I hit a lot of OU message boards and I noticed not one topic or thread mentioned about Perine. I believe he had 158 yards rushing and 17 yards receiving. A little short of Baker, but still pretty good.

I think it's real important that he has a great season to not only win, but to attract the great running back prospects in the nation. Trust me, these recruits are looking at our Air Raid and want to see where they fit. I might as well throw in the top OL prospects as well.

We have put some great RB's and Offensive linemen into the NFL over the last few years. It's been a great recruiting tool.

The last thing I want to see is the Air Raid close those pipelines. Okay, I'm ready for all the posts about I don't care about the NFL, just win at OU, but you know I speak the truth............

K2, I don't care about the NFL just win at OU.

Seriously, you make a good point. The more Sooners that make it to the NFL, the better players OU stands to get. That's the ultimate goal for 99.9% of the kids being recruited out of high school.

But I really don't care about the NFL.

I don't know, could be he has some different marching orders, but it seems he's not as prolific a runner as last year. He just doesn't have the reckless abandon that we saw.
I could be wrong though.
That happens too.

I don't see much of a change in his "marching orders" at all. He ripped off some big, runs vs. UT and TU. The guy can still carry the ball when the tough yards are needed and also has the power and speed to make things happen when he gets in the open field. The fact that the offense has changed from a run-reliant zone read offense to a pass first offense may result in fewer carries, but more receptions for the RBs. Also, it is likely that blocking schemes have changed and the youth in our O-line will determine the success of our running game.

So, I could see how some might think he's not being used to the fullest extent or that something is different than last year, but I just don't think that's the case. The season's still early, but after three games, I would not be surprised if he has less carries this year compared to last year.

A better recruiting tool would be the OL improves and let's Perine and Mixon run loose.
BR I think this might be a struggle the entire year. We may have to rely more heavily on the passing game and try to get the RB's involved through screens, etc. Heck Riley even through in a shuttle pass the other day which I liked.
