The Scourge of the Aggies

As are most of my posts, this one is long. If you don't do long, don't continue. I've been a long time member of multiple Aggie & UT message boards but it looks like my username anyway has been buried. Hope you enjoy.

Lame. Nobody gives a flying flip about a rollover-prone prairie wagon unless it is actually rolling over. Then everyone points and laughs.

People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

I like how they have to explain what the schooner is in the second half of the sooner sports website. Sounds like the first stop should be Norman, OK.

My wife and I returned to OK last year after 35-years in Katy, TX. The little things that you forget about living in OK are the most enjoyable now. In the Houston area during a typical month, you will maybe, maybe see one OU piece of clothing, car sticker, yard flag, etc. It would immediately lift your day & fire you up no matter who was sporting the logo. Now, I go about my daily business from our temporary digs in Edmond and Red & White literally engulfs you all day. I mean, looking for anything OU down there is like trying to find a blond in Herzliya. Here, the extremely rare contact with an Aggie or Horn does let me practice the finely honed insults that cause them the same pain as having a root canal through their ear does.

As I mentioned before I am also permanently banned now from posting at Orangebloods (after 19-years as a paying member) and can claim to have “hit for the cycle” as it pertains to the idiotic thin skin that wraps those 2- schools, their fans & their forums. If you find yourself in the presence of an Aggie, not an Aggy, bring this game up and if they are old enough to remember it they will go crazy, want to fight, their date will want to fight, or they/he/she will act like the don’t remember, etc. If they are in the “corp”se of cadets, they will squat and grab their man fries. If they have any trouble remembering, remind them that the clock did not stop in the 4th quarter and make sure you have a rapid egress from datum available.

4-Piece Nuggets: A late-night batch of updates on several recent visitors | Sooners make HUGE surge with 2025 DE target

Okay, so let’s start this update off with a MAJOR surprise — I’m talking completely out of left field — from the weekend’s festivities. First off, here’s what you have to understand about Kade Pietrzak: this kid is from North Dakota and has basically never tweeted anything except his film, his visits and his offers. There is no record of him doing an interview of any kind with anyone, ever. Moreover, it obviously takes a hike and a half to get to North Dakota if anybody wanted to visit with the kid in person. Pietrzak is easily the most inaccessible kid I’ve ever come across, and keep in min that I dealt with Grant Brix for over a year. It’s impossible to get information on his recruitment straight from the horse’s mouth, so I’ve had to get everything secondhand. That said, I’ve done so, and get this…

Multiple sources informed me that Pietrzak tried to commit to Oklahoma this past weekend.

Note that I say “tried.” It didn’t happen, and that’s why I don’t mind disclosing something that obviously would remain under wraps if it had come to fruition. Basically what happened is that the Sooners did a bang-up job with Pietrzak on the visit, he loved everything he saw, and he decided to turn in his poker chip (which, needless to say, shocked everybody in the Switzer Center). But Pietrzak didn’t understand that the Sooners have a no-visit mandate for commits. So when he was made aware of the policy, I'm told he and his dad became reticent, as they have future visits scheduled. They and the Sooner staff ultimately came to the agreement that it was in everyone’s best interest to slow things down for the time being. He will take other visits and Oklahoma will continue to recruit other prospects at his position. But this is suddenly a name that everybody ought to add to their shortlist of potential defensive line class candidates. He is a defensive end for Oklahoma, just to preemptively answer the inevitable question. And his film is well worth a watch. The kid is a hell of a football player with top-shelf instinct, elite movement skills and a killer’s mentality. Now, that said, don’t ask me any questions about what other schools are strong considerations for him, or what his timeline might be. I do not have a clue, nor does anyone. This entire recruitment is effectively closed off to the outside world. From conversations with sources on the OU side, I do know that he has not yet cemented an official visit to Oklahoma.

