Hmm, trying something new here. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a Scoop staff member is gonna give you three thoughts to start the day.
OU-related, but not necessarily football related all the time.
Mon - @BPrzybylo
Wed - @Josh_M
Fri - @Eddie_Rado (get your weekend started right)
So, here it is, the inaugural Scoop Wakeup (better name pending):
1. What tone will Lincoln Riley bring to today's press conference?
It's the first one, post-Mike Stoops, so not sure how Riley is going to handle that situation as we all move back to status quo with the weekly press conference in a few hours.
Think we're all in agreement this was the right move, but sort of wonder how Riley is going to be able to rally the troops, especially guys like Caleb Kelly and Nik Bonitto, who immediately came out to support Stoops on social media.
Division is too big of a word, but is there such a thing as "Mike's guys" vs. the rest of the defensive group?
You look at the rankings, and things could seriously work themselves out again for OU to be in the hunt for something special. Ohio State-Michigan play each other. Alabama-LSU play each other and will prob play UGA in the SEC championship. A Notre Dame loss sure would make things even easier, but you hope the defensive group will be united the rest of the way because they can still do big things.
2. What will happen with OU and St. Thomas Aquinas?
Already briefly mentioned Nik Bonitto, but it's clear Mike Stoops had been putting in that work at St. Thomas Aquinas, the high school with the most NFL players competing this season.
So it's crucial Jaden Davis, also from STA, keeps saying things like this:
Obviously, OU is trying for a second STA recruit in the secondary with Jordan Battle, currently committed to Ohio State. The open week last week should have given Riley/OU the opportunity to explain to STA what's up and how things will go from here.
It's not just Bonitto, Davis and Battle, it was planting a firm foundation for 2020 and beyond.
"Dumervil is next," was what a source said after Stoops was able to nail down Jaden Davis during the summer.
OU fought so hard to get the 'in' with a top-tier non-regional school. How does that bond stay secure? It's a big one, for sure.
3. OKPreps 2020 running back makes history, gets S/O
Dude, these 2020 running backs are just being born in the wrong year. Add another in Tulsa (Okla.) Edison's Sevion Morrison.
Morrison has been nothing short of incredible this year for the Eagles, especially in the last couple of weeks.
Coaches from Michigan and OU (Cale Gundy, Drew Hill) are among those now following him on social media and with good reason.
Morrison had 15 carries for 273 yards and four touchdowns in last Friday's win and has now set the single-season record at Edison with 1,604 rushing yards so far.
Who did he eclipse? Former OU star Spencer Tillman, who gave Morrison the S/O on social media this weekend:
Morrison has rushed for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns in the last two games to go from a nice feel-good story to now being a legitimate dude to watch the rest of the way.
Between Jase McClellan and Jaylan Knighton (commits) and targets Seth McGowan, Kendall Milton, Zach Evans, Dominic Richardson, well, you can add another in Morrison.
