Josh,
I was hoping you could shed some light on a question.
What are the issues behind OU's recent struggles to land, & in many cases even be truly considered by, the top/elite Texas HS defensive players?
2016 - Brandon Jones, Eric Monroe, Deontay Anderson, Brandon Bowen, Jared Mayden.
2015 - seems to be more of a pattern there with Thompson & Sheffeld heading to Alabama while the vast majority of the others were aTm bound.
2014 - Myles Garrett, Tony Brown, Jamal Adams, Ed Paris, Zach Whitley,
2013 - Mike Mitchell, A'shawn Robinson, Antuan Davis, Maurice Smith.
2012 - Mario Edwards, Malcom Brown, Ladarrell McNiel
You have to go all the way back to 2011 for the last time OU landed a top 20 player from the state of Texas that was a defensive player.
Everyone is up in arms about how to stop or slow down Baylor type offenses, but if you don't have the horses to run & play tight man coverage & contest every ball & the bullies upfront to push the pocket & stop the run there just isn't much you can do. I knew OU had fallen off in Texas but the lack of any presence for the states top defenders is truly surprising.
