Recruiting DrummBeat: 2026 four-star safety note

In Rivals meetings the last day and a half, but have been getting some phone calls from sources and wanted to pass along some news I’m hearing. Also, I have notes that I’m 3/4 done with and working to get out today to you on a bunch of big-name 2025 and 2026 targets. They are the ones I have promised. Smite me on that because I deserve it. I sincerely apologize for the delay.

That said, I’m hearing strong buzz that 2026 four-star safety Markel Ford is leaning heavily towards A&M and that a commitment or announcement is potentially coming soon (could be this week, but nothing confirmed).

Now, that being the case, I’d also not get too up and arms over that with him also telling OU that he will still visit the Sooners on July 25th for the Sooners Under the Stars. OU has been big in his recruitment so far, so that is a bit intriguing.

As for why A&M this early? Source told OUinsider that Ford “loves that staff and his mom fell in love with A&M.”

Again, this one is far from a done deal. 2026 NSD is 18 months away, and as long as Ford still takes visits, things will remain open.

More on this when I get it, but I did want to update you first.

**** More pertinent 2025 notes coming that I have promised. Working in notes and typing when we get free. So stay tuned.

Recruiting DrummBeat: Final Rivals 5-star Challenge buzz and more | Latest on Rivals150 safety Omarion Robinson | Rivals100 OT Lamont Rogers note

*** Let's start with the buzz from the final day of Rivals 5-star Challenge.

First player is 2026 Suwanee (GA) Collins Hill DT Deuce Geralds. Geralds is the 28th ranked player in the 2026 class and he lived up to the hype yesterday. The Rivals100 DT won the defensive line MVP, and rightfully so.

But what does that have to do with Oklahoma, you ask?

Building a gnarly class

On 247 we are currently ranked 5th in recruiting, but we are actually much higher than that. 6 players have a composite score of 94, whereas 247 ranks them anywhere from 93 to 88. Two of our players are composite 93, whereas 247 ranks them 90 and 88. Beyond that there isn’t a composite score that is higher or lower by more than a point than what 247 ranks them, but in the vast majority of cases 247 ranks them lower.

Currently at 5th we are about 20 points behind ND. Unless 247 is ranking every teams recruits lower than the composite this year, it means we actually have closer to 4th and right up there with the big dogs.

Considering the staff is now focusing on those elite top 50 OL to round the class out, I can’t wait to see where we end up.
