This Game Was 100% Winnable.

From the first drive of the game this game was in OU’s hands. The coaches had every opportunity to call the plays necessary to win this game. You can put some things on player execution but, as a coach you know what you have to work with, your weaknesses, strengths, and the other team weaknesses and strengths.

There’s no excuse this game ended 34-3.
Extremely poor coaching on offense. All institutional issues come from leadership.

Change needs to happen.

D.G 373 total yards 3 td's over the Ohio st is an indictment on Venables coaching decisions

I was behind Venables 100% as of Friday. Today I would jump for joy if he came out and left OU or if Joe C decided to fire the entire staff.. I know many went along with with Venables decision because you also though D.G was good...but good enough to lead any team to a natty. D.G will take Oregon to 12-0 and possibly all the way. To let possibly the 2024 heisman walk out the door and take the 2 highly recruited qb's with one of the worst offensive coordinators to serve at OU...And as of Sunday morning.. I see neither QB going forward at OU and being successful. I see a 5-7 record and it's likely a bonus that OU doesn't go to a bowl and catch another Arizona that would surely embarrass OU like Texas did yesterday.

Hate to say it but I told you so

You know before the Auburn game I had mentioned that Hawk wasn't going to be a saving grace because of how bad this offensive staff is, and well it turned out to be true.

I just have so many questions with how things are ran on the offense. How can you come out of a bye week and look that bad? Let's start with play calling because it was about as worse as it's been all season long. We continue to run baffling plays, we are running an option with Hawk and he looks timid and unsure of what he's supposed to do. We wait till the 4th quarter to attempt more than 3 passes 10 yards or more in length? Did you expect to win by throwing the ball at the line of scrimmage every play? The formations are even worse, running 2 backs in the shotgun with a TE and 2 WR just baffles me man. The plays are predictable, so predictable that Texas brings up their safety's and continue to blitz them with no adjustment or audible. You would think with them cheating up the whole game that would open some things up for us but it just doesn't, like DMAC says there's no swagger and no identity with this offense at all. Also do we even practice on offense? It looks like we're just throwing together a pickup group from the YMCA out there. Hawk played scared, he continued to leave the pocket way before he needed to. I'll probably get hate for this but at least Jackson stays in the pocket and tries to throw the ball more than 10 yards.

I am honestly surprised they didn't put Jackson back in at the 4 minute mark of the 4th Quarter, what else do you have to lose at that point? It's crazy to me how these other programs can have the same issues we do but their offense so much better than ours. Or they can bring a QB in that's never even played and they just light it up. That screams one thing to me and that's bad coaching.

Our LB's and DB's outside of Little Bowen were terrible today. Peyton constantly left his zone in the middle and it opened up for big plays in the middle of the field. He constantly flowed to his left when he didn't need to. Kani couldn't tackle anyone. Vickers looked like he hadn't played a down of football all year and it showed. Texas really didn't look great to me in all honesty, our Offense is just that bad. As bad as Lebby was sometimes (personally costing us 2 games) his offense at least had an identity. Look at Van Buren from MS State he lit up Georgia yesterday in his second start. We need a new OC period. Need a new TE coach Period end of discussion. I don't think BV deserves to be on the hot seat he's personally made the defense fun to watch again. However if he does not get this next hire at OC right there should absolutely be talk of him being on the hot seat.

That's all I have for now, just an humiliating loss again. I'm sick of watching this defense play their heart out just for the offense to not even try.

Play calling

At the very least, take away SL’s play calling. It’s just atrocious. I realize we don’t have much to go on past that and we have a talent issue but, maybe some fresh ideas. Then next year look for something different. We need a different philosophy on offense. I watch teams like Penn St, Boise St. he’ll even K-State and they have a better idea of what they are on offense.

Well, OU vs UT is typically played on my birthday weekend so woke up another year older today with a few more gray hairs after watching yesterday’s game.

To elaborate for the board on my twitter post, I’ve heard a lot of “the shots were there and Hawkins didn’t take them. That’s on him.”

The answer to that is yes, and also no. It is the coach’s job to identify the inability to execute deep throws, especially after a bye week, and create a plan, provide the coaching points that ensures execution.

There was very little counter to Texas’ adjustments and some of the things that did work did not continue to be pressed until Texas could stop them.

Scoring 3 points in the Cotton Bowl is absolutely inexcusable.

This performance also makes me feel less crazy about my evaluation on Jackson Arnold. He is a talented player and it is possible that there are just things being misidentified and improperly coached in order to ensure success.

More to come on the podcast

OU went away from a Passing Attack, just like. ......

Switzer did with the Wishbone back in the day. We were used to running it, then we switched to the i formation. It was a disaster.

