Gundy

According to BV statement that would be a yes. Imagine a comedian now days what he has to fear. Who is he going to offend with whatever joke he tells? This is just an example with the comedian but we all have to be concerned with what we say in public or at work these days. America has become a "woke" country and the company I work for is the "wokest" of all. Heck, you can't even use the word "Foriegner" without being threatened your job where I work at.

I believe after reading BV latest statement that if Gundy had stopped at the one time this would have been a non issue. Its the multiple times he read it that was what got him in this situation. What point was he trying to make to the team by reading it multiple times would be my question.

When you're teaching a lesson to someone and trying to make them realize how ridiculous a word is, you repeat it multiple times until they start realizing how ridiculous you sound saying it - then it clicks in their head about how ridiculous they sound when they say it. I've done this very thing with F-bombs out of my child's mouth. I've proceeded to say F'this and F'that and ain't this F'ing great as much as possible until he realized how stupid I was sounding. It's a powerful way to teach.

No comment on what happened as not enough facts, but what are we really losing here? If Cale was that great of a coach he'd be a coordinator by now. Instead he was the WR/Passing Game Coordinator, the latter of which was all Riley, and the young ballyhooed WRs Wease, Haselwood, and even Mims weren't exactly being developed into All Americans. Grouse all you want about PC culture, but in terms of X and Os, I'm finding it really hard to bemoan this loss. Bring in a guy who actually ran routes for a living to develop these kids.

You're out of touch. You're picking a small sample out of a broad body of work. He was RB coach for most of the past 20 years. Tell me how those RBs from OU have worked out. Get it together.

My lord dude. Sit this one out.

This is the latest I am hearing. The team met and made their points to the coaching staff. The only thing I heard from this is that the team is fully aware this incident could outlive them at OU. Meaning if not handle correctly it could be a cloud over the program for years to come. To resign, not resigned or withdraw the resignation was never on the table for Gundy. Venables needed no consultation. Gundy's options were to resign or be fired. Venables made clear he had no choice. Quick and resolute, end the matter in total or defend not taking the correct action. I heard that "most" of the team were not offended but that it is a bigger issue than "here and now".

I just heard similar news. The whole team was done if Gundy stayed. The season was over before it started if Venables didn't nip it in the bud.

We all teach in our own ways. I understand where and what you are saying because I have done that myself not only to my daughters but by grandkids also. However there is always a stopping point. One just has to know what that stopping point is. Your statement below basically says the players thought Gundy went overboard with it. Again you have to know what the stopping point is and he evidently exceeded that with the players.

I guess I would have to hear the context of what happened because if he’s just reading lyrics of a song as presented to him and that caused the team to crap their pants then I don’t know what to think. I have to think he read the lyrics in some derogatory, exaggerated way for the reaction to be what it appears to have been? Who the frick knows

To your point, there’s more to this than reported. The story has already changed a couple of times since first being released. It will continue to grow most likely. Nothing now will sweep it under the rug for Cale. Next big story will be where he lands.

Yeah if the whole freaking team was damn near done then either our players are overly sensitive and can’t realize what was taking place or what took place was worse than what’s being reported and for Venables to drop that hammer it had to have been the latter. I’d crap my pants if he winds up at USC.

Think old school pre cellphone third grade when the teacher caught you passing a note and would read it in front of the entire class to mock you...

Read BV's latest statement. He said without saying that Gundy took it much too far and caused a stir among the players in the room. Gundy took it much too far to make a point. There has been no official reference to song lyrics or any context of the "word" so that is a missing element. Let's not lose sight of the fact that Gundy took an issue that could have been handled one on one or in a more responsible manner. Gundy turned what could have been a very rewarding circumstance in how he handled the matter into a self inflicted career suicide by his actions. I personally think Venables did the right thing. The only thing that could possibly have happened to move the program forward.

USC would be a shocker. I just don’t see Cale moving his family to California at this time in his life. I have a guess but it’s probably too crazy so I will keep to myself for now.

