NIL ON3

Bro have y'all ever looked at the "average NIL" on team ranking ON3 website? All the big times programs are in the 150k-200k range and OU is sitting at 50k.

I know it's talked about all the time but to see the averages on paper was interesting. Pretty cool the standard they have and that they're still able to get top 10 classes without giving into over spending. This staff has done such a great job.

NCAA increases size of Football rosters for 2024 to 120

According to the following article, the overall roster limit has recently been increased from 110 to 120 players.

NCAA issues a blanket waiver to increase the number of players on rosters for 2024

More players could soon suit up for the Oklahoma Sooners and other Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision schools across the country. There was a limit of 110 student-athletes who may engage in practice activities before the school’s first day of classes or before the fifth day before the school’s first game, whichever occurs earlier.

But that will change for the 2024 season.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, the NCAA is issuing a blanket waiver for FBS and FCS teams to increase the preseason practice/fall camp roster from 110 to 120 players. The temporary waiver will be in effect for this season, and the Football Oversight Committee and D1 Council will consider a permanent policy this summer.

It’s effective for the 2024 season but FB Oversight and D1 Council will consider a permanent policy this summer.

In addition to that change, the NCAA said, the waiver will start the process of removing the rule that allows the replacement of a student-athlete. Spring practice is underway across the country as teams prepare for the 2024 season. There’s also a transfer portal window set to open in April, and the expectation is there will be plenty of movement when that time comes.

It’s unclear why this change was implemented now and if it means more scholarship players or 10 additional walk-ons. I would assume it’s more walk-ons but it isn’t clear if that is the case.

For Oklahoma, this could mean it gets very active in the transfer portal. If it can get guys to help on the field, that would be preferred, but I could see Oklahoma going after good veteran locker room guys. Maybe that’s a former captain or something of that nature.

It could also mean some guys you thought would hit the portal or that Oklahoma was going to push toward the portal due to a numbers crunch, no longer will. For now, we have to wait and see.

Spring game preview: 6 players who can boost their 2024 stock

I took a look at six different players — three offensive and three defensive — who could boost their 2024 stock with standout performances on Saturday.

It's impossible to list everybody, but these are six guys in particular that I'll be keeping an eye on.

Troy Everett injury question

I know he has an injury to his knee and needed surgery, but I have not been able to find out what kind of injury he had or the expected recovery time. Is it an ACL, broken bone, torn muscle? I know BV said he would be back by Fall Camp, but other outsiders think that is too optimistic. How do we know that if we don't know what the exact injury is? Is anyone in the know as to what his injury is?

DrummBeat: Reminder on TE visiting this week…

A few weeks ago we reported that 2025 four-star TE Da’Saahn Brame would be visiting for the Sooners’ spring game. However, that date has since been pushed up to April 18th (tomorrow), per multiple sources and Brame reaching out to me today.

On the note of the spring game, Brame told me this morning that plans changed and that he will be just at the practice Thursday, BUT that he will also be back for an official visit later on this summer.

Oregon still seems to be a tough out here, but Oklahoma sources seem to feel as if they have more swings to make and more pushes in a variety of ways (you can figure that out I'm sure) before decision time for Brame.

I will be setting up to speak with Brame post the Sooners’ visit tomorrow, so I will hopefully have more regarding Oklahoma and their four-star TE target post visit.

How have Jayden Jackson and David Stone looked this spring?

I compiled some of the notable quotes from Brent Venables and players about the true freshman duo.

The first glimpse of Jackson and Stone is just five days away.

Christian Thatcher, Mozee, etc.

@Brandon Drumm @Parker Thune There’s still a FutureCast for Thatcher to OU. Is that still a thing? Or has that bird flown the nest? Also one for Isaiah Mozee and Jaden Nickens (decommited) what’s up with that? Just curious. Lastly, I know Dawson Merritt is a “hopeful” at LB. Who else is a possibility at LB for ‘25 class? Thanks all u guys do!

Blake Griffin retires after illustrious 14-year NBA career

Blake Griffin, one of the best players in Oklahoma basketball history, is hanging 'em up after 14 years in the NBA.

Dakotah Terrell Tidbit (UPDATED)

Oklahoma offered 2025 Pocola (Okla.) ATH today. A very interesting prospect given that he is 6-foot-9, 215 pounds. He can play WR, TE, and DE. Michigan offered last week as a TE.

I exchanged a few texts with Terrell following the new Oklahoma offer and I asked what position the offer was for.

He replied, "I don't even know."

I'm sure we will have a better understanding soon on where the Sooners like him but the offer came from BV. Terrell expressed his interest in picking up the in-state offers when we spoke last week. So this was an offer he was hoping to get.

UPDATE: Terrell tells me Oklahoma is at the top of his list now that he holds the offer. BUT, he tells me he wants to play both football and basketball at the next level. Says he does not have an offer from OU in basketball, but did talk about the idea with BV on his visit. Will be an interesting situation to watch play out.

Ryan Fodje ranking when offered?

@Parker Thune @Brandon Drumm Do you know where Rivals (or anyone else) had Ryan Fodje was ranked when we offered? I just saw a tweet that On3 has given the OL commit a second big jump in their rankings. He's up nearly 100 spots to 65! Wimberly also made a massive jump from unranked to 148.

It seems to be a theme over the last few years that our talent evaluators find underrated kids, offer, and watch them rise in the rankings. (R. Mason, PJ, JFA, Eugene Brooks, Gillmore to name a few.) To that point, I think that would be a cool article: highlighting the kids that we offered when they were ranked low and made big jumps. 3 STAR U! ; )