Spoke to Cobey Sellers earlier tonight. He’s effectively down to three schools. It’ll be Oklahoma, Texas or Texas A&M for the four-star cornerback from the Houston area. I still feel very strongly that the Sooners will be the choice in the end, and that confidence is bolstered by the presence of Sellers’ rock-solid relationships with several current members of the Oklahoma secondary. He and Woodi Washington are particularly close, and have been for a while. Sellers acknowledged to me that he’s been up to Norman enough times that there isn’t really anything new for him to experience; his visits at this point are more geared toward deepening those relationships with the players. He’s also built strong bonds with several of the Sooners’ commits and targets, most notably one Maliek Hawkins. Oklahoma will get the last official visit with Sellers, and I halfway wonder if this recruitment even lasts until OV season. There’s some distance between OU and the other two finalists, and it doesn’t help Texas’ case that they just dropped his teammate and close friend Anthony Williams from their 2025 class.

Caught up with Antoni Ogumoro as well, and he informed me that the Sooners are working to make his spring-game visit an official visit. In my time covering Oklahoma recruiting, I can’t recall an OV that fell earlier on the calendar than what would be this April 19-21 window for Ogumoro. Besides the ChampU BBQ, the Sooners don’t plan to host official visitors on any other weekend besides June 14-16, when they have a scant few showing up to town. However, given that Ogumoro is going to be back home on the island of Saipan for the entire month of June, there naturally needs to be a special accommodation made in his case. Oklahoma has been willing to do so, and they’ve impressed Ogumoro with how well they’ve catered to him and his family thus far.

His younger brother Troy has autism, and Ogumoro has mentioned in the past that he’d like to land at a school that is receptive to his brother. The Sooner staff has gone above and beyond to make the three-star OL and his family feel comfortable in Norman, and Ogumoro himself told me that he already knows pretty much everyone in the Switzer Center. There’s a feeling of comfort at Oklahoma that just doesn’t exist anywhere else for him right now. He’ll also OV with Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Tennessee, Missouri and UNC before his decision. I’d wager that he’ll take all those visits, as his May 21 commitment date is unlikely to change (it is his grandfather’s birthday, so there is significance there). But it’s Oklahoma and everybody else right now.

Before I get to my own notes on Merritt, here’s a few quotes from my conversation with him. First, on his father’s influence in the recruiting process (his dad is Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach David Merritt):

“My dad’s big on kind of falling in love with the school and not falling in love with a particular coach. So he kind of looks for everything but that. He was looking at the campus to see if he thinks it would fit me. He was looking at the weight room, the strength staff, the training staff — I mean, he looks at a lot of different things that doesn’t have anything to do with the (on-field) coaches.”

On what he thinks of the Oklahoma defensive staff, especially after watching a scrimmage:

“I feel like Coach Alley has been such a great addition. What me and my mom always joke about is that he’s pretty much just a mini-Coach Venables. They’re the same exact person. And it’s really cool getting to watch those guys in action.”

On what he’ll be looking for as he tries to decide on a school during OV season:

“I mean, honestly, that’s hard to say. That’s something I’ve definitely got to think about more. But I mean, I’m gonna go and just really enjoy each weekend and just kind of see which strengths and weaknesses I can find, and kind of pick out the pros and cons between each staff. Just feeling like I’m at home — that’s something I’m big on, for sure.”

In full transparency, I’m close to a FutureCast here. My Evil Kermit side wants to just plug the prediction and live with the outcome. But I do think entering one right now would be premature, because Merritt is very high on Alabama as well. While still at Washington, Kalen DeBoer and his staff gave him what he considers his first “big offer,” and he’s a huge believer in what DeBoer and his staff can accomplish at Alabama. I do not think Nebraska or Missouri can outpace OU in this race. I do think there is a path for Alabama to edge Oklahoma out, though, so I want to see what happens on his Bama official in a couple of weeks. It reminds me a little bit of the Casey Poe recruitment — the kid feels completely at home in Norman and has a ton of respect for the OU staff, but there’s a certain mystique about Alabama that keeps him enthralled. So let’s revisit Merritt’s recruitment in early May and see where things stand.