Fast Forward to 2024, we are in THE SEC, we have lost some talent, players, and our coaching is on par with John Blake having Joe D trout out some fools gold.

This experiment is over, BV doesn't replace these clowns, he's finished @ Oklahoma. We have to can SL, JJF and DeMarco at least, their horrible

WE HAVE TO GO GET A PASSING OC, that knows Defenses

Three points? Seriously?

BV asked for three years, and this is what he delivered. I understand Hawkins is a freshman, I understand the Oline is pathetic, I understand the WRs are backups, but three points? Totally unacceptable. Houston, Tulane etc. could have scored more than three points. I realize this won't be popular but he needs to go back to JA. He can move through the progressions faster and possibly see things better than Hawkins at this point. And the talent level compared to Texas, especially on offense is glaring. Texas is huge, fast. Excellent WRs. They were more physical than OU. That RB repeatedly ran through Stutsman, McKenzie and Kip. My guess is Littrell is gone after this season and JA transfers. What a waste of recruiting a QB. I don't see anything that leads me to believe things will improve fast. They has two weeks to prepare for Texas and yesterday is what was served up. OU might go 5-7 this season. Although the defense is better than it has been, overall the team has regressed under BV.

Can someone explain this to me?

So idk if anyone has noticed but we do not “scheme” anyone open ever. i’m sitting here watching texas do that exact thing w all this motion and stuff to get the defense off balance and get people open. but then we go out and it kinda seems like we just line up and run at them. does anyone w more knowledge of play concepts/calls etc … have an opinion??

My second question is after making lebby the highest paid OC in the country for two years a QB coach/Great player caller to perfectly match BV… but then he leaves and for some reason when he leaves we don’t go back out and hire again like we’ve already done successfully … instead we hire two guys that don’t even replace what lebby was here to do?? (coach QBs) so ig what i’m asking is what changed?

Momentum is Real

Momentum is huge!!
Biggest play of the game was when Stutsman allowed the Texas WR that hustled his as off to recover that fumble !!!
But, with the OL and the constant run Hawkins it was bad. I was pissed and wanted JA for downfield throws and believe he deserved a shot. Only because Hawkins was taking too many hits and the season is long!!
Arm talking not wrapping up defensive football when the game was tight!!
Gosh damn I’m disgusted!!!!

Sink or swim...no pressure

I won't be the first to say this, but I do want to unequivocally position myself along the lines of: our offense needs to show balance, depth, creativity and the ability to build upon and plan Saturday..or else.

I've just seen too many games where teams with inequitable talent have played well...and even dominated teams/defenses with a major advantage on the other side of the ball. Vandy and Boise immediately come to mind (although that kid at RB may be the best rb I've seen in 5 or so years).

The oline is healthy..as healthy as can be. The wrs are not a shock anymore. The pups have played a ton and should not be afraid of the moment. We've identified our qb of the future AND he's a true dual qb, which means we can dictate coverage and force defenses to respond to us.

I dont have a good excuse for anything to hold our offense up. We do not lack speed or talent. My only talent concern is the rb rotation and the potential waste of explosive plays. Aside from fhat..we are who we are, and my expectation is a MINIMUM a middle of the pack offense who's able to put together drives and score the football more often than not.

Seth will either be the Renaissance man or he'll prove a lot of people right. Be intetesting to see how it all plays out.

27-20 good guys
We win with defense and a better ability to extend drives on 3rd down.

The only positive after today

Is the fact OU now knows it needs a completely different direction on offense. Sometimes it takes something this embarrassing to get that message to the AD and coach . The search for an OC should have started after the Tennessee game. But now I think Joe will get his black book and conduct a national search for a star OC to come and save Brent and the franchise from this dumpster fire .

Time to earn your pay Joe

Restart

We need to fire everyone on the offensive coaching side of the ball. We can’t block, we can’t separate and there are other freshman WR’s making massive plays. I’m not asking for massive play but just plays. We can’t run the ball. We can’t block at any position especially TE. Play calling is horrendous. Had a bye week to make a good scheme and came out with the worst option plays I’ve ever seen. Everyone on the offensive side needs to go and if they don’t then I give BV 1 more year cuz if he holds onto this offensive staff then he is making his own bed to be fired.

50 plays

So it’s being reported that over the last two weeks that Littrell installed “his” offense.
They tried to put in 50 plays. You can NOT try to do this crap in the middle of the season. Not one player knew that offense today. Just reference the play where GT pulls right and Barnes runs left.
No excuses. This should have been done in the spring. If Jackson was the qb we all thought he was, he should have been able to run it. You can’t install an offense in the middle of the season.
This stuff is what gets coaches fired and is totally on BV. I don’t get who thought it would be a good idea… maybe 15 or so plays that are bread and butter but 50?
