How scoop mods can help with NIL

@Carey Murdock @Josh_M

Do you all have any flexibility for creating badges like gold member and silver member?

You could add a badge for “NIL Supporter” for people who send you receipts for donations.

Whether that’s a scoop collective or crimson and cream, I’m sure there are plenty of people on the board who would donate just to avoid the scoop shame

Would probably clean up NIL bedwetters as well

Sooner Survivor Series: Week 11

And on we go with our seventh year of the Sooner Survivor Series - the annual Big 12 Survivor Pool.

The rules are simple:

---(READ THIS ONE CAREFULLY, AGAIN) as there are only 10 Big 12 teams we always spend the end of the year filling out the regular season schedule. Well, to keep me from hating my life while filling out 500+ winners (until my BELOVED upset comes in) we’re going to do it in reverse. The first four weeks will be picking ONE winner from three hand picked games around college football. You don’t need to pick the winner of each, you simply pick the winner of ONE of the three games. If you’re right, you advance, if you’re wrong, your season ends early.

---Starting in week five, you’ll pick one Big 12 team each week that you think will win that week's game. If your team wins, you advance to the next week. When a team you picked loses, you are eliminated from the competition. Remember you ARE NOT picking against the spread, these are straight up win/lose scenarios.

---Once we've started the Big 12 segment and you've picked a Big 12 school, you cannot pick them again the rest of the season. This means you have to pick carefully and assess for things like bye weeks, matchups, etc.

---There are no byes for participants. In other words, you have to pick a team every single week. You have to watch later in the season to make sure you have a team to pick every week, because if you get into a situation where every team you have left is on a bye week and can't pick a team, you'll unfortunately be eliminated.

---Also, you MUST have your picks in before the first game on the docket (it will always be the first game listed below).

--- If anyone (or multiple people) can make it all the way through 14 weeks without losing, we'll use the bowl weeks as tie-breakers.

If anyone has any other questions, please feel free to write them below!

And now, here are the options for Week Three.

Culture of the Sooners

To understand the decline of the Sooners this season, you have to understand the mentality of the players. The toughness was on the decline especially from 2018 forward and you could say further back on the defensive side. By 2019, the Sooners were getting pushed around in the trenches. I had serious doubts as the season wore on if TBOW could be a NC coach. Last season saw the Sooners sneak by numerous weeks to eek out victories over teams they should have destroyed. I had no doubt then that he was not the coach for OU and was actually relieved when he stepped down.

The mindset left behind has been the biggest hurdle this season. I played on a team that had gone through back to back bad head coaches. The culture left behind was a "losing mentality." It's hard to truly understand unless you've been a member of that kind of team. Losing game after game that you could have and should have won. There were two common problems each game: 1) When adversity hit, players would quit; 2) When things were going well, players expected something bad to happen and inevitably it would. Older members on the Corner can probably think back to the Blake era and remember numerous examples of this. Think of the 2nd quarter on against TCU and the game against texas. That last wvu drive was a prime example of a defense expecting to fail. The end of the game against baylor saw a defense expecting to fail.

I think BV had the Sooners believing in themselves in the offseason and the early part of the season. Minimal busted assignments and good tackling. Against ksu, you could see the defense lose their confidence and expect bad things to happen. The whole team joined in against tcu and rock bottom was against the horns. What we've seen since is more busted assignments and a plethora of missed tackles. BV and Co have pulled them back but you still see players making mistakes that just shouldn't happen. Those are from expectations that something will go wrong. Bob Stoops and his staff did a great job creating a new culture and mentality in that '99 season. Unfortunately for BV, as things failed to turn around against the wildcats, the Sooners went back into the culture created by TBOW and most notably Mike Stoops. Yes, that still lingers. The big question is, how long will it take to get the Sooners to believe that no matter what happens during the game, they are going to win.

OT - FBS Football Governing Board

Thoughts?

Per Espinnn..

Leaders throughout college athletics are considering appointing a chief operating officer of college football who would report to a proposed FBS football governing board, according to a lengthy letter from the LEAD1 Association obtained by ESPN.

The letter was sent this week to every Division I athletic director, members of the NCAA's Division I Transformation Committee and the NCAA's board of directors.

The proposal has been circulated at the highest levels of college football, including the 10 FBS commissioners and College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock, sources said.

The detailed recommendations for the sport's future governance are the results of months of discussions, which began bubbling this past spring, when some of the most prominent voices in college athletics, including Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith, advocated for college football to separate from the NCAA entirely.

Any momentum for that shifted in September, when an overwhelming majority of Division I athletic directors at the annual LEAD1 meetings expressed a strong preference to keep FBS football under the NCAA if can be more streamlined and less bureaucratic.

Following the strong consensus in its fall meeting, LEAD1, which represents the 131 athletic directors in the FBS, established a working group comprised of representatives from all 10 FBS conferences.

According to the group's proposal, the FBS Football Governing Board would primarily be comprised of people with significant football knowledge, and appointed by their conference. There would also be a representative from the American Football Coaches Association, along with four independent directors, including at least two former student-athletes -- a combination of unbiased people and those who have a players' perspective, which the Knight Commission has separately been pushing for.

The FBS Football Governing Board would "decide all matters related to FBS football" except for rules related to academics, financial aid and health and safety. While the board would oversee things like officiating, rules and possibly scheduling, many agree there are issues that should remain at the level of university presidents, and the NCAA would remain a legal shield.

The liability issues are at the crux of why most athletic leaders want college football to remain under the NCAA. The NCAA currently has a Football Oversight Committee, but six of the 18 members represent the FCS, and many athletic directors lament they have different challenges that should be dealt with separately.

The COO would be a similar position to that of Dan Gavitt, who is the NCAA senior vice president of basketball. FBS football is currently the only collegiate sport that is governed by the NCAA but runs its own national championship through the CFP. The NCAA deals with issues such as rules, officiating, concussion litigation and enforcement, but doesn't have a Gavitt-type person at the table when significant decisions about the sport are made. This proposed position would also be on the NCAA president's leadership team/cabinet.

While LEAD1 doesn't have the authority to implement any of the recommendations, it's another step toward changing how the sport of college football is governed as the NCAA undergoes sweeping changes to its own organization, and more power shifts to the individual conferences. The proposal also pushes for NFL to provide financial support, arguing "the NFL reaps the benefits of FBS football serving as its farm system without providing any financial support (and other resources) to the NCAA."

It's likely to take weeks to gather feedback and the proposal would ultimately have to be approved by the Div. I Board of Directors. While there could be some pushback to the plan, there could also be some who want to wait until the NCAA names a president to replace Mark Emmert before making such drastic changes to the sport's structure. It's also unclear who needs to vote to officially approve it, as there are differing legal opinions, according to sources.

According to the letter, "Failing implementation of these recommendations, our FBS ADs are in favor of examining options for such decision-making outside of the NCAA."
