"fiffy"... got a nice ring to it.

Well tcu, bammer and sparty let us down and (other than the tide) pulled out tight wins after all.

Dantonio or however its spelled could possibly replace Bob. He always looks like he's mad which is what made Bob great early. That new Mechiken coach may be an option too... (ironically they face each other next Sat)

I think we all lose a bit of a grasp on reality when the season starts and the boys are on the field every week. We beat a few bad teams and suddenly we're expecting more than what we had in mind in the off season.

Did anybody predict this group to win the conference or make the playoff? I don't recall it.

There's nothing happening on the field right now that wasn't discussed with rationality before we kicked off against Akron.

The offensive line isn't good. We knew it was replacing 4 starters.

The offense is inconsistent. We have a new coordinator and QB.

The defense has holes. We don't have a game changer on the line. Our game changer is an undersized linebacker who's a rush specialist. We have new coaches at several spot as well.

We can get better. This group has potential, but we're playing about as good as most expected and picked a bad game to have an off day.
Didn't Bama replace an OFF Coordinator last season and make the playoffs? Wait we aint Bama some will say but thats bull, we should be right up there too, this is OU. Bama also had a new QB last season, I could go on and on. I for one am tired of the excuses. Just who is responsible for replacing these holes we have? How is it that OU had one of the most explosive offenses in CFB history when Bradford was here and we could not use that to our advantage to recruit better QB's, WR's etc and an OFF line? HS players love to play in that type of offense yet we are where we are today? Mind Boggling!

And thats the sad part, what we have come to expect as Sooner fans.

You said it all bro!!!

67,

We have recruited top flight QBs, RBs and OL. Last year's line was one the best in the country and allowed one of the nations best backs to shine.

I'd like to know how many teams make a title title push replacing 80% of their OL.

Losing blinds so many of you from seeing the forest for the trees. Things aren't peachy, nobody is saying that, but having all the pieces come together in one season is difficult.

I have questions of my own and I'm embarrassed and disappointed to lose to such a mess of a team. But desperate teams are dangerous.

Because that was 8 years ago & we haven't started signing 4th graders yet to my knowledge
My point was why did we go after a mobile QB and that type offense? Was it because of Johnny Football? If so then we screwed up big time. Wasn't TK recruited to run that type offense? If so well that worked out just dandy!

The irony is we went after a mobile QB in Knight and then refused to let him run.

This writer sums up some of our concerns in 3 Short Paragraphs, but that doesn't, and shouldn't, take our Recreational 'Bob Bashing' away from us...That will continue until next week, when we have a new game to cuss, and discuss...

Nothing will change the outcome of today's game...Nothing new will be reported...Same info', worded differently, or simply repeated, but we will all continue to try to find ways to accept that which we dislike so much. Some say, 'Get used to it, that's the way it's going to be'. What's the option?

I stopped reading when the author of the "article" referred to Texas as the Yellow Jackets.

If Bob Stoops would learn to run block better, protect the pocket, catch the balls that are catch-able, stop jumping off sides, keep his hands off face masks, tackle better, quit having unsportsmanlike penalties thrown at him, he just might last a few more years at Oklahoma. But if he can't do all that, he needs to go. We'll find a coach that CAN do all that.

Actually, I just wish that Bob Stoops would get his brother to teach and demand proper tackling. The TD run down the sideline yesterday shouldn't have ever happened. Our DBs never run through the ball carrier and wrap up. They just push or try to run into the runner with their shoulder. Its been that way for years. That is on the coach, not the player. Players have to be taught and made to tackle correctly. If they can't or won't, they shouldn't play. Too many missed tackles due to poor execution.

Dang good post right here Oklabama. You are exactly right. Bob can't be on the field to hold these players hands and do these things for them, but it's certainly up to the coaches to teach the fundamentals to the players so they DO perform these things. OUs tackling yesterday overall was awful.

Exactly!!! Poor O-line play and poor tackling were our downfall yesterday. Saw a stat last night that texass had 165 yards AFTER contact. That, to me, says they were running through arm tackles and bouncing off of undersized DBs like Sanchez who would rather try to run into the ball carrier to try and knock them down instead of wrapping them up and taking them down.

BR there are a number of fans that will wanna keep Bob around forever because they are afraid of who we might get if he leaves. They are satisfied with 10 win seasons and a bowl game. Some are even okay with 8 or 9 win seasons for a few years. Personally, I'm not satisfied with that anymore. Losing these big games has been going on for years now and it just seems like a big win is rare. We have come out flat for 3 years in a row against Texas now and I find that hard to believe. Is it the players? Coaches? I don't know what the answer is anymore.
Some good posts here....and here is my opinion, from a 66 year old who has lived and died by this team all his life:
I want at least another championship before I'm gone. I do not see such event happening anytime soon as OU seems to be mired in stagnation.....or at least stagnation by Oklahoma standards.
The Big 12 has lost its luster in recent years with the defections of 4 teams, the decline of OU and Texas, and the emergence of Baylor and TCU as the two stalwarts of the conference. In that scenario, OU is now only an "also ran"....a team that will win more than it will lose and earn a bowl berth every year....and a team always falling victim to upset losses or just bad losses.
OU is stuck at a "B" level right now and seems a long way from being in the "A" level. Yesterday's "C-" level of play was disturbing, in all fairness to Texas and its solid play.

Sometimes I think it must be that Mike is allowing these types of tackles to protect his small DBs. If so, tackling will never improve. Since its been this way for a long time now, it appears that the coaching staff has come the to conclusion that putting a physical defense on the field isn't possible in the Big 12 anymore. I can't think of any other explanation. I used to go watch practices when Switzer was coaching when he was allowing fans to watch. Bobby Proctor would scream at his DBs when they did stuff that we saw yesterday. LB tackling isn't as good as when Stoops first came to OU either. It is something that has to taught and drilled continuously. Doesn't happen anymore because there is rarely contact scrimmages after the season starts now days. But OU has one of the softest defenses around. We need to bring back the snot knocker award.

22 I'm a believer that in sports regardless if its little league, hs or college that the players take on the personality of the coach( coaches)....for the past few years we have developed the reputation of being soft.

There are many teams that do a lot more with a lot less. IMHO you coach players to the next level rather than adjust your play to their current level. It takes work to turn a good players/teams into great players/teams. The motivation has to be there for players, team and coaches to go from good to great. In the end, it all boils down to coaching and I'm unsure if the coaches have it in them any more. Without some change, we'll continue to field good rather than great teams.

OU's longest drought since WW2 without a national championship is 18 years (1956-1974).

Bob's teams are now at 16 years and counting. I'm not at all convinced that he has any more championships in him. I imagine that many other long-time fans feel the same way.

Probably not at OU. Bob probably needs a change as much as the university does. JMO.
