SEC predictions

OU plays 5 teams that won ten games last year.
Ole Miss, Texas, Alabama, Missouri and LSU are ranked by some polls as top 10 teams. OU plays road games with Ole Miss and LSU.
If OU finishes with 8 wins, including Texas, and plays well on defense, I’ll be satisfied.
The 2024 schedule is on paper, the toughest schedule OU has ever had in my opinion, and lifetime (since 1948).

CFN in another article has all those games listed at 50-50 but its another writer for them. He caps OU O/U wins at 8. It will be interesting to see if those teams you listed live up to the hype they are being given.

I have said it before, early season polls are all about opinions and its really stupid to even release one until about midway through the season.

I am hoping BV and company shuts up a lot of the “ Your in the big boy league” crowd because if OU doesnt the SEC fans will be loud with “ We told you”. If Arkansas finishes better than OU I cant even phantom the crap I will hear from all my hog friends here in Arkansas. Ill just send them to 67.

What’s wild about Arkansas is last season there was several games they could have won. BYU, 38-31,(was leading by 10 at one point), LSU 34-31, Ole Miss 27-20, Bama 24-21, and State 7-3.

Good information.
In the SEC, there’s really no sure win against any team. Arkansas was a good example.
Where do you live in Arkansas. I am a Sooner Grad and big Sooner fan, and I live in Bentonville, Arkansas. Not much love for the Sooners here!!!

Agree on Hogs. They just really lack a great HC and if they ever get one it could change the projectory for that program. In the late 60s Arkansas use to be my 2nd favorite team and I listened to many of those games on the old transister radios.

When I settled in Arkansaa after leaving the military in 88 I quickly drew a dislike for them. The fanbase here can do that and when they joined the SEC it just got worse. Many of these fans truely live in a bubble and think when an SEC team wins a championship think they won it also. I will say they do have a great atmosphere in Fayetteville though as I have been to a few of those games.

I have been married to a Razorback fan for 42 years but she knows I will never ever call the WPS call just like I will never chant the SEC BS. For the record my wife does root for OU also.

8-4.....I think our D will keep us in most if not all games and hopefully we will be able to pull out a few close wins BUT if Venables goes 7-5 will there be some discontent with him?

Will OU be the Nebraska of the SEC? Time will tell.
I think OU will have a better presence in the SEC than Nebraska did in the Big10.
The proximity to Texas talent and the new-found ability to recruit in Dixie will keep OU in good standing. Plus it appears Venables is getting in-state talent much better now.
Nebraska is a program that will remain out of reach of its past glories forever.

The world continues to shrink with increased technology. While proximity to home is still a big driver, it doesn't seem to be as important as it once was.

Omitting Oklahoma and its connecting states - Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Colorado, the list below shows the other states (and country) that represent our roster.

England
North Carolina
Michigan
Mississippi
Nevada
Tennessee
Florida
Ohio
Virginia
Maryland
Minnesota
Washington
Nebraska
New Jersey
Indiana
South Carolina
Alabama
Pennsylvania
Georgia

Wow!! That’s amazing. I’ve never considered that. Great post, JCon.

9-3 is pretty optimistic considering the complete overhaul of the offensive line. And while JA has tons of "potential", he hasn't proven himself on the field. Even with the expected improvement on defense, I'm thinking anything better than 7-5 will be an accomplishment.

People need to understand that an 8-4 record this year should be considered a successful season. If this year's team was able to go back in time and play the teams from last year they'd go 13-0.

It seems the fear of those letters SEC scares a lot of people. Its a tough league but it also has its share of average teams. From top to bottom it has more average teams than the B12 but its not like the B12 was a cake walk every year.

I said it earlier I think CFN prediction of 9-3 is very doable if the D actually lives up to the hype this year and if it does we as fans may all be very surprised with the years result. I am more concerned with the OL more than anything and if they struggle coming together then it may very well be a 7-5 season. I dont think 9 wins is unreasonable expectations though.

The problem (at least as it pertains to this year) is that OU got the short end of the stick on SEC scheduling. There are five SEC teams in the preseason top eight nationally, and OU has to play four of them, while Texas only has to play one of them (Georgia). OU also has to play LSU and Tennessee, who are ranked 14th and 15th. That is an absolute murderer’s row of a conference schedule.

Give OU Texas’ conference schedule this year, and 9-3 is very likely, maybe even 10-2. However, that’s not very likely with the brutal hand that OU was dealt this year.

Agree on the schedule but in the end you are either good enough to win those games or your not. Just speaking for myself I dont buy into the pre-season ranking as outside of the hype ( thats exactly what pre-season polls are) we wont know anything about these teams until about 4-5 weeks into the season. We have seen this with OU in the past.

Pre-seasons polls arent going away but they shouldnt exist in this day and age

Not necessarily.
You’re assuming Arnold is as good as…or better than….Gabriel. That has yet to be proven.
& speaking of DG, guess who’s now the Heisman favorite……
