I'm making absolutely NO comparisons to our current QB's here... just something I found that I think is nuts, and it REALLY goes to show the vast difference in offenses in 2000 vs 2015.
Josh Heupel finished 2nd in the Heisman voting for his 2000 season, and many people thought he should've won it. These were his numbers that year:
64.6% completion
3,606 passing yards
7.6 YPA
20 TD's (+7 Rushing TD's)
15 INT's
136.4 QB rating
The bolded numbers are what blows my mind. He was 2nd in the Heisman voting for putting up what we would call today "pedestrian" numbers. 3,600 yards isn't even really that many yards compared to someone today. But a 20 TD to 15 INT ratio?? That's the epitome of pedestrian. Even when you add on his 7 rushing TD's that year, it doesn't help that much.
Mariota's numbers last year:
68.3% completion
4,454 yards
42 TD's (+15 Rushing TD's)
4 INT's
181.7 QB rating
My oh my what a difference 15 years make...
