Can someone explain this to me?

So idk if anyone has noticed but we do not “scheme” anyone open ever. i’m sitting here watching texas do that exact thing w all this motion and stuff to get the defense off balance and get people open. but then we go out and it kinda seems like we just line up and run at them. does anyone w more knowledge of play concepts/calls etc … have an opinion??

My second question is after making lebby the highest paid OC in the country for two years a QB coach/Great player caller to perfectly match BV… but then he leaves and for some reason when he leaves we don’t go back out and hire again like we’ve already done successfully … instead we hire two guys that don’t even replace what lebby was here to do?? (coach QBs) so ig what i’m asking is what changed?

Momentum is Real

Momentum is huge!!
Biggest play of the game was when Stutsman allowed the Texas WR that hustled his as off to recover that fumble !!!
But, with the OL and the constant run Hawkins it was bad. I was pissed and wanted JA for downfield throws and believe he deserved a shot. Only because Hawkins was taking too many hits and the season is long!!
Arm talking not wrapping up defensive football when the game was tight!!
Gosh damn I’m disgusted!!!!

Sink or swim...no pressure

I won't be the first to say this, but I do want to unequivocally position myself along the lines of: our offense needs to show balance, depth, creativity and the ability to build upon and plan Saturday..or else.

I've just seen too many games where teams with inequitable talent have played well...and even dominated teams/defenses with a major advantage on the other side of the ball. Vandy and Boise immediately come to mind (although that kid at RB may be the best rb I've seen in 5 or so years).

The oline is healthy..as healthy as can be. The wrs are not a shock anymore. The pups have played a ton and should not be afraid of the moment. We've identified our qb of the future AND he's a true dual qb, which means we can dictate coverage and force defenses to respond to us.

I dont have a good excuse for anything to hold our offense up. We do not lack speed or talent. My only talent concern is the rb rotation and the potential waste of explosive plays. Aside from fhat..we are who we are, and my expectation is a MINIMUM a middle of the pack offense who's able to put together drives and score the football more often than not.

Seth will either be the Renaissance man or he'll prove a lot of people right. Be intetesting to see how it all plays out.

27-20 good guys
We win with defense and a better ability to extend drives on 3rd down.

The only positive after today

Is the fact OU now knows it needs a completely different direction on offense. Sometimes it takes something this embarrassing to get that message to the AD and coach . The search for an OC should have started after the Tennessee game. But now I think Joe will get his black book and conduct a national search for a star OC to come and save Brent and the franchise from this dumpster fire .

Time to earn your pay Joe

Restart

We need to fire everyone on the offensive coaching side of the ball. We can’t block, we can’t separate and there are other freshman WR’s making massive plays. I’m not asking for massive play but just plays. We can’t run the ball. We can’t block at any position especially TE. Play calling is horrendous. Had a bye week to make a good scheme and came out with the worst option plays I’ve ever seen. Everyone on the offensive side needs to go and if they don’t then I give BV 1 more year cuz if he holds onto this offensive staff then he is making his own bed to be fired.

50 plays

So it’s being reported that over the last two weeks that Littrell installed “his” offense.
They tried to put in 50 plays. You can NOT try to do this crap in the middle of the season. Not one player knew that offense today. Just reference the play where GT pulls right and Barnes runs left.
No excuses. This should have been done in the spring. If Jackson was the qb we all thought he was, he should have been able to run it. You can’t install an offense in the middle of the season.
This stuff is what gets coaches fired and is totally on BV. I don’t get who thought it would be a good idea… maybe 15 or so plays that are bread and butter but 50?

Optimism

you know, I got drunk as probably a lot of you did last night watching that offense but I woke up today…. Rewatched the game to its entirety and if Michael Hawkins gets the start going forward I can only be very optimistic of our future schedule.

Our defense is top 3 in the country. No debate.
With Michael Hawkins going forward i think we have a few surprising wins in our future.

We still have our issues…. O line, WRs banged up, play calling, and so on but im left with optimism going forward.

One More Sobering Thought on the 2023 OC Hire

I will preface this by saying OU absolutely should’ve held a serious national search for a new OC once Lebby left last winter. At this point I don’t think anyone is arguing otherwise.

However, I think an argument can be made that BV didn’t even retain/elevate the right internal OC from the 2023 staff….

Matt Wells was hired as the Co-OC/QB coach at K State. I’m not saying Wells would’ve been the answer….BUT….their offense is ranked in the mid 40s nationally, they’ve scored at least 30 every game except one stinker against BYU, and they seemingly have built around Johnson’s strengths at QB.

This OU team would be a top 15, 8-4 caliber team with an offense ranked in the 40s. I know it isn’t apples to oranges (Big12 vs SEC), but I do think there’s a legitimate argument we didn’t even hire the right OC from our own staff. That is….something…..

Maybe KState lays an egg here tonight and this post looks stupid, but that was another thought that crossed my mind tonight regarding just how badly this entire situation has been botched.

Undisciplined

Oline has no fight in them. Defense doesn't wrap up. Little effort from half the defense the last 3 minutes of the half. Missing a makeable FG to start the game after a turnover. Eli Bowen doesn't play until texas has made our DB's look silly. "Leader" Billy Bowman missing tackles giving up chunk yards. AA Stutsman missing tackles again. Tatum doesn't touch the ball until inside the 2 minute warning. First play of the drive following a TV timeout and we still don't have our defense out on the field and set.

I never would have believed BV would allow such undisciplined play. Stubbornness keeping them from playing the best players. Yes, it was a fumble. But just watch the one carry by Tatum and you can see he is so much better than our other RB's. And Eli Bowen is our best CB but he doesn't start. He comes in and makes play after play. I'm sure Walker plays his best but he is out of position and misses tackles. He's lucky they underthrew the double pass late in the half or it would have been another TD. I'm hoping for a big 2nd half for our Sooners but the way they finished the 1st half was embarrassing.

Please, no more slow starting run plays in the backfield! And how about an audible when you see a blitz coming into the play instead of running right into it.

Question re PT for young players

Why, when we are in the middle of a beatdown by Texas, do young players like Danny Okoye, Kalen Hicks, Eugene Brooks, EPL, Reggie Powers, and a bunch of others not given some significant run? Some of these guys have not seen the field all year in spite of the fact that they can play in 4 games without losing their redshirt. It’s called player development. I don’t get it - can somebody help?
