New Oklahoma offer Antoni Ogumoro has a story that is thoroughly unique

Dropped a FutureCast this morning. Once you read the quotes, I think it's pretty easy to see why. Kid's a phenomenal human being and a perfect fit at OU... and he perceives that.

FEATURE: Meet Liam Evans, the sedulous kicker who never planned on playing football

4,500 words on the Sooners' prized kicker signee. Most everyone expects this kid to do great things at Oklahoma, and it's easy to see why. Enjoy.

On Nickens and his decommitment (Wed 8:20pm)

Didn’t want to speak of it until it came to fruition, but this was very much expected. The two parties had been drifting away from one another. Not a surprise to those within the Switzer Center. Emmett Jones will have Caleb Cunningham, Andrew Marsh, Cooper Perry, Manny Choice and Quincy Porter on campus in June for official visits; there is little worry here.

DrummBeat: Sooners' spring practice team notes | What's the latest buzz heading into spring ball and more

*** Okay, so it's only been one practice as of these notes, but we also have some stuff that we have heard prior to spring ball starting, Some of it is repeat due to the same players standing out, but other bits of information is new so here we go:

*** I was talking to a source about the fastest players on the team and normal culprits of Gentry Williams, Gavin Sawchuk, Brenan Thompson and Jaquazie Pettaway were brought up. The one that struck me as a surprise the name Jayden Gibson.

Gibson is fast and I think we can agree with that, but to have him listed as a player that is 'one of the fastest on the team' was a bit of a shocker to me. Because of the sheer surprise of Gibson being named in the same breath of the other Sooners players, when talking about speed, I had to ask where he would be at in that group, and the source added, "I am not sure I would say he would beat any of them in foot race outside of the game of football, but JG has football speed. He can blaze when it comes to that. His speed translates to the game."

Another source pretty much confirmed that exact statement after practice number one, with the source saying, "J-Gib was leaving dudes in the dust during practice."

Parker and I were told that he has been equally impressive throughout winter workouts, walkthroughs and what little 7v7 the the Sooners have had up to this point. Could this be the coming out season most expected from JG since his arrival in Norman? If things keep trending the way they are, and JG keeps maturing off the field, the odds of that being the case seems to be going up.

*** We reported earlier this winter that senior defensive back Woodi Washington would be getting looks at safety and cheetah. That seemed to be the case in the early practices, with Washington playing a bit more safety than expected (will be cheetah/nickel back and CB as well) due to Billy Bowman being held out a bit due being a bit nicked up a bit to start the spring.

We are told it's not serious and that Bowman will be a full participant throughout, but it was worth noting that Washington played some safety in early portions of the practices.

*** With Woodi Washington gettin some cheetah/nickel and safety work a bit (where he will play in the NFL as well), newly added transfer CB Dez Malone has been working at one of the cornerback spots. Several sources have talked him up and said, "He has come in and taken to the culture and coaching," the source said. "(Malone) has also picked up the defense early on. If he can continue to grasp what is being asked of him technically and schematically, he will be in the rotation."

With Gentry Williams sitting out spring ball after his shoulder surgery, players like Jasiah Wagoner and Makari Vickers have been getting looks in the defensive back field and the first team. Sources say that early on, Wagoner has been getting some first team reps, but I was also told, "Vickers made some plays in team and the one-on-one's early on. He is finally healthy and started off playing well."

*** More big talk about Sooners' freshman NT Jayden Jackson. Sources continue to say he looked "further along than most in practice one, but he has also had 15 more practices than David Stone and some others." That was due to his early arrival for the Alamo Bowl practices.

Another source did add that they felt Stone was going blossom "quickly" as he gets into things. The added that Stone needs to work on being more physical, but "that comes with practice and getting more reps at the college level. This is his first go-round with that. He's still technically sound, so you add his understanding and added physicality, and you will see a really solid player in year one."

As for freshman NT Jayden Jackson, I am told that he plays "aggressive" and "just grasps things quickly."

As for the their weight come the season, sources feel Stone will be pushing 295 by then and Jackson will be "closer to 310 than 300," so that is positive for sure, with OU needing more weight on the interior DL.

*** Oh, I do want to add that freshman DT David Stone, according to a source, "was handling people" in practice one, so the hope is that he continues to pick some things up physically as the spring drags along.

*** This isn't much of a note, but freshman edge Danny Okoye was called a 'super freak' by several sources recently. Again, he is 255lbs and ran a 4.56 forty this off-season. There are lots of people around the Switzer Center that feel he will get into the rotation at a LOADED DE position before the season ends.

