Frozen tundra Merica, dammit
Subject: FINALLY a clear picture on what we should be doing:
After watching the President, the CDC, the Governors, The Mayors, the Medical Experts, the Media, this is my understanding from the “experts” so far and came to the following conclusions:

1. Basically, you can't leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then go ahead.
2. Masks are useless, but please wear one, it could save you or someone else or maybe not. Also could be mandatory, maybe.
3. Stores are closed, except the ones that are open. You can buy the same stuff at some open stores that they have at closed stores and there are a lot more people inside them.
4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick. If you are sick stay home.
5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster or instant death.
6. Gloves won't help, but they can still help. If you touch anything then throw them away!
7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it's important to GO OUT.
8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes. Check Facebook for current inventory.
9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects.
10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…
11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms. Yeah.
12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it's better not to go out, well, but please support local restaurants.
13. It's better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don't go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old).
14. You can't go to retirement homes, but you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication.
15. If you are sick, you can't go out, but you can go to the pharmacy or pretty much anywhere.
16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn't wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours. Pizza too?
17. Every disturbing article or disturbing interview must start with " I don't want to trigger panic, but…"
18. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a uber and meet an older Uber driver.
19. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don't live under the same roof.
20. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance.
21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn't say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily.
22. The virus stays in the air - well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe.
23. We count the number of deaths but we don't know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were "almost dead" to find out if that's what they will die of
24. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications).
25. We should stay locked up until the virus disappears, but it will only disappear if we achieve collective immunity, so when it circulates… but we must no longer be locked up for that?
Got it?

Y'all stay safe; life Will kill you

I think it's too late. The damage is done. He is going to lose the election and he has no one to blame but himself. It's likely he takes the Senate down with him.
Maybe....but convince me that the opposition would be a better alternative.
Ignore Trump for a minute....Biden and Warren ? Really ?????

It's a lot more about the media lying about what he says, than what he said. I heard multiple of his opponents in media say that he suggested people inject disinfectant. That is a lie. I heard his statement when he made it. He looked at the medical people around him, and asked them about it.

When his opponents do evil, like say the lady who claims that he sexually molested her, when she worked for him, it was covered up over and over. Still is mostly stiffled. When they want to go after Trump, they make false accusations, then ask "When did you quit beating your wife," kinds of questions, hoping that they facts won't be heard.

It will be an interesting election.

All you have to do is peruse the various fact check sites to realize that there is a virtual daily occurrence when our president tells a "pants on fire" lie. He is a pathological preveracator. Whether he precisely said inject lysol or not, his comments were so outrageous that the company that makes lysol felt compelled to issue a warning. When has any U.S. president ever said anything that had to be admonished as a public health warning?

Has it ever occurred to you, Owen, that if there were not politicians like Hillary, there would not be politicians like Trump in the White House ? Trump got in because of Hillary's political odor. She deserved to be defeated in 2016.....by anyone.

Schooner how goes it in the Hotlanta or whatever else that Megopolis is known as ? Is your State open as normal now ? Our area made the news recently as testing finally discovered the virus in the Tyson pork plant 10 miles from where I live. Oh I heard a blip from Marietta but not enough to remember the gist .. ?

Reality and owen don't occupy the same thread.

Regardless of one's opinion of Hillary, why is it that Trump supporters always want to deflect criticism by pointing the finger at someone else...Hillary, Obama, etc? We are talking about the current president. You guys just need to face reality...you made an horrendous mistake when you voted and you are going to pay for it for at least a generation.

There seems to me to be a general dumbing down of our population and the politicians we keep electing reflect this while the media (including Fox) are complicit in selling these idiots to the masses, while demonizing the other side like never before.
And the out-of-control hatred and hostility has reached an extreme level while not one politician or news network has stepped up to discourage this divisive avalanche. (Howard Stern now wants all Trump supporters to take disinfectants and die).
It's now all about winning elections and not about serving the people in this country.
The men who have served as president and vice president as well as the men and women who have run for president since 2000 cannot be regarded as statesmen/stateswomen by any stretch of the imagination......and we have now a political system that no longer encourages or wants the best and brightest people to serve.

I am a Trump supporter, and I also blame Obama for the problems that we have had in the past. Obama and a lot of the Democrats want a huge Federal Government and with that states lose rights. Obama pushing through his affordable care act, tripled my premium for health insurance. I was paying $115 a month for a high deductible plan. As soon as Obama pushed through his mess of a health care package my health insurance went up to $450 a month and my deductible also went from $1,500 to $2,500. His plan might have helped the really poor, but it killed the middle class. Obama also made trade deals that lead to jobs in the United States being cut because it was cheaper to make these products in China and Mexico.

The democrats would love nothing more than to take a lot of liberties away. They have been trying for several years and in some cases have been successful with taking away our right to buy guns.

I'm afraid that one day these far left democrats like Bernie Sanders will finally get their way and lead us to full Socialism or Communism. They want the American people to rely heavily on the federal government rather than their state and local governments

I'm also sure that the Trump haters have really enjoyed their investments increasing the last 3 years. Until this Covid-19 mess our economy was rolling along and people were enjoying some of their best returns on investments in a long time. .

