I've been debating whether or not I wanted to waste my time writing a post on this board that is going to be ridiculed and underappreciated; however, listening to 95% of you bitch about the coaching staff and the crowd chanting "Fire BV," "BV is LOST," "we made a bad hire," etc. has just pushed me over the edge to state the obvious because it's clear that must of you don't know jack about the game and/or are simply too young and/or dumb to understand what is happening and/or what is going to happen.
For the last 10 + years (basically, since BV left) OU football has been mediocre at best. When Baker arrived we were at least good enough to win 70-69 track meets because of (and only because of) elite QB and skill position play. Nevertheless, a Charmin soft mentality has been instilled in this team and program for more than a decade. The calling card of this team during the Lincoln years has been: "don't worry, our offense will bail us out." Our deficiencies have simply been masked by 2 #1 NFL draft picks and the current NFL MVP Favorite. If we did not have Baker, Kyler, Jalen, 1 good year of Spencer and 1 good year of Caleb, this team would have been 6-6 at best every year since about 2011. You do not change that overnight.
On offense, DG is not good. It all starts and ends there. On defense, we have sucked for more than a decade; however, we no longer have a QB to bail us out. As a result, we are what we have been for the last ten years minus the elite QB play: a really shitty football team. And all of you know that to be true. If you disagree, you're lying to yourself.
You inbreeds who are calling for BV's head are absolutely moronic. That man knows more about not just football - but winning football at national championship levels - than most of you could ever dream of remotely comprehending. Is there another current college football head coach not named Saban who has more NC rings on his fingers than BV? Maybe - but I don't care to look it up. The point is, he knows what it looks like, knows what it smells like, and has won with every team he's been a part of. Do you think he just suddenly forgot how to win and install a winning mentality when he came to OU? If you think the defense is too hard do you also think it was too hard for early Clemson players? What about early 00's OU players? But it must be BV, right? GTFOH.
This team sucks, there's no denying that. And I'll tell you what - it's going to get a lot worse. This recruiting class is not going to stick and that really won't be BV's fault either. You can't blame him for the players he got stuck with this year. The way this team was left by TBOW last fall is unprecedented. And the players that were left remaining have that 10+ years of Charmin soft mentality ingrained in them. That is not BV's fault however, that reality is manifesting itself on the field and will manifest itself in recruiting. We have a couple of 2-9; 3-7 years looking at us right in the face unless this class sticks. And you know what? That's OK. This program needs to be rebuilt from the ground up and rid of the Charmin soft mentality.
I'm going to liken this situation to Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. Jim was obviously a extremely successful head coach everywhere he went: Stanford, San Francisco, et.. al. He inherited a crap, nonexistent team that perked up a bit then regressed. Fans were obviously calling for his head; however, the Admin. stuck with him because similar to BV at OU, they were aware of his passion level for and investment in the program. They also knew that similar to BV, Jim knows about winning football, you just don't forget how to do that. The main difference between JH and BV is simply this: Michigan sucked when JH arrived and there was nowhere to go but up. We have sucked for 10 plus years minus the elite QB play. We are now getting exposed for what we have been.
I guess my point is writing all of this is the following: to all of you saying "Fire BV." get your heads out of your asses. You've been the fan of a team which even on it's good days was frustrating to watch with a horrible defense combined with a Charmin-soft, high school mentality. BV knows how to win, he didn't just forget that; however, it's most likely going to get a lot rougher around here before it's gets better because the old culture needs to be completely washed away.
BV is our guy. If you can't see that, I can't help you.
