Football Position group overview: Linebackers, Cheetah

Took a look at the linebackers and the cheetah spot. There's so many ways both the WILL and Cheetah spots could shake out.

(Heads up, this was written before the McCullough injury buzz. There is still no official word on McCullough, but this article covers other players who will be in the mix if McCullough is out for an extended period).

Recruiting Oklahoma visit and offer leaves 2026 DE Hudson Woods duly impressed

Like the film here. It'll be interesting to see what kind of leap he makes as a junior. OU got their foot in the door early, so if Woods blows up, don't expect the Sooners to fade from contention.

Recruiting DrummBeat: Quick note on 2026 Rivals100 QB commit Jaden O’Neal

Just wanted to update you all on Sooners four-star QB commit Jaden O’Neal.

He’s been in Norman since Wednesday night and plans on staying until Saturday evening, according to his Dad, Jerren O’Neal. If that doesn’t show locked in with OU…

As far as the event/camp went, O’Neal was the ONLY QB on hand for Sooners Under the Stars. That meant he spent a good amount of time building up an on-field rapport with all of the Sooners’ targets.

During O’Neal’s time in Norman, he made a point to really work with 4-star RB commit Jonathan Hatton and 3-star TE commit Ryder Mix. I’m told both showed out and really made a solid impression on O’Neal. I’m also told that Mix is “the real deal.” Almost everyone I have spoken with says that Mix was “uncoverable” and that he has a chance to be “special.” Very solid eval by Joe Jon Finley there.

As originally noted, O’Neal really put on his recruiting hat this weekend and, of course, made a big impression with potential 5-star DL Deuce Geralds (as noted in my pinned note) and with potential 5-star DB Brandon Arrington.

A source that I spoke with says O’Neal and Arrington “hit it off and really started to build a strong bond.” The source even added that Ryder Mix played a role there, too. Working on finding out more on Arrington and his visit, but I am told Jay Valai has been putting in work. Could there be a return for Arrington during the season? Something we hope to have more on soon.

Finally, O’Neal’s personality has been big as the Sooners look to start really pressing for their 2026 targets, so I wanted to make sure I got a note up on how things went with the 4-star and Rivals100 QB on-hand for the Sooners Under the Stars.

*** As always, more to come.

Recruiting Oklahoma visit "mind-blowing" to 2027 DE target KJ Green

Kid's already got offers from Georgia, Clemson and Auburn, but said Oklahoma is his top school after yesterday's visit.

Is TT better than they are getting credit for?

#1 player in the country in Canady, the #2 recruiting class coming in, a bunch of transfers (5 from Louisiana following their coach), and one of the best coaches in the country. Of course that coach and those 5 players ended our record winning streak.

We don’t have an ace pitcher, but a decent staff. We have two awesome returning freshmen, the #1 recruiting class, and either the #1 or #2 transfer class (depending on how much weight Canady is given). Of course we have the GOAT Patty.

OU definitely gets the nod, but you could definitely make the argument that TT may not be all *that* far behind, given how much Canady affects the game.

Basketball A quick note on 2025 G Jaylon Dean-Vines

Login to view embedded media Jaylon Dean-Vines, who took an OV to Oklahoma last month, released his Top-Five: Texas A&M, Vandy, Louisville, WVU, and UCF.

I'll make this very simple, Oklahoma moved on. If you have been following along to my notes posted on him over the last few weeks, it should have been easy to tell that the Sooners were going to move on.

SEC Road Trips: 2024

OUInsider subscribers:

We are just over a month away from the Sooners' 2024 season getting underway and after a four-game home stand to begin the year, Oklahoma will take its first-ever SEC road trip to Auburn (AL) to take on the Tigers.

While I'm certain that some of you are more familiar with SEC country, this season will provide a plethora of firsts for Sooner Nation. With new destinations comes new experiences (new places to stay, eat, hang out), and I wanted to give this community a place to share, ask, post, etc., anything that might pertain to those upcoming road trips.

So, with that said, who is planning on hitting the road this fall, and to which games?

OU Road Games for 2024

at Auburn (Sep 28) — Auburn, AL
at Ole Miss (Oct 26) — Oxford, MS
at Missouri (Nov 9) — Columbia, MO
at LSU (Nov 30) — Baton Rouge, LA

Of course, the OUInsider team will be on the road at those games as well, so make sure and keep us in the loop so we can catch you guys on Gameday!