Lol!

Did you forget that Trump was the only viable alternative to Hillary? After 8 years of Obama's terrible leadership, quite a few of us didn't want him to have a third term via one of the most despicable people in politics.

As I mentioned previously, you and reality don't seem to coexist.

I think it's mostly because 85% of the media is horribly unfair to him in general. They are on the opposite end of the poltical spectrum from him, and their goal isn't to fairly provide information. Their goal is to cover up any faults of his political opponents, and make mountains out of molehills when it comes to information about him. CNN as we speak is doing all it can to cover up fair accusations that Biden sexually touched a staffer when he was a senator. It isn't just them, but all of the conventional liberal media, including the one who has been my primary email for two decades, and who owns this site.

Unfair, unproven accusations against Cavanaugh when he was a student, were later proven to be false. (denied by the accuser) But he wasn't from the political left. So they were fair game, and presented by the media as a big deal. Much more serious accusations by the presumed presidential candidate by a staffer of his, meaning from the same political bent, and more recent, are swept under the rug. The rules are the same, and we all know it. The general untrustworthiness of those making the "journalistic" accusations are why they are frequently denied, and rightly so. The media is out to get the president. And they don't care if they lie to make it happen.

Gary (iasooner) my friend I enjoyed our phone conversation yesterday. Again I am sorry about your nephew's death.

I just had one comment about your opening post in this thread (we did not discuss this yesterday).

My comment is if you were serious about this virus and the things we should do.
Just 2 months ago in February we had only 15 people with the virus and no deaths.. Today we have over a million who have had this disease and 58,000 Americans who have died of this disease and as of yet we have no drug to kill it. People like our great friend Medic, nurses and doctors are putting their lives at risk helping the sick with this contagious virus.

Yes I want the economy to dramatically improve and to get people back to work but I think it might be a little early as Americans are still getting sick with some dying.

We all are hoping for a cure and I am really hoping for some football this fall and a prosperous economy.

iasooner you told me yesterday how close that Tyson plant with virus victims was to your home..

Stay safe my friend.

To all here stay safe.

G-man, As you probably know, GA was one of the first states to partially reopen restaurants, barber shops, hair and nail salons, tattoo parlors and bowling alleys. So far, it's fairly slow-going from what I've seen on the news as the restrictions the businesses must meet in order to accommodate customers can be challenging. A few small businesses have reopened, but some restaurants are still doing to-go orders or curbside service and will hold out for a little while longer before allowing customers back inside. I'm thinking by mid-May just about all of the surviving businesses will be open and most citizens will no longer feel the need for social distancing.

I heard about the pork plant in Iowa that blew up with cases and was wondering if it was near you! Hope all is well and stay safe. Not much longer and we'll be out of the woods (pardon the pun) with this virus!

Yes there are always new ways to die; we’ve lived through Cancers, Polio, AIDS; some with antidotes/some not. (My County in Iowa has 530 cases-7 deaths as of today attributed to Covid19). It could be argued that if not for the work shut down my Nephew may still be alive or not. The good news is our testing for the Wu-flu, probably more so than any other Country very rapidly became prolific and accurate; it would take someone like Medic to address (for OK specifically).
As for the political component of that post: sorry, I only meant to send that short horse race spoof. “Toilet Paper no where in sight” was my horse ...
Anyway to quote another old movie, “We’re all gonna die: only a matter of when”.

As a registered Republican, I don't believe EVERY criticism of Trump is unfair or unfounded.
He's impulsive and paranoid and while I have liked what he's done prior to the pandemic, he really needs to focus on his job and the Coronavirus more.....and he needs to abide by his medical team....and stop concerning himself with the likes of Jim Acosta and others.
He's got a glass jaw mentality towards any criticism which no president should have and he gets visibly irritated to questions he deems "not nice". He comes across often as being childish....and he gives a lurking media who desperately wants him to fail plenty of ammunition.
This is not to say I don't sometimes like the way he stands up to the media, because the media of today is much more about spewing propaganda than it is reporting what's really going on. But Trump needs to dial it down a bit and avoid rolling in the mud with the pigs.
This pandemic has now become a divisive political football.
We need smart people to solve this crisis, not political hacks and hateful rhetoric going back and forth.
We are past the blame game and to keep playing it will keep our country away from fully recovering.

Life is a risk, I’ve been around some people lately that should probably wear a hazmat suit year round. I am one that is immune compromised but I still go to work and am blessed to be able to. I just try to be as smart as I can and go forth.
We will get through this albeit it will be different but what we need to do is throw every scientific agency at it and try to find a solution. Whatever that is. But God is in control and that is comforting to me that I can rest in that. Funny how a simple virus has brought the world to its knees. Man thinks he is in control but I think we all know better.
We are Oklahoma tough!!!

Yet there you are, using the “like” button.

Although taken out of context, as CT said above, I prefer to "avoid rolling in the mud with pigs." :p Just kidding, not meant as a personal attack on anyone or their politics. Hopefully football will be played in the fall and we can get back to talking about something we all agree with - our love of the Sooners!

