PODCAST: What happened with Caleb and is it over over?

The dust has settled just a little bit after Caleb Williams declared his intentions to enter the transfer portal. By the way, he still hasn't entered it yet. What happened? What went down with OU and Williams' reps when they met? What are these guys looking for? Also, what does Dillon Gabriel bring to the table as a QB. And is there any chance Williams returns to OU?

PODCAST: What happened with Caleb and is it over over?

CW visiting TBOW, huh?

This might be the lowest, classless, vindictive act of disloyalty ever by a former Oklahoma coach in all my years following OU athletics. For TBOW to even encourage CW’s visit, much less actively recruit him, knowing what he did to our program, is absolutely disgusting. He publicly has stated that he loves OU, the players, coaches, fans—blah, blah, blah—and is now trying to steal our starting QB. I am amused with his statements that maybe one day the disappointment will subside, yet he continues to pull staff and players from the program. Does his treachery, dishonesty and BS ever end? What a POS.

Never thought it would be me gun thread

So I am not a gun guy. The only gun I own is a small single shot Remington rifle that my Dad bought for me and my brother to shoot at my Grandmother's farm 50 years ago. Over the years I have thought that I would like to have a pistol to keep in the bedroom in case anyone ever broke into the house. I never did because my wife was hugely against having a gun in the house while our child was in the house. I know, gun safes, gun locks, etc. but happy wife happy life. Anyway, our daughter is now 25 and out of the house and our garage was recently burglarized so I am now looking to buy a handgun for home protection. I plan to take it to a range to learn how to safely and effectively use it but its purpose is to stop anyone that breaks in to our house. I am not looking for anything fancy or expensive. Just a good quality, easy to use pistol. I'm open to suggestions for brand, caliber, etc. I'm fine with new or used. Any suggestions/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Caleb Williams announces intention to enter Portal ... what's next? ... UPDATE: 7:08p MONDAY

UPDATE 7:08p - Dillon Gabriel is a Sooner

UPDATE 5:03P - Well here we are ... I've got some good news as far as an update is concerned and I've got some bad news. Let's start with the bad and then we'll end on something that could bring you some clarity.

* We expect Mario Williams to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. There has long been a belief that he was tied at the hip with Caleb Williams and Williams announcement Monday afternoon all but solidifies that. I do believe that Mario will enter the Portal sooner than later.

* Now for some good news. I find this news to be rather telling for a multitude of reasons ... long story short: It's my belief Dillon Gabriel is absolutely in play. This could even happen as soon as Monday evening. Jeff Lebby and Gabriel's relationship has been well documented.

What does that say for the status of CW and Oklahoma? I think it's certainly telling. In a way it almost makes you think OU was prepared for this news and that they are ready to move on. That's purely speculation on my part but it's hard not to read into it if it does indeed happen as quickly as I expect it to.

Gabriel threw for over 8,000 yards, including two seasons of more than 3,500 yards, as well as a total of 70 passing touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns during his time at Central Florida.

UPDATE 3:08p - Caleb Williams has officially announced his intention to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal as we discussed this morning.

ORIGINAL 11:42a: If I had to predict what happens with Caleb Williams here's how I see it playing out ... based off things I'm hearing:

* I think he is going to enter the Portal
* I'll give you a moment to process that news and then hit you with what you all are really not going to want to hear ... I don't think this means he's absolutely done at Oklahoma. I'm told entry to the Portal will be to officially see what's out there. Yes, I know how most of you will react to that and I can't change your opinion. Let me repeat for the sake of clarity. I don't think an entry into the Portal means he's absolutely done at Oklahoma. But I do admit it's the not development any of you all want to hear.
* What's next for Oklahoma? I think they'll continue to 're-recruit' Caleb Williams to Oklahoma. It's gross, in a way. But it's also the reality of the times we live in.
* Do they immediately reach out to Dillon Gabriel? I think you have to make that call.
* What is the collateral damage going to look like? My immediate thought is where is Mario Williams in all this? I think he's the one that you have to be most worried about in terms of losing if CW doesn't return to Norman.
* I have been told OU isn't going to just let a talent like CW walk; in terms of NIL stuff I do think OU has a plan that could entice Williams but ultimately it's up to him and his family on where they feel like he can find the most success. Again. I know this isn't what you all want to hear. I know how this is going to be received by a majority of the fanbase.
* So if it's not Oklahoma where does CW end up? With Joe Brady now being mentioned at Miami U as Mario Cristobal's possible hire I don't think I have to connect the dots for you ... Notre Dame is an intriguing option. I, personally, just don't know if I buy the Georgia scuttlebutt. This is me just talking it out as I go not necessarily reporting those options are on the table but to me those are a couple schools that make sense if a return to Norman is not in order.
* As for a timeline from the time if/when he does enter ... I don't think he would drag this thing out. I don't think he would hold OU hostage. I don't necessarily like that phrasing but it kind of is what it is. This could all be wrapped in the next week or so.

Again. I know this isn't the news you want. It could entirely change the second I hit publish. But this is what I'm hearing as of Monday mid-morning.

Dillon Gabriel - Performance Breakdown (Release Time, Agility)

OU has got themselves a good one.

A few quick tidbits that standout:
- Very developed athletically - May get a bit stronger but he is probably at his ceiling as it relates to speed/vertical but there probably won’t be too many insane breakthroughs in the offseason.
- Seems to maximize his mechanics on deep balls (likely due to the need to generate power for D1 game)
- Quicker than fast (Yea, I’m thinking Baker-comp 🙄)
- Great feet!

@Josh - Easiest Position To Develop?

Josh, in a recent thread you commented that it's always better to get high 4 star and 5 star players than just relying on developing 2-3 star players - which I agree with.

My question is... Which position do you believes lends itself to being able to develop better than others? For instance, I suspect a 2 star QB who can't throw worth a damn is likely doomed. However, you take a player like Lane Johnson who was a QB (IIRC) and turned him into a monster tackle. I know there is no guarantee, but statistically which position would be easiest to develop into an above-average player.

Others can chime in too... Not that you needed my permission...

Teddy and Gabe don’t think CW…

Is coming back based off of their conversations with players and coaches this week. I can see him go south to play in college station. Hopefully he stays but it doesn’t make sense for him to keep this going if he isn’t leaving, his mind has to already be made up. I just wonder where we go moving forward at the position if he leaves?

"The whole transfer portal thing and Coach BV going up there and saying all of that, I was focused on finishing the semester off strong, being with my guys, making sure all of my guys that won't be here next year - I have the chance to be here. All my guys that won't be here next year, they go off on the right note. We go 11-2, and I'm about to go on vacation with my family. I haven't been on vacation in a really long time. After all these ups and downs, I want to go on vacation, spend time with my family and focus on that. And that's it."

Lebby/Venables

“We talk all the time, me and Coach Lebby. He’s called me like – I think we’ve talked like every day since I’ve been here since he hasn’t been able to be here.

“And then also Coach BV, as everybody knows, you see it on the sidelines, you can see it – when he’s not coaching, you can see it in practice and things like that, even when he’s not coaching right now, he has a whole lot of energy, a whole lot of passion for what he’s doing. I think Oklahoma chose the right guy to come here and be the head guy, and we’ll see how Oklahoma does and how I decide.”
