Thursday Notes...

I'm told that Oklahoma is going to be hosting the nation's No. 22 prospect for the class of 2021, cornerback Tony Grimes this weekend.

Good news? We'll see him in Atlanta on Monday at the Rivals 5-Star Challenge and get an interview just after he returns home on Sunday from a trip to see the Sooners as well as Texas and Texas A&M while he is in the region.

HAVE to think that the timing of Brock Vandagriff's commitment is huge for Oklahoma.

Tuesday Notes...(UPDATE: 11:14a)

UPDATE 11:14a - I've talked to a few sources about Jalin Conyers visit today and there is a lot of confidence that the Sooners will simply further their lead. In fact one source wouldn't rule out him pulling the trigger while on campus.

I'm not predicting he commits today but I'm just saying, keep your eye on it.

ORIGINAL:
*OK, so what I'm hearing on Dontae Manning isn't great. The Raytown, Mo. Sooner commitment seems to be wavering a bit and a decommitment shouldn't come as a huge surprise to anyone.

Now I will say that I don't have the feeling that this is a guy OU feels like they need to just move on from - basically he is giving them plenty of indication that come NSD they'll be as involved as anyone. But I also think he is a kid that is starting to think about seeing what else is out thereand not carrying around the guilt about taking those trips.

We'll see where things go but again I'd bet a decommitment comes at some point and then we'll see where it goes from there but I DO NOT at this point expect Oklahoma to simply move on.

*Now, what is interesting is that when these rumors first started coming around I hit a few other people up and the response I got was largely that 'should he decommit, so will others (from other schools)'. It's a marked change I've seen from some years past where Oklahoma, on defense, seemed to be running from one place to the next. Right now on defense there just seems to be a calm of 'ok, if that happens, we'll figure out the next step'.

And in some years past I'd say 'well that's just a lack of urgency' but that's not the feeling I get, it just feels like Oklahoma isn't going to get worried about something not going their way or jump to a quick decision.

It's all very confident and steady.

*For those that have forgotten, Oklahoma will play host to linebacker offer Edgerrin Cooper tomorrow and my feeling is that this is a guy that Oklahoma could make a push for given some time. We'll see what things look like when I can catch up with him tomorrow.

Monday Notes...

*OK first off is some news that I think you all will be pleased with is Aledo, Texas running back Jase McClellan. I've talked to a few sources and it sounds like the word is that McClellan enjoyed himself but there was no real buzz that a flip was imminent.

Now, I think there is some cause to believe that this race isn't over but the good thing for Oklahoma is that with six months to go, Texas has fired it's biggest bullet. Now the Sooners have time to speak with him and calm things down with months to go before a final decision has to be made.

We'll see how that goes but again, I don't get the impression there is immediate danger here.

**The next is the situation around Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness linebacker offer Brynden Walker. There was a report out tonight that he had reaffirmed with Oklahoma State and was going to stick with his prior commitment.

I hit him up about it and he admitted some truth in it but my impression is that, basically, things are as they were.

"For the time being I'm pretty firm with OSU but that could change," Walker said.

Let's see what happens but I think if Oklahoma wants to make a real run, they'll be able to.

***Also spoke to some folks about Dontae Manning's Texas A&M visit and while there are no fireworks coming there is some confident around Aggieland that they made an impact in his recruitment.

From what I gathered, coming into the weekend the Aggies felt like they had a chance to turn his attention and were pretty nonchalant about word getting out about his visit. And it seems like they hit a lot of the right notes during his trip to A&M.

However, much like Texas and McClellan they missed their biggest opportunity to turn his head.

This is a race Oklahoma can, and probably should, win but there's no doubt that Jimbo Fisher and co. gave him a lot to think about and things could get interesting.

Thursday Notes...

I got a heads-up from our Texas site this morning that Jase McClellan will be taking an official visit to Texas this weekend.

As I've said for a long time that's just a door he has never really tried to close and I thought that things would pick up considerably once Zach Evans was, at least publicly, off of Texas' list. Now maybe the two things are unrelated but the timing is definitely interesting.

I will continue to check into it and maybe Scoop can have some more tomorrow or if anything is pressing I will add it to the Notes.

WOKElahoma - June 12, 2019

Alright guys, I remembered this week - huzzah!

But that's where the huzzahs ends, for the moment, that's because I've got some defensive back news you all are not going to be excited about.

First off is that Dontae Manning has confirmed to me that he'll be taking an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend. I have been told that he informed the staff, Roy Manning is my understanding of who he let know, earlier this week so it's not as though it's something he was trying to sneak past.

As you all know, I tend to find that as a good sign but we'll see what happens here as obviously the Aggies will do all they can to turn Manning further South.

Still though Manning has always felt pretty steady with his decision.

The other bit of news is that four-star cornerback commitment Ryan Watts is on campus at Penn State today. Watts has been open about the trip and confirmed he is there with me. Again, I feel pretty good about where Oklahoma is - more so with Watts than Manning.

The interesting thing is if this opens up some doors for other schools to get back in on the chase for either.

*OK, back to some good news, the buzz I'm hearing on potential five-star quarterback Brock Vandagriff is blisteringly good at the moment.

"He left Oklahoma thinking very seriously about making the call," one source said.

It sounds like Oklahoma gave the family the impression they were more than willing to wait for him if there was an inclination that the Sooners were real contenders. It sounds like that hint was definitely given and now the Sooners are right in the thick of the race.

In fact, if what I'm hearing is right, they are considerably more than that.

Vandagriff had mentioned next spring as the final part of his decision process but it sounds like he is more than willing to get things done with. I've heard it could come 'any day now' and I've also heard that he'd like to get one last pitch from Georgia before coming to anything final. All in all though, it sounds like everyone is chasing Oklahoma and we all might know a verdict by the end of the month.

*A lot of you had asked about where things are with Bryson Washington following his visit to Texas last weekend. I've been given the impression that things went well in Austin but there was nothing to turn him away from the idea that has most believing the Sooners are on top.

He is working to set up one more visit with Oklahoma though I'm not yet sure it will happen - that had been a real issue for quite some time before his official visit.

*Finally, listen to the pod alone, I was informative, funny, and probably a bit too audibly sexy for some of your WAGs to act appropriately.
