What are you guys hoping to see today? What players will you be watching most?

Just a random Sunday post

Something i dont think is brought up enough about OU's defense since Brent got here, is the amount of missed tackles there are are, or lack of missed tackles.

I remember watching games with the previous regime and just hoping that we would bring the player down 2 yards from the initial point of contact. Now that Brent has got here, i hardly ever see an egregiously missed tackle.

Something i really enjoyed about yesterday was seeing the freshman safeties get in there and lay some wood (although you could go without headhunting your only TE) with confidence and technique. Once Bates and Chavis get their rooms up to speed, i believe that we will get back to the defenses we were feared for in the early 2000's.

4-Piece Nuggets: Several post-spring game recruiting updates

— After touching base with several sources, I’ve fired in a FutureCast in favor of the Sooners for Courtland Guillory. I’ve mentioned in recent weeks that I was getting closer to making the pick, and I’m now ready to do so after he attended the spring game yesterday. It’s a Red River battle for the four-star cornerback, but Oklahoma maintains the edge and I think it speaks volumes that he was in Norman — not Austin — yesterday. And that’s not the first time I’ve written those words. The Sooners and Longhorns have had multiple recruiting events on a coinciding date this spring, and on each of those occasions, Guillory has been in Norman. So I’ll call the shot.

— Two Houston-area targets that didn’t make it in are Max Granville and Jermaine Bishop. Granville was at Texas A&M yesterday, and though I’ve always been skeptical that Granville winds up a Sooner in the end, the late change of plans in this case diminishes the optimism even further. Penn State is also heavily involved with Granville, and I’m told the Nittany Lions’ recent success in developing edge rushers has caught Granville’s attention. The Sooners definitely had the early juice in this recruitment, but I would no longer call them the leader heading into OV season. On the other hand, I’m told Bishop’s absence was unavoidable and related to car issues. He is very much an Oklahoma lean at the moment.

— More coming on Cortez Mills, but I’m told he will now OV to Oklahoma on June 14-16 rather than taking a previously scheduled official visit to Nebraska on that weekend. I still think Miami is going to be tough to overcome, but if anybody can do it, Emmett Jones is that guy. Definitely becoming a situation to watch here. And he’s not the only wide receiver with whom the Sooners have put themselves in outstanding position.

— I am this close to dropping a FutureCast in favor of the Sooners for Andrew Marsh. The only thing that’s holding me back is some of the background knowledge that I have of this recruitment, and just a general skepticism that any trend in the process is capable of holding. But there is a LOT of confidence in the Switzer Center that OU is the frontrunner at this point, and the Sooners have the all-important Mom Factor in their favor right now. The visit yesterday went very, very well.

PJ Spring Game Performance

Thought PJ looked really good today. Major standout. He was a constant presence in the backfield and had multiple sacks (yes I know QBs are non contact but still).

It’s exciting to see him develop moves to go along with his intangibles. He’s noticeably put on some weight and still has room for so much more.

While our OTs are less than stellar, seeing his production today is an amazing sign for what’s to come.

Who do y’all think stood out?

A matured, more physical Kalib Hicks hopes to burst onto the scene in 2024

Can Kalib Hicks, who's been impressive this spring, break into the rotation at running back this fall?

DrummBeat: Good news coming (UPDATE)

UPDATE:

So between now and this time tomorrow the cat should be out of the bag, so to speak. Expect the commit will announce the exact time so we are leaving it them for that — it is their moment.

But now you have a better idea of when to expect it to be public.

If that changes, I will update you all.

******

Okay, so this one a bit further down the line and it’s one I would label under the “big-time” get category because this player WILL BE in the 5-star range when their class gets those types of rankings and monikers labeled on them.

On the time frame, I am hearing said player is “just waiting on an edit.” Sometimes those take forever and sometimes they are done very quickly. But that’s what we know and wanted you all updated.

Lastly, I am not gonna scare the kid off by a late future cast and neither is PT, from my understanding.

More to come when we get it, but we are getting the story ready for when the commit drops.

$25 Million NIL Pledge by FEDEX to Univ of Memphis

FedEx Announces Transformational NIL Program for University of Memphis Student-Athletes

FedEx Corp. has announced an NIL (name, image and likeness) commitment of $5 million per year for the next five years to benefit our University of Memphis student-athletes. This program presents meaningful opportunities for our student-athletes to promote key FedEx initiatives.

“FedEx has established itself as a leader in NIL with this innovative commitment to our student-athletes," said UofM President Bill Hardgrave. "The University is immensely grateful for this investment, which further strengthens the valued relationship between FedEx, the UofM and our community."

Behind the vision of FedEx with support from national industry experts Altius Sports Partners, the program will initially center around football, men’s and women’s basketball and additional women’s sports. Student-athletes will be provided the opportunity to capitalize on their name, image and likeness through opportunities that will include social media programs, in-person events, FedEx Cares initiatives and more as FedEx continues its longstanding commitment to investing in its hometown and our future leaders.

FedEx will host its first in-person NIL initiative with a tailgate experience at the Tigers' Spring Football Game on Saturday, April 20.
