Recruiting Sunday Sermon: On the state of recruiting...

As we prepare to make the full transition to the On3 network on Tuesday, there are changes coming to the weekly content lineup that I believe you as members will enjoy. One of the new features with which I'm experimenting is a weekly recruiting editorial, designed to bring members up to speed on what has occurred throughout the week — and shed some light on the behind-the-scenes realities of those occurrences. I'll offer some of my own thoughts, I'll preview what lies ahead, and I'll also likely incorporate a Q&A section into future columns. But as this week has brought both triumph and defeat for Oklahoma on the recruiting trail, I do believe it's well worth my time to address all of the relevant storylines and opinions surrounding Oklahoma recruiting in one fell swoop. So here we go...

Mattress Suggestions

I got no feedback on the main board, so I came over to ask yall. Mods, if this topic can't be here, feel free to delete.
there's already a thread on this, I apologize.
I'm in the market for a new mattress. I'm just curious what recommendations do yall have. I'm not looking to break the bank, but my wife has been dealing with some sciatica and I'm needing to upgrade our current mattress.
I prefer an adjustable.
What say you?

***Sunshine Pumper Alert***

While I am frustrated with WR recruiting (I think we are below market value), I think there is a lot to be optimistic about.

There is quality in the 26 class and there is a chance for much more coming. But I have to admit, I’m most excited about the 25 team’s potential and the potential impact on recruiting going forward.

The 25 team has one of the best defensive rosters in the country, one of the best QBs in the SEC, one of the best RBs in the SEC, a group of WRs with very good potential and past production at previous schools, and an experienced OL mixed with very talented youth. The schedule is tough but I think LSU is the only team that is clearly better than last year. Most of the opponents have big question marks and could be worse than last year. Last year’s team was a competent offense away from winning 9-10 games.
If the 25 team puts it together there is nothing that can’t be accomplished.

If OU makes a playoff run the impact on recruiting and fundraising will be great. That’s the hopium I’m shooting into my veins this Summer.

Recruiting Jayden Petit commits to Wisconsin

Login to view embedded media Very much a surprise from the OU side of things. The folks in the Switzer Center had been far more concerned about Mizzou than Wisconsin, and I was told from the Mizzou side that the Tigers likewise believed OU to be their primary competition.

Communications between Petit and the Oklahoma staff had given the Sooners the indication they led. And now, all of a sudden, he’s off the board to the Badgers. An unexpected development that definitely leaves OU very little room for error with Davian Groce and may prompt them to find a little extra budgetary wiggle room for Zach Turner.

It does help to make sense of the Sooners’ offer to Joel Wyatt, a 2026 WR with similar measurables to Petit, just a little more than an hour ago.

Offense is coming together . . .

I know we've all been stressed with how recruiting has been going especially on offense. But with Deacon Schmidt's commitment today, let's look at it.

QB: Bowe Bentley 4 🌟
RB: DeZephen Walker 4 🌟
WR: Daniel Odom 4 🌟
TE: Ryder Mix 4 🌟
OL: Deacon Schmidt 4 🌟
OL: Noah Best 4 🌟

All blue chippers, maybe we need to relax and trust the process?

Brandon and/or Parker on the state of recruiting

I’m wondering if you might have have a feel for this based on conversations with your sources…

There seem to be more than our usual number of misses on recruits in this class and the reasons that get put out there vary from player to player. What I’d like to know is if you have some clarity you may be able to provide regarding strategy, targeting, funding, etc…

Does the staff believe that the top-end talent in this recruiting class is really not that much better than the rest? That this years 5 stars aren’t the huge improvement (generally) over the higher-end 3 stars that you see in most draft classes.

Is the staff operating under the idear that, come July 1st, the clearinghouse will be reviewing these existing NIL deals and some of the “spenders” may not be able to make good on the deals they’ve offered some of these players they’re recruiting?

Are there players in this class that this staff does believe would be worth spending on to bring in, or would they really be satisfied with taking a mostly 3 star class (and yes, I understand they evaluate differently and stars change and all that)?

Just once i want an update that says....

Don't expect player X to commit to Oklahoma....
.and then a surprise "we got a commit we weren't expecting"
Instead of all the "OU is confident on this one" and then "in a surprise move player why chose SW School for the Blind Technical College....it was a NIL thing"

LOL

I need this for my sanity....the last week has been a big bag of saltpeter

Recruiting Bowe Bentley Film Breakdown (Sooners got a GOOD ONE)

One thing is certain after watching this tape—Ben Arbuckle knows EXACTLY what to look for in a quarterback.

Baseball Oklahoma Baseball Portal Thread

The Sooners land a good pitching talent from the transfer portal in LJ Mercurius from UNLV. He's a Las Vegas kid that is looking for meaningful playing time at a bigger school. He reaches lower to mid 90s with his fastball and has some impressive stats. With Skip Johnson's guidance, I believe he could be an impressive addition to the pitching staff. He has received an offer to play for Team USA (collegiate team) this summer.

NIL Questions for Parker

In discussions with my co-workers, there seem to be varying opinions regarding the impact of the recent antitrust settlement on NIL. As of today, is the upper boundary for a college football roster’s combined payroll effectively uncapped and only limited by the amount of money the collectives supporting the team have?
With the antitrust settlement, it sounds like the revenue sharing directly from the schools will be capped and NIL deals will be reviewed to make sure they are in line with fair market value (FMV) for a given player/position. What attributes will determine FMV? For example, is the quality of the player considered (e.g., a 5 star recruit vs a 3 star, starter vs depth player, all conference, etc)? Will the total amount of NIL that can be paid to the roster be only limited by the combined FMV of the players? Practically speaking, does this then mean that Ohio State’s roster is eligible for much more NIL than Ohio University’s roster?
