If you're waiting on Gibson, you're going to be very disappointed. History across all football levels, from youth to high school, to college to pro, is filled with examples of guys who are big, fast, strong and even smart, but can't catch a cold. The most important thing in any position room is particular to the position. But in the receiver room, foremost, is that you have to consistently CTDB. That is Catch The Damn Ball. In competition, his fundamentals are deplorable. He may make some catches, even spectacularly in practice, but he is the prime example of a guy who the phrase "He's a DB because he can't catch." But he's not a "db type."
I think you'll see several young guys excell this year, plus two old guys. And we might be really good at tight end if those guys, at least two of them, can get and stay healthy. But I'm discouraged by the inability of our receivers across the board to be able to get open. That's why young guys often aren't quality players, as athletic as they might be. Getting open is about a lot of things. But a lot of it is about being smart. The smartest receivers will play, even if they aren't all of big, fast and strong. They will understand defenses, and get to the places where they can get open. But mostly, they will consistently, CTDB.