OU baseball bounces back after weekend struggles, beats UT Arlington

After dropping the Bedlam series over the weekend, OU looked to bounce back on Tuesday night against UT Arlington. This matchup marked a homecoming for UT Arlington coach Clay Van Hook, who was a former assistant coach at OU, and pitcher Aaron Calhoun, who was a former OU pitcher.

With the hope of bouncing back from pitching miscues over the weekend, the Sooners went with Carson Atwood on the mound to face off against the Mavericks. This would mark Atwood's first start of the season, as he entered the game with an ERA of 4.02.

Atwood made the most of the start, as he sat the first three UT Arlington batters down 1-2-3. The Oklahoma offense wasted no time in this one, with Anthony Mackenzie putting the first run of the day on the board after a fielding error. With more runners on base, Kendall Pettis would hit a sacrifice fly to send Bryce Madron home. In a very odd start, OU led 2-0 with zero hits on the night. Freshman standout Jaxon Willits shot a single into center field which allowed two more runners to reach home, and Oklahoma quickly led 4-0 after one.

Despite the success from Atwood to start the game, his day was done after a single frame. OU would end up rotating between 11 pitchers in this one, with the staff likely trying to save the bullpen for the series against Kansas State this weekend.

Next onto the mound for the Sooners was Will Carsten, who quickly turned in an impressive 1-2-3 inning as well. The Oklahoma bats did not have the same success in the second, with UT Arlington's defense shutting OU down. The Sooners led 4-0 after two.

Carsten enjoyed another great inning in the third, and sat down three batters without issue. As they normally do, the Oklahoma bats quickly got hot. It was started with a Jackson Nicklaus single, and he stole second base. Thanks to a bunt by Jaxon Willits, Nicklaus made his way around the bases and extended OU's lead to 5-0. With two outs in the frame, the offense exploded. Both Anthony Mackenzie and Bryce Madron would pick up RBI singles, which was quickly followed by Easton Carmichael hitting a two-run RBI double. Oklahoma would finish the inning leading 9-0.

Malachi Witherspoon would be the next pitcher to see the mound for OU. Despite giving up two runs, he would eventually dial it in and retire the side in the fourth. Although the bats were electric to end the third, the momentum did not continue. The Sooners went down in order, but OU led 9-2 after four.

As stated previously, Skip Johnson and company rotated between 11 pitchers in this one. Both Dylan Crooks and Ryan Lambert saw the mound in the fifth, where the Oklahoma defense forced another scoreless inning. Unfortunately for OU, the cold bats showed back up in the fifth. Despite Mackenzie and Madron getting on base, OU was unable to put any runners across the plate. The Sooners led 9-2 headed into the sixth.

Similar to the fifth, the sixth inning was a quick one as Lambert stayed on the mound and made quick work of the Mavericks lineup. Oklahoma would be retired in order and maintain their 9-2 lead.

With opportunities running out, UT Arlington would claw back in the top of the seventh, cutting the OU lead to 9-4. After three innings of silence, the OU bats got on track again in the seventh. Anthony Mackenzie came up clutch, launching a two-out RBI triple off the wall and eventually making his way to home plate after a wild pitch. OU led 11-4 after seven.

Neither team was able to find success at bat in the eighth, but the Mavericks made a big push in the ninth. Thanks to a series of walks and a grand slam, Oklahoma fans were quickly silenced as UT Arlington cut the lead down to 11-9. With their tying run on, OU would bring out their 11th and final pitcher, Brendan Girton, who would close the game out and help OU survive a scare.

Next up for Oklahoma is a clash against Kansas State on Friday night in Norman.

How Jackson Arnold is learning from the Alamo Bowl, embracing starting role

"I love DG to death. That’s my guy. But it sucks being a backup. It really does... "This year, kind of settling into this new leadership role and kind of getting closer to my teammates and just learning to lead this team. It’s been really different, but it’s been really good so far."

