Field Vision: Offensive Spring Practice Notes

We are digging more on this and the Sooners’ chances, but getting Topui on campus would be another big visitor for Todd Bates and company.

A YouTube Suggestion

I'm watching your latest Live Stream and you're mentioning the information on Floyd Bouchard that is over at OU Insider. I'm obviously a member because I'm posting here. You often mention that there is secret information that folks need to subscribe and head to the Board for. Often times, though, I don't know what to search for or I just forget what you referenced when I finally get over here. I am reading many posts but I'm sure I'm missing a bunch as well.

Not to suggest you guys do a lot more work but I'm wondering if it made sense to do a video podcast that can be posted inside the forums where you can speak freely. This may be a short video (approx. 15 minutes) but would have all the secret information that you only want subscribers to get (at least first). All the regular info would be left to the regular pod and live stream. You could have this "secret" video unlisted in YouTube so non-subscribers would not find it. Because it would be unlisted and behind the paywall, maybe you'd also share some of the juicy nuggets that you hit about but don't post even on the Board.

Keep up the great work!

Note on a pending decision for a four-star DL (Tue 1:35pm)

Look, everyone expects this one to go A&M’s way tomorrow. That’s not why I bring Rink up. I bring this up to remind you that — as I reported last week — OU had a shockingly large NIL sum set aside for Rink until last Tuesday. That sum could suddenly be reallocated elsewhere.

Very relevant in light of the recent FutureCast avalanche — in OU’s favor — for a certain 2025 target.

Three-star DT Christian Evans goes in-depth on OU and his visit plans

Incredibly mature and well-spoken kid. Is he a take all the way? Right now, I'd say no, because Oklahoma is still on top for Kole Briehler and pushing very hard for Floyd Boucard. But if they wind up taking Evans, I don't think anyone in the Switzer Center will be slapping their knees and ruing the situation.

A very notable coaching staff nugget (Mon 8:20am)

Here’s a tidbit that will be of interest to you members.

Multiple sources have indicated to us that DeMarco Murray isn’t the only Oklahoma assistant that’s been pursued as of late by one of college football’s blue-blood programs. We’re told that Michigan — which is making big-money moves galore right now — offered Miguel Chavis a substantial pay increase to come to Ann Arbor and coach their defensive line. The Wolverines are in search of a replacement for Greg Scruggs, who resigned last week after an OWI arrest. Chavis shares some network connections with Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, which helped solidify the Sooners’ defensive ends coach as a strong candidate for the position at UM.

You shouldn’t hear any strong public buzz about this, though, because we’re told it was addressed rather expediently. Chavis made it clear to Oklahoma that he would prefer to stay put, and the administration moved quickly to make some improvements to his contractual situation. He won’t be going anywhere.

This means that every one of OU’s on-field assistants with any sort of tenure (i.e., Seth Littrell and Zac Alley excluded) has received at least one job offer elsewhere in the P4 or NFL ranks this offseason. Some of those offers have been reported and some haven’t. But every single one of those assistants, without exception, has been pursued (and offered more money) by a viable suitor. And in every case, Oklahoma has retained the services of the coach in question. The OU administration isn’t playing patty-cake with contracts. And it certainly helps that, in the words of one source, “these guys want to be with Coach V.”

I would say it’s quite a feather in Chavis’ cap that after just two years as an on-field assistant, he had the chance to coach the defensive line for the reigning national champions. And what’s even more impressive is that his devotion to Oklahoma ultimately overrode any ambitions he had about that opportunity. The Sooners got ‘em a good one.
