What we learned on Saturday

Kyler running did not scare me as much as Baker. That guy would run and I would hold my breath. Glad Kyler feels comfortable taking off at times. Think he will break some big runs later in conference play...against shorthorns would be a great time for one. Hope Sermon gets back in groove too. Looks like he is getting there.

Well heck the possibilities are that they could lose every game. But the probability is that they won't. OU has some work to do, no doubt. But the season is young and so are some of the freshman starters on defense. They'll learn & grow.

My question was who beats them. Not the possibilities of who may beat them.
I don't see any of the teams on the schedule beating OU unless serious injuries at a key position(s) occurs. At this point in the season though, I don't see them winning a playoff game.
How the hell can anyone know the future ?
Everything now is only a possibility, not a probability.
You're reaching, again.

Having read all of the concerns posted in this thread... I have one serious question regarding the balance of the 2018 schedule.

Who do you have beating the Sooners?
Well, I'm guessing TCU and WVU.

TCU has good Offensive players at the skill positions, and good line play. I don't see us winning unless we make some significant improvements on D. And, well, MS...

Haven't seen WVU play but they're at home, so....

No sir, I'm not reaching. I read several bloom & doom posts and I'm just curious as to who you think will beat OU that is listed on the schedule. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I don't see any of the B12 confused teams beating OU this year. They may drop a game, but I don't see it as of right now. They've looked good.

I think Lincoln can call a game to outscore them. They don't have the depth to keep up in a major shoot out.

I answered with those games I thought were possible defeats, which aren’t about gloom and doom. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Fresno St scored just about as much on offense against UCLA as OU did. Their defense held them to 7 less points. Fresno defense held them to < 150 yards receiving and around 100 on the ground. OU allowed 129 rushing and 254 receiving. Good to know OUr defense has Fresno st to aspire to. MS should be proud. And if I'm not mistaken, it was a home game for UCLA.
We have 150 plus yards on the final 2 drives of the game. Their starters against our 3 and 4th stringers. Not to mention if you watched the game, you could see UCLA quit on Kelly.

I guess we played our 3rd and 4th stringers today. Giving up 342 yards rushing to a team that you know is going to run, one of Mike's finest games. Liberty held them to 449, Duke held them to 168 and Hawaii to 306. Either we have inferior athletes or Mike is inept.

In OU's case, this (lack of smarts) will be its downfall as the season plays out.

Case in point: Marquise Brown wore a Tyreek Hill jersey pre-game.

I'm glad I got to see last nights game on PPV. That was an agonizing classic. It's what Big 8 vs. Big 12 would look like. Sooners version 1988 would have their way with Sooners version 2018. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Army execute as they did. Glad the Sooners had enough to win.

For those that say this was an anomaly and sky is not falling, I say stick it. Jack In Box has not turned the corner. He is a stubborn and pathetic coach that needs to be sent to a FCS school where his weak schemes might work. The idiot just threw up his hands and ran the same defense Army practices against. That nugget from postgame sheds light on Jack In Box having terrible intel and preparation.

I threw in my Apollo 13 quote as a jest to say welcome back to the past; it was refreshing for a friend and some of the family sitting around the dinner table, listening and watching the radio e-cast and the game tracker and having real eye to eye conversations in the 21st century.

WHY NOT SAYS: At this point in the season though, I don't see them winning a playoff game.

Agreed. OU has enough to win the Big 12 .... but not enough defense to win a national championship.

I don't expect them to have a top 10 defense this year. But i do expect steady improvement over the next few years.

I don't see that happening.

I didn't pay to watch the game. Did we only have 7 in the box or did we go with 8 in the box on defense? In my opinion I think that on defense against schools like Army you need to put 9 in the box and dare them to throw the football.

Scares me to death when Kyler starts running but, in an interview after the game apparently the kid was loving all the Qb runs being called. I do love it when he slides safely though.

I don't. In the tight game versus Army he was sliding before a 1st down within reach and then on his last run might have scored or gotten closer to the goal line if he tried to juke, but slid without the defender having a lock on him.

Him sliding versus juking for more could be the difference in a big game this year. Hell, Baker used to haul @$$ down field just to make a block....

Army had the smarts but not the athletes.

Agree completely CT. I was at the game. I recall several times seeing OU in a two deep safety look and I am thinking what in the hell is going on. I coached high school football many years ago and I can tell you that you absolutely must get your safetys up in the alley to defend the triple option. Remember 2015 against Texas we played the two deep safeties against Texas with Jerod Heard (sp?) at QB who was a running QB. Texas won because they were able to RUN THE BALL. Mike Stoops is a miserable failure as a DC. I will be at the Baylor game this next week. I will sit in Stadium and hope that we score every time we have the ball. If we don’t then it will be a close game because of our pathetic defense
?

This is correct. What's strange is one of the times that OU actually stopped them was when they threw on first down and did not complete it. First & 10 came back to haunt them and they actually punted. They never threw again until it was 3rd or 4th down.