4-Piece Nuggets: Heisman Hangout tidbits and more clarity at TE

— First off, I’m told Oklahoma made another really strong impression with four-star CB Courtland Guillory today, and there should be another in-depth update coming from our national recruiting analyst Marshall Levenson. But for the moment, just be advised that I would enter a FutureCast for Guillory were it not for the Trystan Haynes factor. That’s the only thing that is holding me back here. With Maliek Hawkins set to commit Wednesday and all signs pointing toward Oklahoma there, the Sooners only have two cornerback spots in this class. They’ll have to be scrupulous the rest of the way.

I still fully expect Cobey Sellers in the class, and he’s high enough on the board that the Sooners would probably hold off other targets to give Sellers some runway to decide. With that in mind, I can’t bank on Guillory in the class — at least not this early — because of the logistical hurdle that could arise if they were to take an early pledge from Guillory and then Haynes wanted in before Sellers’ decision. Nevertheless, the Sooners are in a very good position with Guillory, and I think it’s worth noting that Texas had a huge recruiting weekend as well. The trip to Austin would have been a much shorter one for Guillory. Yet he was in Norman.

— I’ll have more on Antoni Ogumoro in the days ahead. But for now, be aware that he will circle back to Norman for the spring game on April 20th, and his OU official visit will obviously take place prior to his May 21 commitment. That would put him on campus four times in the span of two months immediately prior to his decision. Sources I spoke with emphasized that Ogumoro and his family had an excellent experience today, and I feel pretty solid about my FutureCast to Oklahoma right now.

— The Sooners and Linkon Cure are fading, as much of a disappointment as that will be to many. Kansas State remains in the driver’s seat, Cure is still flirting with Oregon, and Collin Klein has helped Texas A&M secure a foothold in this race. If Oklahoma can get him back to campus at all, let alone for an official visit, it would be a surprise to me (a pleasant surprise, but a surprise nonetheless). The Sooners felt they were trending in the right direction with the four-star Goodland (Kan.) tight end throughout the month of February, but things have just kind of fizzled.

— Meanwhile, DaSaahn Brame still doesn’t have any official visits scheduled beyond Ole Miss (April 12-14) and Oregon (June 21-23), which isn’t the greatest optic as far as Oklahoma is concerned. Rest assured, though — he will OV with the Sooners. Brent Venables and company will have their shot at the blue-chip tight end from suburban Wichita. It’s just a matter of getting that date on the calendar. But undeniably, the fact that Oregon will have Brame on campus the weekend of the ChampU BBQ is cause for pessimism. If it’s any consolation, the Sooners are in a very good spot with Dakotah Terrell, and I still feel as though they could have Chase Loftin if they wanted him. But going 1-for-2 with Brame and Nate Roberts feels like a legitimate necessity.

Much more to come tomorrow as we continue to collect visitor reactions from the Heisman Hangout. Many of the visitors are still in Norman, so expect more info in the afternoon or evening.

Away games (football)

Thursday scrimmage notes (Thurs 7:25 pm)

*** Pulled over driving back from Tulsa to type up. So this is what I have heard from a few sources today on the scrimmage:

***Was told that the defense once again looked good. They started the scrimmage with two straight 3-and-outs.

*** That’s not to say that the offense didn’t play well, because we were also told that TE Bauer Sharp made a huge and very athletic play, with a source stating, “Sharp hurdled a dude at the 10-yard line and scored a TD!”

*** WR Deion Burks and WR Jayden Gibson BOTH “made some acrobatic catches.”

*** “DL played well again. They got some penetration and caused some issues. Jayden Jackson made a really nice TFL. Great play.”

*** A name that seams to be coming up more and more is DT Davon Sears. A source told us that Sears “put in some really good work today in the scrimmage.”

*** Erik McCarty and Eli Bowen with INT’s today, with McCarty's pick coming on a deflected pass from Hawkins.

*** “QB1 (Jackson Arnold) and Mike Hawkins look really good when they have time. Hawkins continues to impress. Arnold dropped dropped a toe-tapping dime to [Deion] Burks on one of his passes.”