That said, Trump needs to abide by his medical team 100% and not focus so much on November or the media hatred or his ego.

BS. It's time for him to actually open up America whhich is what he's doing. His medical team served him well and he listened to them intently and followed thier advice. But this country is on the verge of a collapsing shortage of food, supplies, not to mention the lack of kids eating daily. It's time for someone other than medical to set National Policy.

Fact checking sites are all slanted as well. You know this.

By far he's been the best President in my lifetime. Period. Second to no one. He runs circles around the media and the Democrats, works tirelessly for the people, sleeps a few hours daily, & gives his salary to charities. Keep reading his tweets. While you're doing that and then discussing them, he's moved on leaving you in the dust.

Before this country can be opened up, we must guarantee safety. Testing with quick results is necessary to do this.
If sports teams return too soon, the players could be taking away testing from people that really need it.
Some states and certain areas could open up soon, but the entire country can't open up full throttle.
We have to ease back into normalcy with caution. Not to do so is criminally stupid.

I think that's a pretty fair assessment. But the reality is that the 85-90% media, has been doing this for years. Trump is just the first guy whom they opposed, who called them out for it. And the opposition is becoming more and more obvious in their overall opposition. YouTube, Google and Facebook are very influential. And they are unabashedly joining the opposition to anything not on the left.

Two research doctors who did toe the left line, posted a Youtube video in the last ten days, that talked about issues that are being suppressed in the COVID discussion. Doctors are being not just encouraged, but in some cases forced, to label some deaths COVID, when it wasn't. And hospitals are calling for respirators as a not last resort, when going on a respirator can cause an end to a life. But hospitals get paid a lot more, when a respirator is used. Federal money gets added.

The latter was confirmed to me today, but a doctor's wife. But this info goes unreported. The two doctors mentioned in the previous paragraph, got a rapid YouTube following with their post which contained information such as this. YouTube pulled the video, because it contradicts the liberal line. At first, they gave no explanation. Then they claimed that since it contradicted WHO guidelines, it couldn't be allowed on the site? Really? They allow all kinds of unproven, or intentionally false information all the tiem, without censorship, so long as it aids their point of view.

It's worse on Facebook, but that's been know for a long while. It's their SOP.

The information sources in the country mostly cover up what's wrong on one side, and exaggerate what's false about the other side. When the fairness doctrine was called unnecessary because of the internet, the propaganda increased substantially.

I believe COVID is nasty and occasionally deadly. But it's not going away. I do believe that the numbers are being intentionally exaggerated, with political goals. And I also believe that contrary views are being suppressed by the most influential online information paradigms. And I thirdly believe that taking away the jobs of most Americans using exaggerations, isn't Constitutional. Ultimately, people are going to die from COVID. Saying that "Any death is unacceptable" is more about politics than science. And whenever we start allowing the economy to be restarted, is going to cause an upsurge in numbers.

I'm extra vulnerable. I'm old, had a heart attack almost two years ago, and am in a lightweight way, diabetic, well controlled by metformin. But we can't suppress the economy much longer, or there will be no economy left to revive. I'm willing to practice good spacing, wear a mask (hate it), and I've been legally allowed to work. And I'm not worried. If I get it, me and God will handle it. And if I don't, He already did. But that should be my choice, with fair info from both sides. Tyranny is supposed to be illegal under our constitution. That seems under attack. The biggest problem of all.

I’m in agreement with Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx. They may know more than you.
They might know more science. But that is all that they see. They really don't care of the economy gets destroyed. They are still getting paid. The American economy is not a test tube. A balance between the virus and the economy needs to be considered. Fauci and Birx really don't care. That's not sufficient. They might be good or decent advisors. But these are not decisions they should be making by themselves.

This return to the way it was cannot be done too quickly.
And where do you find Birx and Fauci (or anyone in the coronavirus response team) not caring about the economy or wanting to exclude the president and business leaders in the decision making ? That accusation is ridiculous. They want economic stability as much as anyone. They also want to save lives. They're looking to achieve both as quickly and as safely as possible. Doesn't everybody ? As you said, a "balance".

I'm not saying we ignore the threat. But this isn't going away. There will be no magic cure. It is likely that the best overall approach is for people to get the virus and build up antibodies in their own body. We get a new different flu shot every year. Viruses evolve. AIDS has changed many many times.

Going slow makes sense. But this economy won't survive if we wait until we have a vaccine. If you want to stay inside, do it. But don't expect me to follow your lead. The government with some considerable unevenness chooses that this business is worth the risk, but this business isn't, is ridiculous.

I've been lucky to be considered an essential service. But in Texas, which has a more reasonable approach than most states, they told we in Pest Control that we could work. We're essential. But dentists couldn't do much. Emergencies were allowed. But they were dictating what's an emergency, and what isn't. Somebody lost a crown, that was not considered an emergency. Sorry, that's nuts.

If people want to perform the service, with well informed, accurate stats, and somebody else feels like it's an emergency, and wants their dentist to do the work, then the government should butt out.

But the sacred cow of the political left, baby murder, isn't restricted at all. That kind of unevenness seems very hard to justify.