BTW: I did not mean to indicate that the whole team was threatening to "walk". In fact, I did not hear any threats along those lines at all. What I was told was that the team elected to be more silent than vocal on Gundy's fate. It was discussed with a couple of key team leaders. Michael Turk is the only name I heard. Venables told administration of how he wanted to handle it and was granted permission. There are lines that simply should not be crossed when one is in this type of leadership position. I think one of the most delicate examples of this is coaching. Especially with kids that are university age. You don't get two strikes under these circumstances. That second strike will haunt the program and the staff for as long as the media wants to keep it alive.

OSU is a logical assumption but the wound is still open and fresh. This would stick to Mike as well as Cale in Stillwater. If Cale would even consider OSU. Best to drop back and away. How about Tennessee?

I’d be really surprised to see him go to OSU for the same reason you listed. I haven’t thought about Tennessee but then I haven’t considered any SEC school. I think he might look at another B12 school. But really his choices may be limited and he needs a job unless OU has given him a financial package.

You know he got a fat package to ride off after what he's done for OU my man! PC has taken over though apparently. Cale's got a nest egg no doubt about it. I think he should buy a boat and fish. 😉

I’m just saying this story isn’t finished. There may be more controversy coming. If so, it may cause problems for Brent and the program. Not a good time for something like this to occur.
Like all simple matters in this day and age brother. It never ends in this environment. Good luck! Oh, FJB!

Well there we have it. Turk's woke. Poor kid.
How is Turk woke? Did he impose on or offend someone that garnered this tag? Venables said he is a good kid that has become a leader in the locker room. I'm told he is well respected for his calm demeanor and his work ethic on the field. I believe he is very religious (something I am not!) if that holds any merit.

I think he is Grace Lyons fiance'.

You mentioned Turk's name in your post with team leaders? That's what I took from your post.

OK I guess I was unclear. I was told that Mike Turk was more or less selected to have a word with Venables today. As I understand, Venables' mind was made up, could not be changed.
Your serious opinion of this matter? Insider aside? Don't beat around the bush brother. 😁

Venables has been extremely vocal about the "changes" in Ou's culture, attitude and player investment. I think Venables places a very high price on the value on this team being good at everything they do on and off the field. No one player or coach is above this doctrine. As I understand, Venables was extremely pissed a Gundy. Mostly for hearing a watered down version from Gundy and then a hotter more charged version from some of the team in the room. Venables has not been unclear about his policies. There has not been one single incident since Venables took over. Not so much as a parking ticket, no Norman police issues, no class or study issues for any one person. I believe every man has been made fully aware of the consequences of certain actions that cross the line, his line. The first and only violation was Gundy. I would have done exactly the same under the circumstances. It is not hard to avoid using that language or the N word. If I understand the tone of his rant then Gundy committed career suicide with that language. No matter what happened last year, five years or 20 years ago, Gundy lost a part of everyone in that room if he lost it and went out of control, even without using the N word. This coaching. This is part father, part brother, part grandpa, part mentor, part hammer, part chisel and always wholly friend. How many of us can claim a coach as one of the most influential men in our lives? OU needs to cut him loose and move on rapidly. Venables seems to be of the same opinion.

Well there's that. Seems you wanted Gundy gone. But there's more my man, spill it. Fans deserve more.

I have nothing more. I did not want Gundy gone. I think Gundy stepped over that line that is "one way only". I think we will hear more but I honestly have nothing more than this for now. I think Venables is really upset and will be the last to get over this. He had to push Gundy to resign. He had no choice. Venables liked and relied on Gundy. I suspect Venables is truly hurt by this event.

BTW: I have felt the same as Gundy on more than one occasion. I have had to excuse myself from meetings to keep from committing murder. I learned early that if you lose control of yourself you have lost control of everything at that moment. It is not good to be the only mad person in the room. Get them one on one and fire their ass!!

Cale ain't that guy. You know it. Ridiculous bullshit.

Yeah, that's why I posted that and didn't retract my previous statements. I was sticking by innocent until proven guilty. Sure sounds like things are worse than first announced.

I'm saddened. But you won't catch me defending the guilty. I was just hoping for the best.

I’m not sure when this incident with Gundy happened but if anyone saw Venables Fall camp presser he looked like he hadn’t slept in 3 days and was as subdued as I’d seen him since back when he was coaching here after a big loss or something. I’m assuming he was dealing with it at the time of his presser?