I thought an interesting quote from Okoye was said from him during our newcomer meeting and interviews. He was very complimentary of how OU runs things with the off-season, but said that is was the 'hardest thing he has ever done at the same time.'

Okoye went on, adding, "Coaching stations and mat drills. No one is ever going to say they are easy, but they are something you need to do. So once you do accomplish it, the sense of accomplishment it really satisfying."

Okoye also spoke about what the wanted to accomplish in his first spring ever at OU, "Just develop as much as possible. I mean, this is the first spring that I have ever been a part of, so I am not as advanced as some of these other guys," Okoye said of his first spring at OU. "But if I can advance myself, as much as possible, in the time I have given to me, I will be happy. I am sure it will pay off when the season comes and when I will be competing for a starting spot."

Okoye has also said that he has leaned on several players, including Ethan Downs, R Mason Thomas and PJ Adebawore. Okoye expanded on that by saying, "So that is the three main guys that I have made my circle," Okoye said. "There is so much experience and knowledge in that group. PJ was a true freshman not too long ago, so he is the one that I relate with the most -- and our playing styles are kind of similar. So he knows what I mean when I say certain things. Which is kind of nice to have. He was also the one who was selected for me in our big brother program. That was a big benefit to me, you know, staying up late nights and learning new calls and stuff. It's been nice to have someone like that in your corner, whenever you need it."

Needless to say, the growth that people and sources have talked about with him has been Okoye leaning on the elders in the DE room and that isn't lost on the staff either. I am told they have noticed Okoye's maturity and willingness to do what is asked and more so far.

*** Speaking of DE, the talk about transfer edge rusher Caiden Woullard continues to pickup. He is 261 pounds and has really taken to everything early on. Lots of expectations with Woullard after a 9.5 sack junior year and Miami (OH).

*** Finally, PT and I were told QB1 Jackson Arnold and freshman QB Michael Hawkins, both, looked good in team sessions and drills during practice number one.

Casey Thompson will compete fully after the spring, but he will do all but team contact this spring. That means he will throw in one-on-ones and run all the drills with the QBs. Just can’t do team when there is contact with pads, etc.

*** At WR, newcomer Deion Burkes looked good. He is as fast as advertised, according to sources.

*** Bauer Sharp and Joshua Fanuiel looked good at TE in practice one.

*** I will add more information as the spring moves along, but did want to get this information up early.

Four-star DB Marcus Wimberly updates recruitment with several visits on tap

Man... from where I stand, I'd just take this kid and put the full-court press on Jonah Williams. But then again, I'm not Elite Recruiter Brandon Hall. What happens with Omarion Robinson will likely go a long way in dictating whether Wimberly lands in Norman. Either way, OU leads for this kid's services and he's been pretty candid about that.

LIVE: Millwood (2025 4-star commit Jaden Nickens) @ Heritage Hall (2024 commit Andy Bass)

Myself and Parker are here at the game where Sooners 2024 commit Andy Bass (HH Chargers) and 2025 4-star commit Jaden Nickens are on both sides.

Bass just had a 91-yard TD run called back and two plays later completed a 89-yard TD pass to have HH go up 13-0 with 03:04 left in first quarter.

Nickens has yet to touch the field. Source told me he will in the second quarter. You all take that for what you will. I’m not gonna speculate as to why but it has to trivial and to make a point with it just being the 2025 4-star sitting out one quarter.

Parker and I will update this thread throughout the night.

Cydney Sanders, Kelly Maxwell shine in Sooners' wins over Tarleton State

Takeaways, notes from the Sooners' easy sweep over Tarleton State.

The latest on Porter Moser and the situation within the hoops program

Despite last night’s overtime victory against Cincinnati that should all but clinch a tournament berth for Oklahoma, there is still plenty of noise beneath the surface about the potential of Porter Moser’s departure. Several sources confirmed to me yesterday that Moser is the A1 target for DePaul, and that Moser himself has continued to reciprocate the interest.

We had previously reported that OU sources felt something was just “off” within the program, and that remains the case, even as the Sooners coast towards a spot in the field of 68. DePaul is not the only job Moser’s name has been connected to, but the possibility of Moser to DePaul has generated more buzz than any other potential landing spot for the Sooners’ head coach. It is surprising given the fact that DePaul is twenty years removed from its most recent tournament appearance, but understandable given Moser’s roots in Chicago and his Catholic faith. DePaul also has a large sum of money set aside for its next basketball coach, from what I have gathered. But Moser’s flirtations with the Blue Demons are not the only reason sources close to the program are concerned.

