Week 11 Polls...

I can see Georgia beating Bama and they both get in assuming Bama does not lose before then . Bama clinched the sec west last night so they are in the sec title game. That leaves 2 spots, if anyone above us wins out we are done but its never that easy. Lots of football left to play.

My comments are mostly wishful thinking. Defense wins championships. I can see Clemson, Michigan and/or Bama playing for the title. Lincoln will never field a championship defense unless he makes sweeping changes in his D staff. He is too attached to McNeil who is average at best. Riley also has no masterful control over this team. He is a not a disciplinarian in the true sense of the word. CeeDee put us in a hole and cost us points on the board and I fear there will be no reprisal for his actions. Ford did the same thing. I kept hearing Toby talk about the coaches referring to Ford playing "hot". Sit their asses down until they cool off!!! Watch a Saban coached team and see if they get an excessive celebration penalty in the end zone for some bullshit display of hand dapping. Having a #2 ranked offense and #60 defense speaks volumes.

Great post, SS.
Unless Riley takes hot headed players behind closed doors and chews them out for their tantrums on the field....or benches them, what we saw on Saturday is going to continue. Lamb could be a real problem if his behavior is allowed to go unchallenged. He is a franchise caliber talent with what appears to be an out-of-control sense of entitlement. His behavior needs to be reeled in.
I'm fed up with people referring to hot headed athletes as just being "emotional". It reflects badly on the team and its coaches....and as evident on Saturday, it is potentially a factor in the outcome of a game.
Imagine the anger we would be feeling now if Texas Tech had won the game, with Lamb's and Ford's anger the deciding factor.

Because Offense in the Arena League wins Conference Championships not Defense. OU seems to only care about winning the Big 12 not National Titles. So what if OU has or is about to break offensive records, if you cannot stop the other team then the only alternative is to outscore them. I know OU will need time to fix the mess that is the defense but why in the hell did it take so long to take action?
Ruffin McNeil is not the answer but I will be shocked if he is not promoted at seasons end to DC. God I hope he is not.

Don't get me wrong friends, Riley is a world class OC. So far, he has not proven himself to be the Head Coach OU deserves. The jury is still out. Riley needs to make changes before a verdict is rendered. If McNeil is given the DC job and OU continues on a path of defensive ineptitudes then decisions need to made over Riley's head. The Big Ds (donors) will reign terror on the house of the 4-Bs (Ben, Bud, Barry & Bob) until the football gods have spoken. How about this for a brain wave: bring Gary Gibbs back!!!!

Minor changes yield big results, 4 man rush with the right combo of 4, every down, would change this defense overnight

Yep. Looked nice with Perkins, Bledsoe, Overton and Gallimore.

Let Overton and Gallimore clog up that middle and get Bledsoe and Perkins going around the ends rather than playing DEs as pseudo-DTs. Keep Bolton and Murray free to roam. They have noses for the ball, and they'll be in the right place at the right time. Have Bolton blitz now and then.

How about just trusting someone once in awhile? You want to noose up every Oklahoma player that makes a mistake. I'd love to see the roster of choir boys you pine for year-in and year-out. Lamb has not shown one iota of evidence that this is "going to continue."

“There were a lot more things I could have done rather than just run my mouth. I've just gotta become better at that part,” Lamb said. “We had quite a bit of penalties. That was the main one. That was 30 yards of penalties from one person, and that was me. That's just because I wanted to be selfish. That was on me. I'll take all the blame for it and I'll learn.”

You are over reacting to my statements.
Lamb and Ford need to be discouraged from causing costly and unnecessary personal fouls.
Lamb's post game remarks make me believe he was made to see the error of his ways, especially as he proclaimed such antics won't ever be repeated.
Where do you get off on my wanting to "noose up every player" that makes mistakes ?

I totally agree with the above. I think Perkins could become a Kevin Murphy kind of player with good coaching. He has the potential to be that good as he gets more experience. I really like his game.

If this is coming from Lamb then let's give him an opportunity to correct a mistake. This statement shows some maturity. Maybe I'm just old school but if this had happened on a hard nosed DC he would have been running the bleachers until his ass dragged out his tracks heading to the locker room.

It's hard to get a perspective on Lamb's infraction from a radio broadcast (I'm in Nigeria) but Toby made it sound pretty bad. and Getting the second penalty ignited Lehman in the background. Was Redmond as impactful as Toby made him out to be? Kudos, if so.

As you said, I was just over reacting. I feel you tend to pronounce doom and gloom every time a Sooner player does something boneheaded, on or off of the field. Maybe I work closer to young people more often. It's easy to forget how childish they act and are when they present themselves in adult bodies. You see an adult, but you commonly get an adolescent. It can be confusing. They're still in school. They're still learning.

I personally didn't see anything egregious in what Lamb did, and I'm not aware of ongoing childish behavior by him. If anything, I thought he was the more mature player in the heat of that situation. Maybe his initial penalty was hotheaded, but his reaction to the response by the Tech player was commendable in my assessment. It was Lamb who turned and walked away from the situation. His words continued, but his back was towards the action, and he was far distanced when the 2nd penalty flew. If I recall correctly, he also kept his hands down while the Tech player continued to badger and shove him. He showed a lot of restraint in my opinion. The look of shock on his face was a good indicator that he didn't do anything egregious. Compare it to Ford's penalty in which Ford looked totally expecting of the penalty and didn't care. That was a guy that had lost it and didn't care.

I just feel we need to give people an honest second chance when they flub. I feel it's a half-assed second chance when it comes with a threat - "I'll bench you next time." etc. Would we rather our coach act like one of these Last Chance U buffoons? Lamb said he learned and won't do it again. I say go 100% in on his words this time until he proves us to be fools with another outlandish display.

I just don't think its Riley's style or personality to go all nuclear on the sideline on a player, see Mike Stoops. He seems to prefer to do that later and maybe in his Office in Private. I am just speculating but we don't know what he said to Lamb behind closed doors. Probably same situation with Bakers antics at the Kansas game. What ever he said to him later it worked. Riley is the Captain of his ship and runs it how he sees fit. I am ok with that.
