first half of the first round. Not too sure about that. But his arm is live, which is why he was so highly rated after being seen at high school camps.

And BTW, Longhorn Xavier Worthy ran the fastest 40 in the history of the combine. 4.21. So emblematic of Longhorn talent, that the only time LH beat the Sooners in the last four years, was when we came without a quarterback. They did wax us. Otherwise, didn't happen.

I incorrecty thought the women's streak for all sports was 70 games. But that was short by over 40 by UConn in basketball.

Oklahoma actually leads here, which was a bit of a surprise, but Guillory has openly acknowledged that reality to me and to other members of the media. His visit last month was eye-opening. The question becomes 1) whether the Sooners can hold the lead until the summer, and 2) what happens if Trystan Haynes decides he wants to commit in the meantime. I expect OU to land Maliek Hawkins and Cobey Sellers, and given that Haynes is an in-state kid, you can't turn him away. That would create quite the predicament at corner if Guillory's high interest in Oklahoma is sustained.

No. 1 Oklahoma Softball celebrates the historic opening of Love's Field this weekend with five games over the course of three days in Norman.

The Sooners (14-0, 0-0 Big 12) open the inaugural season at their new home on Friday, March 1, against Miami (OH) at 2 p.m. CT and will follow with a contest against Liberty at 5 p.m. the same day. All tickets, including standing-room only areas, are sold out for opening day at Love's Field. OU will also face Louisiana (11 a.m.) and Liberty (1:45 p.m.) on Saturday, and Louisiana on Sunday (12:30 p.m.).

Liberty will play Tulsa at Marita Hynes Field at 12:30 p.m. on Friday followed by a 5 p.m. ULL vs. Miami (OH) matchup at Marita Hynes. Liberty and Louisiana will play neutral-site games at Love's Field on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.

Each game of the OU Tournament featuring the Sooners will be streamed on ESPN+ ($). All five OU games will be broadcast on 1560 AM/103.3 FM The Franchise 2 with all but Friday's first game also airing on 107.7 FM The Franchise.

To celebrate Love's Field's historic day on Friday, an Opening Day and Dedication Ceremony will take place outside the main stadium gate (Gate 1) at 11 a.m. Season ticket holders and the public are welcome to attend. The event will be standing room only on the south side of the stadium, off Imhoff Rd. Following the ceremony, stadium gates will open to fans who hold tickets to the 2 p.m. home opener.

Other than the last loss for OU they said it was a great weekend, a great gathering and one hell of a good time.

Been in touch tonight with Richie O’Leary, one of Rivals’ most active and well-sourced reporters up in the Northeast.

He likes OU for Kole Briehler; so do we at the moment. Richie has fired in a FutureCast that favors the Sooners and I am following suit.

Interview below. Wayyyy too early to tell if Oklahoma even becomes a finalist for the kid. But one thing that did stand out to me is that he's cut from the exact same cloth as Seth Littrell. Stocky, muscular country boy with a drawl and a no-nonsense attitude. All he's missing is the chaw.

Kansas four-star OLB Dawson Merritt just let me know that he plans to take an OV to Oklahoma April 6 weekend. He also heads to Nebraska for an OV April 13.

"I’m really looking forward to evaluate if I will be to call one of these places home. I would say that I love both of these coaching staffs and everything else about them, now I feel like it’s about their vision for me as a person and a player and how I enjoy the Lincoln and Norman as a city."