*** Emeka Megwa had a 50-yard run for a TD.

*** In a situational spot, CB Kani Walker had a big 3rd and long PBU.

***General Booty led a big offensive drive for a TD as well.

*** Dasan McCullough, Kip Lewis and Lewis Carter “balled out today on defense.” All three made some nice plays and tackles, we are told.

*** Again, another source said “OL up and down. Gotta get more consistent. Can tell they are trying to mesh and there’s lots of newness.”

*** An issue that was shocking to hear, but was told this the other day as well, was that snaps have been part of the issues since [Troy] Everett went out. There is a lot of confidence it will get more and more ironed out, but that’s something to monitor.

*** Kicker Tyler Keltner hit a big 58-yard FG, we are told. So that is good news, right?🤷🏻‍♂️

*** When they went to red zone, I’m told offense won that battle. BUT, was told in short yardage the DL was ‘stout.’

DrummBeat: What's next for the Sooners at safety recruiting in 2025? | OU's standing with four-star Omarion Robinson and five-star Jonah Williams?

*** With the Sooners landing 2025 four-star safety Marcus Wimberly, there are some questions that Sooners fans have about what's next. Will OU be able to land five-star Jonah Williams? Or will the Sooners land four-star Omarion Robinson?

*** Let's dive into the Wimberly commitment first.

The four-star DB was offered several months ago after Sooners' safety coach Brandon Hall made a trip to Bauxite (AR) to see Wimberly in person. Coach Hall was impressed with Wimberly's size and physicality from the jump. So much that Wimberly was quickly invited to visit OU after the offer.

*** Even with the visit invite, there were somethings that had been holding back his commitment to Oklahoma. One, was the fact the staff wanted to see him move in person. That would mean that OU would have to wait to see him in spring football to do that. However, Wimberly went to the Under Armour Camp in DFW and blew everyone at that camp away when he measured close to 6-2 and over 200lbs, with him also running a blazing 4.4 in the forty-yard dash.

*** After that camp, there were several programs that started to push for Wimberly. The good news for OU is that Coach Hall stayed true to the fact he wanted the fast-rising safety. That sentiment quickly became the general consensus within The Switzer Center as more and more started to come out about Wimberly on and off the field.

*** The Sooners' new commitment fits OU. He is a very hard worker and is well-versed in several musical instruments. Wimberly also plays in his church band. Some may see that as him not having that 'dawg' in him, but when you watch the film of Wimberly you see a very aggressive and physical safety that could play the SAM backer, Cheetah, nickel or safety spots with his size, speed, and ability to stop the ball carrier in their tracks. The very fact OU recruited him so hard was because they feel he has that 'dawg' in him.

*** So again, this was big for OU for a variety of reasons.

Secondly, Wimberly and Omarion Robinson have become friends. As it became more and more clear that Wimberly was leaning heavily towards OU, I have been told that the Sooners new commitment started to push and build a relationship with the Rivals150 safety (Omarion Robinson) out of the Natural State.

*** As for where things stand with Robinson, he is supposed to be back in Norman for the Sooners' spring game on April 20th. He will have his parents and family with him (again), and there is some confidence in Norman that the Sooners lead for the four-star safety. That doesn't mean it's a done deal. Far from it, with Oregon and UGA being big challengers.

We (Rivals) even have him listed as an unofficial visitor for the Ducks on June 21. So why is that significant? Well, that is the same time as the Sooners' ChampU BBQ event that is very important for their top kids to be at. Coincidentally, I am told that Oklahoma is working vigorously to make sure Robinson visits Oklahoma officially that weekend instead. Newly committed safety Marcus Wimberly is the leader of that charge within the committed guys recruiting him. And with Robinson visiting for the spring game, I would imagine him returning for the ChampU BBQ being a topic of discussion with OU staff while he is on campus and in person.

