Why would we stay is a zone defense when to QB run was eating our lunch? Martinez had us spread out all over the field looking like the proverbial deer in the head lights. The next time Lebby speaks of Gabriel's accuracy someone needs to call him out. Gabriels missed several open receivers with very bad passes. It appears to me that Gabriel is a very average QB at this point.

Ted Roof.
Still a headscratcher for me.

Gabriel is a fine young man, great leadership skills, but there’s a reason he was a 3* QB coming out of high school with only two offers from Power Five programs. He’s good, but he is not an elite talent.

With that being said, putting up 34 points and 500 total yards against a team that scored 10 points against Tulane last week should have been more than sufficient to win this game. This loss is primarily on the defense.

You stay in a zone offense against a back like Deuce because he'll kill you in the running game if you play man. Great backs force a lot of zones.

This was a total team loss and I don't believe it can just be blamed on the Defense alone. Sure the D did not play well tonight as both Martinez ( 148 ) and Vaughn ( 116 ) gashed them on the ground. The 11 penalties sure didn't help the cause tonight also for OU.

Gabriel when looking at the stats had a good game but the eye test says different tonight. He had an off night missing wide open receivers and I am sure he will watch game film and see those missed opportunities and hopefully learn from them. It just wasn't a good night all around for this OU team.

Now we get to see what this team is made of along with the coaching staff as they have to get ready for TCU which will be another tough game.

OK, stay in the zone and the QB beats the crap out of us. You logic does not compute. So according to you we stay in the zone and Martinez runs up our ass? We stayed in the zone D and got our asses handed to us. Do we just allow a continued ass kicking instead of changing up?

Difference maker players do that to you. When Martinez doesn't turn the ball over, and play like an idiot, he is a difference maker quarterback. And Vaughn is one of two running backs in the conference with that designation.

Every blitz package we used tonight, KState blocked it. This was a game when we had to outscore them. OUr offensive mistakes kept that from happening.

Sooners face the same K-State Offense plan year after year...historically. To fail to recognize this offensive game plan, is a coaching failure. Collin Klein did it...Skyler Thompson did it..,and now Adrian Martinez did it. Real strange defense last night. We were exposed clearly.

@Scottsdale.Sooner we all love the message BV is conveying but you've been around watching OU football many years, do you by any change recall the BV Prevent defense he ran at OU before moving on to Clemson. That defense last night looked very similiar and brought back some really bad memories I had of the BV Prevent defense that prevented absolutely nothing. Essentially that's what we ran last night was a prevent zone defense.

I have as much disdain for Grinch as I do Riley but thinking about our defense from the last couple of years got me to thinking how much trouble Grinch was having just getting db's to turn their head to look for the ball etc. Those are basic comprehension issues and I'm not sure if some of this is on the kids we have just not being good at basic issues or if this is a coaching issue. Regardless BV did do well at Clemson with his own guys so I'm going to give him the benefit this year.

Afterall I don't see BV chasing the caliber of the majority of our D players in recruiting, he's shooting higher.

LV,I argue with you a lot, but this is right on the nose. We both had 5th/6th year senior QBs. Ours was from UCF. Theirs was from a blue blood program.

Not much else to say.

Yes, mine was not meant as a slam on DG, but the reality is that it's going to take BV a couple of years to get this team back to its historically elite status, and that includes Jackson Arnold getting a year of experience under his belt.

We have some very good young linebackers on the sideline, these upper classmen are not great.

I think most fans were realsitic about what we had going into the season. Some were not but thats every season with CF Fans in general.
We lost 40% of our roster after last season and had to hit the TP to make up for it. I think the Coaches realize what they have and will do the best they can with what they have, if anyone thought the Defense was going to be leaps and bounds better in this short amount of time was being unrealistic.
Which brings me to a lot of fans reactions after the loss. I think a lot of fans are just tired of losing games like the way we did last night. Defensive blunders, losing to K State yet again has gotten old, lost 3 of the last 4 I think they said.

OU Number 18 in AP Poll. Big drop but expected.

That was just a weird defensive call on 3rd and 16. #2 walks to the right side of Oline (to the boundary) and Ethan Downs loops around to that side as well. This left the middle of the field wide open. White was the spy I'm guessing but he was 15yrd off the ball. Just a poor play call.

All I can hope for is that these young men take it personally. They were not the better team Saturday night and it cost them. The penalties came at the worst possible times and Gabriel was inconsistent and a few misses really cost us important momentum. And that 3rd and 16 was painful to watch. Absolutely inexcusable.

They better bring the pain against TCU and right the ship. Everything they want to achieve is attainable and its better to lose early than late. But there's blood in the water and if they don't find their identity quick.
