NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma Sooners baseball team continued their scorching start to the 2025 season with a decisive 15-4 victory over Texas Southern on Tuesday, February 25, at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The seven-inning run-rule win improved the Sooners’ record to an impressive 7-0, marking their best opening stretch in over a decade.

From the outset, Oklahoma’s offense wasted no time asserting control. Sophomore Kyle Branch ignited the rally with a leadoff single in the second inning, followed by a walk to Dayton Tockey, setting the stage for a scoring outburst. The Sooners piled on 14 runs by the fourth inning, with freshman Dawson Willis contributing a key RBI single to cap a relentless attack. Texas Southern managed a brief response, cutting the deficit to 14-3, but Oklahoma’s bats answered back to maintain a commanding lead.

Jacob Gholston showcased impressive determination on the mound for the Sooners, skillfully managing four solid innings. Reid Henlsey stepped in confidently to finish the game in the seventh. The pitching staff’s composure harmonized beautifully with an explosive offense, as the bases were loaded in the sixth—yet no additional runs were needed to clinch an exhilarating victory!

With this win, Oklahoma continues to build momentum in their inaugural SEC campaign, showcasing a blend of power and depth that promises an exciting season ahead. The Sooners return to action Wednesday, February 26, for the second game of the midweek series against Texas Southern, aiming to keep their undefeated streak alive.