Even with the official visit date remaining unset at this time, most people I talk with say that OU is the team to beat for Omarion Robinson right now. Even so, OU has their work cut out for them. I would even argue that Oregon and Georgia are going to be a problem, but if the Sooners can hold serve and be competitive in the NIL part of this recruitment, come decision time, I continue to feel good about where OU stands. Now, the official visits will be big in June as well, but if the Sooners can get him on campus for the ChampU BBQ, I think that would be a significant step in the right direction as far as the Sooners and Brandon Hall holding serve with Robinson and potentially making it much harder for the Rivals150 target to say no to Oklahoma.

*** One last thing on Robinson... There are a lot of people that I speak with that feel he may be the best safety in the nation. Those people around this region, and the nation, say that with confidence and conviction, so if the Sooners were to land him, it would be a big deal.

Just a little extra on what Robinson brings.

*** That brings us to five-star safety Jonah Williams.

At the time of this write up, I can tell you that Williams is still communicating with OU but I am also told that he is hard to reach for every program recruiting him at this time. As we said weeks ago, the public picks to Oklahoma were something of a trigger point for the five-star, and since then, it's been very difficult to get him to say one program is head and shoulders above the rest. Though two weeks ago he did say that OU was a major player for his still and that they were important in his recruitment.

So, where does that put Oklahoma in terms of an official visit down the line? It's a question that is still left unanswered at this time, but the OU staff is working on setting one up. At the time of this write up, the five-star is visiting Oregon when OU holds their ChampU BBQ. That's not ideal for Oklahoma, but Williams has been all over the place since February and OU will surely try to get him on campus for the 7th or 14th of June, if not rearrange it for the 21st. Something we are watching closely.

The other question is if OU still leads? Well, again, I don't know that to 100% be the case, and I think Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Oregon have made some moves. What I will say is that the OU baseball program is a very, very big part of this recruitment and when you have them, Brandon Hall and Todd Bates working on the five-star safety, you tend to like the Sooners' odds to at least be there until the end, and even lead still to this day.

I am not saying that OU is far and away the leader. I think there are some that feel the gap OU once held in the lead is shrinking and shrinking quickly. That said, the biggest question is going be numbers and room left if Williams waits. Obviously, he would be a take all day and twice on Sunday, but at what cost and what position are taking numbers from? Especially, if you already have Wimberly and Robinson on board.

OU does have some leeway regarding their safety recruiting. The one thing you can use here is the fact Wimberly could grow into a SAM backer down the line (all depends on body development, but he is a safety until otherwise said) and Jonah Williams can play a variety of positions with his size and range. That type of versatility within the Sooners' defense and their targets allows OU to pursue some pretty talented safeties and have some leeway regarding the number of takes they can have in 2025. Even with a talented and young safety room already.

*** That is what we know at this time with 2025 safety recruiting. We also have Marcus Wimberly on the podcast releasing the next day or so. Make sure you watch that interview with Parker and I. Wimberly is really going to impress you all with his maturity and how he looks at life and football. Well beyond his years.

*** ALSO... Stay tuned for more updates on the Heisman Hangout and what visitors told us and much more!!!

Dakotah Terrell (UM offer)

Respectfully, what is it gonna take for this kid to get an offer? I know he has plans to come watch a few practices but UM obviously didn’t need any further evals to make an offer (I get that it might not be committable but still). I will also venture out to make a bold statement and this is JMO, I do not see a big difference in potential/ability between him and the other 3 TE targets, specifically, Cure and Brahme, other than them being more polished at this stage in their young careers. I say this with all due respect, hope you all are enjoying a great Friday.

Quick OV updates for a pair of top defensive targets (Mon 5:00pm)

Full updates coming on both of these guys, but in the meantime, add Dawson Merritt and Christian Evans to the Sooners' ChampU BBQ official visit list. Spoke to both players today, and they both locked in OV's before leaving campus over the weekend.

Merritt is unofficially down to four schools, and has OV's booked to all four: Alabama (April 19-21), Missouri (June 7-9), Nebraska (June 14-16) and Oklahoma (June 21-23). Feeling good about the Sooners' chances here, especially since they get the last official.

