Softball: OU beats Louisville 2-1. Falls to UTenn 2-1.

OU had to play back to back with essentially no break.

In game one, Louisville tied OU in T4, but with Clifton on second and one out in B4, their pitcher overthrew first on a grounder into the circle and Clifton scored the wining run. Lowary had a dominant performance.

In game two, Clifton led of B1 with a double. It's the only Sooner hit so far. UTenn got a walk and a hit and a wild pitch which led to second and third with two outs. Their number 8 hitter drilled a single down the right field line

OU's only base runner since Clifton's lead double was Aviu in the fourth on a HBP .6

Now in T6 and the Vols batting, OU still trailed 2-0.

OU gets two base runners in B6 on a walk and Aviu's two out single, but Pendley's fly out ended the inning. With only the seventh left, OU has only Dalton, Wodach, and Arnold left. Neither Dalton nor Wodach has a hit this season against a good pitcher. Wodach's one hit was a little looper that was dropped last weekend, but called a hit.

UTenn has a runner at second and two out in the seventh against Parker.

UTenn wins 2-1 after it got interesting in the B7.

Two Vol errors led to second and third with a run in and two outs.

Romero hit a liner to short right and the UTenn right fielder made a diving catch to save the game for them.

UTenn is now 11-0. OU is 7-3.

I'm not as concerned about seeding this year as normally. I think the pitching depth is a problem for a road team. That is one thing I think we have. It would be nice to find a hitter at #7 or 8.

But, thus far, the season isn't gathering much focus. First weekend: #1 OU loses two one-run games to teams that are #2 and #8 in the nation. Weekend three, OU loses another one-run game to a team that is #15.

So, Florida become #1 after week one and promptly loses 4-2 to a Maryland team that was 0-8. After that one win, they are back to normal, losing 3-0 to Drake.

Since Florida couldn't hold #1, Florida State became #1. So, they lose in theri first game defending #1 to Texas A&M 2-0. We don't really know what A&M has yet because they have been undefeated against the Popcorn States of the world.

It looked like Georgia was making a move with a 12-0 start that included nine run-rule wins.. Then, they went to Vegas and lost to BYU 4-0 and to UCLA 10-5.

Well, maybe it should be Pitt who shocked people by opening 9-0 with a couple of wins over ranked Kentucky (ranked at the time). Well, they just lost 1-0 to Lipscomb on a seventh-inning walk-off home run.

If you want to be #1, don't play anyone.
