Mullen’s garbage last night makes me wonder ... is Herman still the biggest coaching douchebag in America, or is there a new sheriff in town?

Stacey Wilkins

Does anyone know what's going on with this guy? He opted out this season and that's the extent of things we know so far?

Is it a foregone conclusion he hits the portal @Josh_M ? Gotta think with Sam Pittman being HC at Arkansas right now that it's more attractive than even if you're an OL. ***Not that I want that to happen at all, or even have heard of it happening at all, especially with a need at LT and potentially RT with Ealy returning being up in the air (and on Ealy - just because he's eligible to leave doesn't mean he will I do not know anything and have not heard anything)***

Goddamn this was a tough topic to make without hedging everything I said.

California recruiting under Lincoln

Was thinking about how national Ohio State has been recruiting, and got me thinking about how de-prioritized California has become under Lincoln. We’ve missed a Golden opportunity while USC has been down to put a direct line of Cali kids to make up for the lack of in state talent for OU.

Here is the entire list of California kids we have signed since Lincoln has been HBC:

That’s it. I was shocked to see we are only averaging 1.5 kid per class the last 4 years, with a complete blank in 2021.

OU is the first school you reach when you travel from the west coast that has a rabid fan base and a gameday atmosphere that completely changes the entire city. SEC schools, the biggest big 10 schools, and OU are the primary examples of this. No one in California does this and it’s one of the main things that draws California recruits to the region. We used to sell this and get some great players, but it appears we will just keep fighting uphill and watch several players in this region join the mighty SEC while we say “aw shucks” and passive aggressively subtweet recruits.

Wednesday Notes...(UPDATE: 12:38p)

UPDATE: 12:38p - I know that the popular opinion at the moment is that this race is over and because myself and a few others are now picking Alabama, that the race is run. But I'm going to try and find as many ways as I can to reiterate that no one knows where this thing is going to.

According to one source, maybe even Wheaton himself.

I was speaking to the source about when the announcement might happen and got a very poignant answer from someone who should know EVERYTHING that is going on.

"He hasn't said what time he'll announce," the source offered. "And I think that's because he doesn't know where he wants to go."

Right now, this whole thing, even the decision itself happening, feels up in the air.

ORIGINAL: Alright, so I've had a bunch of calls today and it's been an interesting morning, the one thing everyone is sure of in regard to Camar Wheaton? "I'm not sure what he's going to do".

Now what I will say I've gathered is that while Wheaton had been in on again and off again contact with Oklahoma over the past months, in the last week or so, there's been zero contact.

In that time he has spoken, albeit briefly, with Alabama twice.

Now, I'm told no one at Alabama has been told what he'll do and there's no real indication of anything but going off what (extremely little) tangible info there is out there, I'm going to flip my prediction to Alabama for Wheaton.

It's so little info I hate to even make a move but it's staggering that at this point in time there's no real information to connect, it's just loose strands.

What I do find interesting? For all of the Tristan Leigh recruiting that I see Oklahoma's 2021 class doing on social media, they sure don't seem to be working too much toward Wheaton.

Perhaps that's a tell, but regardless, it's an oddity from Caleb Williams and co.

WOKElahoma - December 23, 2020

*So we're finally here, the day of Camar Wheaton's expected announcement.

And with that I was making calls yesterday to try and check on just where the situation is.

What I can say is that it DOES NOT sound like Camar Wheaton signed with anyone last week.

I can say he did not sign with Oklahoma, I'm told he did not sign with Alabama, and the dark horse I've been watching for a while, SMU, doesn't think he'll choose them - whenever he may choose.

Now did he perhaps sign with someone completely out of the blue? Maybe, but it's sure hard to believe a surprise like that from one of the nation's elite talents would be able to kept quiet for a week now.

Which leads me into the next possibility, the chatter that he may not even commit today. If he didn't sign, Wheaton isn't bound to much of anything even with a commitment and there is some chatter that he may decide to delay his announcement.

So Wheaton remains a bit of a mystery but those trying to convince themselves Oklahoma is out, or he has already signed with Alabama, take a breath. Similarly even if he picks Oklahoma today, I'd prepare myself for more rumors and chaos in the month and a half to come.

All this said, I'm still picking Oklahoma - basically because I've heard nothing that would change my mind.

**On Monday Rivals100 defensive lineman Tyson Ford announced that he was focusing on a Final 4...

Interestingly Georgia, who'd offered him just four days earlier, made the cut. Often that is an indication of the group being a bit closer to a final decision and, as you all know, Ford has already set his announcement date for less than a month from now - Jan. 18.

I'd actually heard that Notre Dame was trying to make a run at Ford and checked around with a few sources earlier this week and it sounds like Oklahoma remains confident in their pursuit of him.

His, and his mother's, relationship with Calvin Thibodeaux has been a large part of this recruitment to date and Ford himself speaks glowingly of Oklahoma and the chance to go see the program.

Again, if you can put him together with just about any collection of Gabe Dindy, Bear Alexander, and Omari Abor then you are really onto something.

***It's always fun to look to the future and in this case I'm asking you to look wayyyyy out in the future but it seems that the state of Oklahoma could be ready to produce its next great defensive lineman. And he may very well come in the form of Del City, Okla. 2024 (yes, you read that right) defensive tackle David Stone.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound prospect was a kid I had a chance to see in person back during my summer tour and at the time the staff at Del City told me 'if he gets aimed in the right direction, he can be special' and it sounds like as the year went on he turned that light on for the Eagles.

He's got excellent length, a nice first step, and while it looks a bit awkward at times, try and remember you're watching a freshman. As one Del City source told me, one who has been around elite prospects in his time, 'he's a 100 guy in the future'. Add in that Jaedon Foreman is a strong contender for sophomore of the year and Del City's future and Oklahoma's could be intertwined.

I'll be going over more and more tape over the next few weeks as I work toward my first 2022 rankings as well as getting watch lists together for 2023 and 2024.
