What is to come regarding Vickers and Deion Burks?

Now that it has came out that it was weed and alcohol with Vikers and drinking and driving with Burks. Do they miss some games? When do they start practice again to get more intel? When will we hear from BV again? Also heard there was a third incident with a Ou player accused of something but not charged. Parker and Brandon what do you think is to come of all of this

DrummBeat: Jaden O'Neal note

I do think this one is over by July 7th. Not saying that is the date. A announcement could come sooner than that, "over the next week or two," according to a source around O'Neal. But that is O'Neal's place to put out there -- not mine.

As for the 12 pm announcement today, we are told that we should not expect THE announcement just yet. Just relaying what I have heard. Could be a top schools list (if I was a betting man). Again, if we are being thrown off, it wouldn't be the first time, but I don't see O'Neal or his people doing that so I would temper excitement... FOR NOW.

Ironically, O'Neal already had a zoom call set up to do a very cool 'Know Your Croot' type of interview for today, so all of this is starting to play out well for us at OUinsider, and also you the consumer/member.

More after I speak with elite 2026 QB, but I did want pass along what is being relayed to myself and Parker as of today.

Stay tuned for the O'Neal interview that will deep-dive into his hobbies, background, how he became a QB and ending with how recruiting and visits have gone so far. Maybe even get a date for his final decision as well -- who knows?

Brent Venables' Recruiting Strategy

Ever since we learned about BV's recruiting strategy upon his arrival in Norman, I've been curious to see how successful it would be. I recently looked up the number of recruits who have decommitted since 2023. I didn't include the recruits from the 2023 class who decommitted when TBOW left. Here are the numbers from the 2023, 2024, and so far in the 2025 classes.

OU: 7 (4 in 2023)
Georgia: 17 (7 in 2023 alone)
USC: 14 (4 this year already)
Ohio State: 12
Oregon: 9
Texas: 9
LSU: 12
ND: 14 (8 in 2023)

Alabama is difficult to assess. They had five total decommits in 2023 and 2024, but I didn't count the ones after Saban left in 2025. However, it seems like BV's strategy is effective.

Boom! Sooners land 2025 Rivals150 WR Marcus Harris | Added note on WR numbers for 2025 class

Oklahoma with a big start to the week after 2025 WR Marcus Harris not only makes a spur-of-the-moment visit to Oklahoma, but also commits to the Sooners.

As Parker alluded to last week, this thing came together quickly and WR coach Emmett Jones flexed his muscle by getting Oklahoma back into Mater Dei, one of the best HS programs in the nation.

The addition of Harris joins Rivals250 WR Elijah Thomas and dual-sport ATH Gracen Harris in style Sooners’ WR class. All three are four-stars in the 2025 class.

*** As far as numbers go, I was told yesterday that OU would “like to take four to six WR in this class,” a source said.

With Andrel Anthony and Jalil Farooq out of eligibility after this season, along with Nic Anderson, Deion Burks and Jayden Gibson all having ability to go pro after this season, Coach Jones and [Seth] Littrell would like to have some upcoming talent and depth in place.

Now, I think five is more likely than six WRs in the 2025 class, but if things fall right in recruiting — and possibly the portal — there is a world where OU can add up to six new WRs on the roster, heading into the 2025 season.

Something we will be watching as OU looks to host more four-star WRs this weekend.

DrummBeat: Note on five-star OL after OV this weekend

Okay, have yet to speak directly to 2025 five-star OL Michael Fasusi, but I have him, Jaden O’Neal and a few others that I will be talking with over the next day or two.

All that said, I did speak to a few sources on Fasusi and the visit with Oklahoma this weekend. The reviews were more positive than even I expected, but again, that’s OU’s side of this.

On the Sooners’ chances with the 5-star Lewisville (TX) OL, it feels like OU and Texas will be battling this one out, according to a few sources and their gut feeling following the OV this weekend.

“(OU) and Texas feel like the leader for [Michael] Fasusi,” the source told OUinsider. “Things seemed to have went good enough that (Oklahoma) made up a lot of much-needed ground on the OV.”

Another source told OUinsider, “Feel good about it. Better than (OU) did before the visit… much, much better, actually. Worried about Texas, but it’s not the feeling of looking up at them like (OU) was doing.”

Oklahoma will also be willing to play the NIL game here. They know a player this position and his talent will garner some big numbers.

Again, I’d temper some of the positivity a bit. However, Oklahoma is starting to feel like they can land Fasusi if a few things work in their favor. The five-star still has (potentially) Oregon and Texas (next weekend) left on the docket, and with that, there is a sense that Fasusi may start to grow a bit weary of the travel and visits.

That is not a sure thing, but it’s something worth paying attention to down the stretch.

All in all, a good weekend and one I hope to get some full quotes from Fasusi before too long to add to what is in these notes.

Stay tuned.
