OFFENSE:
QB: Dillon Gabriel - 81 - This grade could have been higher if he'd gotten a little help but I really thought he was pretty good.
RB: Eric Gray - 85 - Had some great moments but clearly wasn't full speed in the second half.
WR: Drake Stoops - 72 - Man loved some of his off the ball stuff and a few key conversions for OU.
WR: Marvin Mims - 20 - It will be forever remembered as his worst game as a Sooner, just awful.
WR: Jalil Farooq - 82 - Huge touchdown that really stemmed Iowa State momentum that was building.
TE: Brayden Willis- 73 - Not his greatest game including a costly drop but still plenty of good work away from the ball.
OT: Anton Harrison - 81 - I thought he was great in the second half but drifted a little bit in the second.
OG: McKade Mettauer - 65 - He came out pretty early, very interested to see how the snap count played out.
C: Andrew Raym - 83 - I want to watch more but I REALLY liked what I did see from Raym, especially in the first half.
OG: Chris Murray - 65 - I can't say I saw him moving people around like he often can.
OT: Wanya Morris - 30 - Wow, I don't know if he got hurt in the second or what but he fell off a cliff.
Offensive Average: 67 (737)
DEFENSE:
DE: Jonah Laulu - 81 - I thought he was outstanding in the run game and had a few flashes in the pass.
DT: Isaiah Coe - 77 - Him going off hurt OU, thought the DL wasn't quite as dominant in the run game from there.
NT: Jalen Redmond - 81 - Kind of a quiet day but had a few decent moments.
DE: Ethan Downs - 79 - Kind of the same as REdmond, nothing really caught my eye but was solid enough.
LB: Danny Stutsman - 71 - Man, he was solid against the run but had some AWFUL moments against the pass BUUUUUT what about the pick? Tough score.
LB: David Ugwoegbu - 83 - I thought he had his best game of the year honestly.
CH: DaShaun White - 92 - Man, that was a career game for White, not sure he'll ever get his due but that was what OU hoped for from him.
CB: Woodi Washington - 88 - It wasn't an interception but he made a ton of quality plays and I thought tackled extremely well.
CB: Jaden Davis - 73 - Again, tackled well but thought he was giving up a bit too much space at times.
S: Justin Broiles - 84 - Great interception and had a few good moments before that as well.
S: Key Lawrence - 77 - Just missed an interception of his own but got beat in some coverage stuff.
Defensive Average: 80.5 (886)
SPECIAL TEAMS:
K: Zach Schmit - 100 - ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!
P: Michael Turk - 99 - Sure, sure, he was great...but did he score a touchdown?
KR: Jalil Farooq - 60 - The horizontal kickoff return is always a bad idea.
PR: Marvin Mims - 55 - For the most part did what he needed to but letting the one roll late in the fourth was an AWFUL choice.
Special Teams Average: 78.5 (314)
Key Reserves:
RB: Marcus Major - 65 - He just didn't look decisive at any point to me.
TE: Daniel Parker - 86 - I saw him a few times and people are telling me I should have watched him just bodying people, anxious for MMI.
CB: Gentry Williams - 78 - I liked his deep ball with Hutchinson, thought it showed a good feel for the fighting you CAN get away with (then got away with a late GRAB)
S: Trey Morrison - 80 - I'm just a fan of this guy's game. He isn't an immense talent but man he fights for every inch and makes some scrappy plays.
Reserves Average: 77.3 (309)
Team Average: 74.9 (2246)
My Overall Grade: 75
Breakdown: My averages and my score came out about the same because I think that's a lower level Big 12 contending performance right there. It's not pretty, it's not special but defenses that have played far worse than that have helped Oklahoma to Big 12 titles.
Now I'm a bit more concerned about the offense even though it was going against a game Iowa State group. When the defense needed stops it found them. When the offense needed plays, it couldn't come up with many. Now part of that is about Eric Gray and Marvin Mims not being full speed but there were still far too many lulls in play in the second half.
The offensive line had good moments but I want to go back and look at how much more aggressive Iowa State was being with it's back eight after about the midpoint of the second quarter.
All in all? A win is a win in a year like this, just keep stacking as many of them as you can.
