You guys gonna go get your former QB to be your new head coach? I still didn't see Riley leaving for USC. You guys could have matched the offer, you have great facilities, a huge fan base, and have had a much better decade. Perhaps he didn't want to coach in the SEC?

Yeah this smells of a chickensh$t move for sure. He can be the big fish in the PAC-12.

Perhaps

OU fired Josh Heupel in 2014. Why would they want him back?
It's 2021. Mel Tucker wasn't a 100 million dollar coach. Gus Malzahn was seen as the guy to take Auburn over Alabama. Cincy was a joke of a GO5 team. Cardale Jones was about to win the first playoff under Urban Meyer. Scott Frost was about to take over a winless UCF team.

A lot changes in two years. Ryan Day and Lincoln Riley were unknowns. Clemsoning was still a thing. Should I continue?

Heupel isn't an option.

OU can.....and must.....aim much higher.
And it can.
Well Florida and USC are now filled. I would say LSU is your biggest competitor for a top flight name. But who can you get? No on James Franklin or Luke Fickell. Lane Kiffin? Bob Stoops? Josh McDaniel or Eric Bienemy? I'm sure there is a list we don't know of because Oklahoma has a good A.D. As fans we can just speculate. How long was this in the works, and did Riley let anybody know he had interest. I'm not a Sooner fan, but this news shocked me.

We knew Mullen was on the hot seat, but his firing before the FSU game shocked most. Mullen couldn't recruit. For you guys I thought Riley had it made, but maybe he wants an easier road in the Pac 12 at the Premier program. In the SEC he won't be the lead guy.

I've got three shrooms and a Happy Meal. You think I want any sleep right now? The colors!!! Perhaps that was the perk package Tennessee offered Heupel. You guys can do better than that.

Don't be a jerk. Just because he's not part of the same old clique of regular posters you trash on him? He was just stating opinion and asking questions.
Thanks. I get the whole message board thing though. I probably would be salty losing a guy like Riley, and having an outsider bring up what I'm sure is not the top tier name most would think an Oklahoma could attract to replace him.

I was just watching the news of Florida hiring Billy Napier, and while he isn't a huge name. I got excited. Then I heard about this breaking news, and I didn't believe it.

Josh would be a fail as a hire. no disrespect but OU would be making a change within 5 years while struggling all 5 years. not a good idea

I wonder what Riley's thoughts were about OU leaving the Big 12 and going to the SEC, the timing of him leaving speaks volumes on that

You know, I never did hear Riley's true thoughts on moving to the SEC. It sure looks like he is getting as far away from it as possible.

Riley doesn't want to Coach in the SEC.
His offense is a better fit in the PAC.
Had OU not left the BIG 12 I doubt he would be leaving.
What's funny is Alabama has transitioned into a much more uptempo offense the last few years. I think that along with Lane Kiffin, and Mike Leach have leaked into the SEC. You guys will need to be more physical, but it's his defense that I would have worried about.

Saban went up tempo after OU beat them in the Sugar Bowl, he saw where the game was headed. Before that he was vehemently against the HUNH Offenses and he along with other Coaches that hated the up tempo offenses tried to get the NCAA to make rules changes to slow them down, they claimed it was about player safety but I think it was more in line with not liking how the game was changing and they didn't want it to evolve from the ground and pound offenses of the old days.
Riley is a Leach disciple, defense is always an afterthought.

I think Riley saw all those patsy games going away in favor of Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, and a rotating schedule of Georgia, or Florida. Oh and Texas, even if you've owned them. At USC he has Oregon and Utah?

Lincoln buyout is 25 million, so we have that money to use towards our next coach. I think Bob hangs around until the new hire. But we'll lose most of the 23 class. All those west coast recruits will follow Riley to USC.

That’s what USC and Riley are counting on. Do you think that had anything to do with USC’s interest? 😉

This will be your first real coaching search this century. It's really new ground for your football program. Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Nebraska, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, USC, Miami, Tennessee, Notre Dame and several others have had numerous coaching changes since you guys really had to look out of house.

You left out Ron Zook. X100.

I don't see Kingsbury at OU. Dude has done well in the NFL, but he was a mediocre college coach. He was fired at Texas Tech, where he went 35-40 (.467), with only two winning seasons in six years. His best season with Patrick Mahomes at QB was 7-6. There are certain coaches who are good in the NFL and not so good in college (Kingsbury), and some who are good in college and not so good in the NFL (Nick Saban).