It is worth noting that Moser’s first two offseasons as Oklahoma head basketball coach have been marked by a lot of roster and staff turnover. In fact, only three members of the roster and/or staff have lasted all three years with Moser: analytics director Dylan Mihalke, strength coach Bryce Daub and Moser’s own son Jake, a walk-on guard. In conversations with sources, I have come to understand that even if Moser does remain at Oklahoma, he’ll be dealing with another round of substantial turnover this coming offseason. Those sources have indicated that multiple key contributors are likely bound for the transfer portal, due largely to what could be called philosophical differences with their head coach.

Essentially, there are two probable outcomes here. Either Moser will return for Year 4 at Oklahoma and have to rebuild much of his roster once again, or he will jump on the coaching carousel and head elsewhere. If he does elect to depart for DePaul (or any other job), it’s likely that Oklahoma would target Kellen Sampson to fill the vacancy. We will keep you members updated with more information as it becomes available.

An injury note ahead of Oklahoma's matchup against TCU (Update Wed 11:30am)

The Sooners will be without both Rivaldo Soares (ankle) and John Hugley (knee) for tomorrow’s matchup against TCU. In addition to these two injuries, Javian McCollum, who missed last Tuesday’s game against Cincinnati but played on Saturday against Texas, reaggravated that injury in practice today and will be a game-time decision heading into this game. Regardless of McCollum’s status, Maks Klanjscek will see a substantial amount of minutes. If McCollum were to miss, which is still uncertain, it remains unclear who Porter Moser and the Sooners will turn to. Possibilities include looking to Kaden Cooper, shifting Luke Northweather to the four and playing Yaya Keita, or opting for a seven-man rotation. Once again, McCollum is a game-time decision, making this situation worth monitoring. The game is scheduled for 2:00 pm, and you can watch it on ESPN+.

Update (Wed 11:30am)

I do not expect McCollum to play in this game.

The Sooners fall 14-5 to their Bedlam foe in Norman

Coming off of a sweep against the UCF Knights, Skip Johnson and the Sooners looked to continue their hot streak against Oklahoma State. Keep in mind, this game does not count as a Big 12 conference game.

Oklahoma State wasted no time getting their offense going. Jaxson Crull lead the game off with a single to center field, then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Carson Benge then singled to move Crull to third base. Crull then scored on an infield single from Aidan Meola. After a hit by pitch to Colin Brueggeman, Tyler Wulfert doubled off the center field wall with the bases loaded to score two more Cowboy baserunners. The next pitch, Kollin Ritchie blasted a three-run home run to give the Cowboys a 6-0 lead. After giving up a walk to Avery Ortiz, Sooner starter Will Carsten was removed from the game after only getting one out. Carter Campbell came in to replace him. In his second at bat of the inning, Jaxson Crull laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Ortiz and give the pokes a 7-0 lead.

The Sooners responded with some offense of their own in the bottom of the first. John Spikerman was hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to third on a single from Bryce Madron. Anthony Mackenzie reached base via a walk. Sooner third baseman Michael Snyder came through with a two-run single against OSU starter Ryan Bogusz to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Pokes.

In the bottom of the second, Aidan Meola got on base with a one-out single. He advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Meola then scored on an error to third base that went through Michael Snyder's legs to tack on one more run for the Pokes and make it 8-2.

Carter Campbell gave up one more run in the top of the fourth by an RBI single from Carson Benge. The Pokes stretched their lead to 9-2. Campbell was replaced by true freshman Brad Pruett. The first pitch that Brad Pruett was a two-run home run by Tyler Wulfert to make it 11-2.

After the Pokes loaded the bases against Pruett in the top of the fifth, he was taken out of the game and Jett Lodes replaced him. Lodes was able to get out of that jam without allowing any runs.

In the bottom of the fifth, Sooners loaded the bases after a walk to Jaxon Willits, a single by Bryce Madron, and a hit by pitch from Anthony Mackenzie. Michael Snyder walked to score Willits, making it 11-3. Jackson Nicklaus followed that up with a walk of his own to bring home Madron. The Sooners still trailed 11-4. The Sooners added one more run in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice from Bryce Madron that scored Jaxon Willits.

The Pokes added two more in the top of the seventh on an two RBI single from Jaxon Crull. This gave them a 13-5 lead. Colin Brueggemann homered to center field in the top of the eighth inning against Sooner reliever Jayce Miner, which stretched the Poke lead to 14-5.

That ended the scoring for the game and the Sooners fell to Oklahoma State with a final score of 14-5 and their record moves to 9-6.

The Sooners will play tomorrow at 6:00 PM against UT-Arlington in Arlington.

Oklahoma makes a phenomenal impression on 2026 DE Hunter Higgins

Got a real good feeling about this one. I've pulled the trigger on a FutureCast, as a matter of fact.
