FINAL AP POLL...

Considering OU played with essentially only half a team (all offense and no defense), a number 4 ranking is okay by me.
As for next year, I believe any preseason ranking for OU inside the top 5 or 6 teams, is very generous. But OU's schedule is not overly challenging, with only Texas looking to be the strongest opponent. Games with Houston, O-State and West Virginia are at home. UCLA is the only OOC road game.
2019 also looks like another Alabama-Clemson dual for the championship to me. I don't see any other team equaling these two teams.

Works for me. With our defense or lack there of, we could’ve easily finished lower if not outside the top 10-15 or possibly worse.
If anyone else would’ve had our defense, they would’ve finished outside the top 20.
That includes Bama and Clemson.

I'm very satisfied with the #4 ranking, but am also laughing at the talking heads who were whining about how the CFP Committee screwed up by putting a one-loss OU team in the top four instead of UGA, Ohio State, UCF, etc., after the conference championship games.

UGA showed they were not worthy of making the CFP by losing to texas, Ohio State hung on to outlast a two-loss Washington team and UCF lost to a two-loss LSU squad.

OU deserved to be there and the final season ranking proves it.

Onwards and upwards Riley and Grinch. No hiccups this year. Develop this young talent and dominate !!
Agree, kc....but I can see 2019 as a bit of a transition year with the QB situation unknown and not as good as it's been over the past 4 years. Whoever starts at QB, however, will have lots of help surrounding him, especially if the OL can stay top level.
Plus, the defense likely will be marginally better as Grinch has a lot of work to do to rebuild one of CFB's all time worst defenses. I can't see an instant fix (one year), but then, I never expected a national championship to follow the 1999 season.

Yes hope the young pups get coached up real good. Make them pop out of their recruit bubble and into CFB reality. We will be a weak conference next year, so it is imperative that we smoke everyone on the schedule. That is a definite.

In the too early preseason rankings we are 6th in both espn and sports illustrated