Meanwhile, were it not for a crowded picture as far as the Sooners' interior DL group is concerned, I'd probably plug a FutureCast to OU for Evans. He had a fantastic visit, and the Sooners are devoid of elite competition for his services. This is a battle they can (and will) win, provided they want to. I just can't bank on Evans being a surefire take, at least not right now, given that the Sooners also lead for Floyd Boucard and Kole Briehler. There is much to be decided as to who will wind up in the interior DL class alongside Ka'Mori Moore and Trent Wilson... and before anyone asks the question, no, there is no reason to believe that Moore's commitment status is in jeopardy. He'll be back for the spring game and has remained completely locked in with Oklahoma.

— Touched base briefly with both Cobey Sellers and Seaonta Stewart, who each told me they’re thoroughly enjoying their OU experience thus far. When I hit up the two cornerbacks earlier this afternoon, they were both still on campus. Stewart flies back to Ohio tomorrow and Sellers will hit the road back to Houston tonight, so expect a more intricate update tomorrow or Tuesday on the pair of elite defensive back prospects. With everything pointing toward Oklahoma in advance of Maliek Hawkins’ announcement, that theoretically leaves just two open spots in the class for cornerbacks, and Sellers and Stewart are two guys that the Sooners would love to have if Trystan Haynes keeps playing hard to get. Sources down in the Lone Star State unanimously favor OU for Sellers; not much has changed there. It’ll be interesting to see what type of move Oklahoma can make in Stewart’s recruitment, as he’s very high on OU’s wish list but doesn’t have an offer sheet that’s rife with heavy hitters. The Sooners aren’t facing the stiffest of competition for his pledge.

— How’s this for a late addition to the visitor list? Emmett Jones and OU managed to coax Manny Choice back to Norman this weekend, and I’m told the visit went exceptionally well once again. Working on getting insight straight from the horse’s mouth, so stay tuned for that. I still can’t fire a FutureCast in good conscience with the Missouri and USC visits on deck for Choice, but everything indicates that Oklahoma is on top for the time being. If I had to peg the two wideouts with the best chances of winding up in Oklahoma’s class right this second, I’d go with Choice and Quincy Porter (shhhhhh). Add those two to the Elijah Thomas and Gracen Harris law firm, and Emmett Jones can pencil himself in for another raise this winter.

— We’re starting to get some clarity on what kind of linebacker Zac Alley likes, and though the Sooners haven’t extended an offer to 2026 three-star prospect Jaxon Pyatt, they have ramped up contact with him in recent weeks and got him on campus yesterday. I spoke earlier this afternoon with Pyatt, who told me that Alley has made him feel like a priority and that everything at Oklahoma seemed to line up with his desires in a school. He acknowledged that the two schools atop his list right now are Ole Miss and Oklahoma. Don’t be shocked to see this offer go out down the line, and I expect the Sooners to be a major player for Pyatt from that point forward. He’s the son of former NFL’er Brad Pyatt, and as I pointed out last week, the Sooners have fared very well with NFL legacy prospects on the recruiting trail. Pyatt confirmed to me that he’ll be back to Oklahoma for a camp in early June, which will give Venables and Alley the chance to put the firsthand stamp on him.

— Another linebacker that I can confirm Oklahoma likes a lot is Rogers (Ark.) standout Braxton Lindsey, who owns just one FBS offer right now but is poised for a blow-up sometime this calendar year. He’s a 6-foot-3, 215-pound multi-sport prospect who actually caught Brent Venables’ eye even before he caught Zac Alley’s. The Sooners hosted Lindsey this weekend, and in speaking to the Natural State product, he was very complimentary of everything that Oklahoma football comprises. He’s thoroughly impressed with OU’s program culture, facilities, off-field support and team dynamic, and he’s made an instant connection with Alley. Like Pyatt, he has yet to receive an offer, but camp season could help break the dam in that regard. This is absolutely a name with which to get familiar in the 2026 class, because I think the Sooners will be very tough to beat if/when they offer Lindsey.

Much more to come from the Heisman Hangout.
