Here are a couple of post practice tidbits for your liking ...

* Bob Stoops and Mike Stoops both came in this evening. In all honesty, neither were in a very good mood. It was actually rather odd looking back on it.

Couple of housekeeping items to cover ...

- Mike Stoops told Carey tonight Matt Dimon is still not with the team practicing. Stoops didn't care to elaborate on the situation but it didn't sound like anything that is going to be restored/resolved overnight.

* How about a name on the defensive side of the ball that continues to come up during post practice interviews? Devante Bond. And that might even be undisputed. Bond's name has come up repeatedly ... the head man himself brought his name up- again- this evening.

* The new name that was thrown into the fold tonight was D.J. Ward. We actually had an opportunity to speak with Ward tonight and he sounds like he's really enjoying the coaching change at DL, while also just becoming more comfortable in the defense. More importantly he's finally healthy.

-- Ward said that he actually relates to Diron Reynolds a lot better than he did with Jerry Montgomery. He credited it to Reynolds laid back style of coaching, commenting that he's just trying to act like a sponge and soak everything up here during the spring.

-- Ward said he's playing the 4-tech

* The frosh trio of Khalil Haughton, Will Sunderland and Prentice McKinney are going to have an opportunity to play a lot ... I say this after hearing Mike Stoops talk about the development of players in the secondary. Not even a name like Jordan Thomas came up when talking about guys that are playing well.

-- It's rather clear (Mike) Stoops isn't happy about the depth in the secondary, specifically at safety.

* Interestingly enough Dakota Austin was asked tonight about new DBs coach Kerry Cooks ... Austin said Cooks has brought an increased amount of energy to the practice field and meeting rooms. Seems to really like his new position coach.

-- Austin echoed other secondary 'mates that it is going to help with everyone now in the same room.

-- Austin did drop an interesting nugget in that he said the addition of Cooks has given everyone a fresh slate. He even said that it was refreshing to know there wouldn't be any 'bias'. I took that as him alluding to Bobby Jack Wright and possibly siding with a veteran player like Julian Wilson.

-- Austin said John Humphrey is extremely fast ... added that he'll be a force once he gets his route running trimmed up.

* Eric Striker had a great interview session with the media tonight ... he listed off a number of guys that he felt like are really having a good spring: DJ Ward was the first name that came out of his mouth. Dede Westbrook was another.

-- Striker singled out Tay Evans as a linebacker that he felt like is really starting to come on as of late. Tay's name has come up more than once over the last two weeks. Striker said he thought Buzzy (Curtis Bolton) was having a good spring as well.

* Nila Kasitati joined the media before heading off to class. He noted Kenyon Frison as a guy that he thought was really coming along and grasping what is being asked of him. That's good news there.

We'll have much, much more but that's a good place to start. And, of course, I'll be adding some things as I go through the rest of today's media session.
