Looks like Bob has decide Defense wins Championships, Finally

The snot-bubble count when playing the Sooners is about to go up down the road.

Oklahoma continues to get more violent on defense during this 2017 recruiting cycle with the latest addition coming in the form of Top247 linebacker Jacob Phillips

U.S. Army All-American in Levi Draper in this 3-4 defense. Phillips ranks as the country’s No. 7 inside linebacker per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite while Draper is the No. 1 inside linebacker in America

Safety commit Robert Barnes may be more ferocious then Draper and Phillips when hitting ball-carriers. A vicious tackler, the 6-foot-3, 194-pound Barnes is an instinctive player, diagnosis well, finds the football quickly and arrives with a ton of impact. A tone-setter, 247Sports ranks Barnes as the country’s No. 6 safety in America.

Two more U.S. Army All-Americans in Addison Gumbs and Isaiah Thomas are unique pass rushers along with K'Jakyre Daley being a third that has a knack for making plays behind the line of scrimmage. The cornerback commits are two of the best tacklers in the country at their position.

Both Top247 recruits in Under Armour All-Americans Justin Broiles and Tre Brown like contact it seems as much as Barnes. Both can be seen flying into the flat decleating ball-carriers.

Now bring on the Big Uglies. Boyce pulled his Texass commit, I think OU is his new #1

The 2017 class looks very good and could be the best one in the Stoops' era....but I wouldn't depend on first year players (true freshman) right away, in any season.
Obviously there are rare exceptions like Adrian Peterson, but most take at least a year (or a redshirt year) to make their presence felt.

Good pe sence is not pe ing into the wind... ha!

All great defenses have a Tommie Harris-type DL. Is there one out there still available?
You are correct. That is what has been missing from OU defenses consistently.
Every now and again, we get a DL that will play above his head and the D feels good.
But we have not dominated the D-Line consistently in several years.
That needs to be a priority this year, next year and every year after.

For 2017 I think Marvin Wilson is the top guy on OUs offer list. After the Ohio State game it didn't look good as he was reported as saying OU was no longer on his list since he was in the stands at Norman to watch that thrashing. But he has recently made mention OU is still very much in his recruiting mix.

Maybe not Tommy Harris but Boyce and Rogers are solid and I think we have a good chance of getting both. Wilson might be another Harris or McCoy type but I seriously doubt we get him.

On the other side, I hope we get Filiaga.

Any of the remaining teams on our schedule that can get some 3 and outs from their defenses, will pose a serious threat to the Sooners ability to win the game. Sooner porous defense under Mike Stoops is of the likes I've never seen. Mike needs to go now.

4 Star DT Greg Rodgers is set to make his announcement Wednesday. This would be a huge get and a position we desperately have been lacking, the last few years.

It's down to USC,CU, UCLA and OU. Thibodeaux is suppose to be All In on him.

OU may not have the luxury of sitting some of these guys. U's defense is not playing well at the moment. Some of these recruits will be given the opportunity to earn a starting spot.

Absolutely agree.
But incoming freshman, especially defensive players, cannot be expected to instantly shore up a deficient defense.
The first three games in 2017 are: UTEP on 9/02, Ohio State on 9/09 and Tulane on 9/16. That's two dwarf throwing jamborees surrounding a road game at Ohio State. With the Big 12 continually in decline, the Ohio State game is a crucial game for OU. If the Sooners can survive that game, some great things could be unfolding the remainder of the year.

This needs to be Mike Stoops last season but regarding next season, all I can say about Sooner football future greatness under Bob Stoops: please prove it! Not buying into any more preseason hype regardless of rankings. Coaching is as much an issue as players. Concerning that Bob Stoops can no longer win big games. Most telling is losing big games in Norman- ND, TOSU, KSU twice, BU, OSU, etc.
