Oklahoma bolstered its defensive line Sunday by picking up a commitment from Notre Dame graduate transfer Jay Hayes.

Hayes announced his decision on Twitter.

Hayes started all 13 games for the Irish last season. He finished with 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack and a fumble recovery.

Hayes could help the Sooners in replacing All-Big 12 defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, who was a senior last year.

Awesome. I love adding depth, but he's going to have to work his butt off to break into the rotation with Bledsoe, Galimore, Mann, Overton, Faamatu (sp?), etc.

If you read the ND board, they say he's graduating early and transferring because he knew he was going to lose his starting position to younger, more talented players. Fans (and we're no different) always have to rationalize these things. It's just like the Tech fans telling us Mayfield ran away because he didn't want to compete for the QB position in Lubbock.

set to replace Obo - 6'1" 240lbs
or DJ Ward - 6'2" 260lbs

A big DE is what we needed. We had no push with our linebacker-sized DEs.
