"Horns down" gesture will draw a flag according to Big 12 officials....

Nothing like a subjective rule. How about this, just don't penalize it. Period.
Nothing worse than seeing the officials in any college game watching the players like a hawk after a TD—God forbid the kids *gasp* celebrate a TD with their teammates. Oh, the humanity!!

How has the league shown it is all about Texas?
Obviously that’s a bit of an exaggeration but this thread is Exhibit A: Horns Up/Down has been a part of this rivalry forever with no complaints. Along comes your coach Pee Wee Herman crying about it and suddenly everyone doing horns down is getting flagged.

I live in Nebraska and the Huskirt fans STILL to this day have a laundry list of things UT did that made them think it was all about UT and made them want to leave.

You can't be serious? The Big 12 has always been about Texas why do you think these other schools left? Why did Arkansas leave the SWC ?
You might want to do a little research on the subject.Unless you are a very young person you know exactly why.

Actually, you may want to do some research and not believe everything you hear on a fan message board.

Actually, the horns down was brought up originally by Mack Brown in 2012. This stemmed from Mike Davis being flagged for “holstering his guns” during a Tech game. Apply the rules consistently. Is that so much to ask?

I agree the rule is stupid. However, the officials should not be allowed to enforce the rule in some cases and ignore it in other cases. If it is going to be enforced, enforce it for all. Or better yet, get rid of the rule.

Actually I’m 59 and I have seen it firsthand , way before any message boards were around.
You are obviously young and get most of YOUR info there.

In my 50’s too. Please elaborate with specifics.

By the way, Arkansas left because of all of the cheating in the SWC, specifically A&M and SMU. In fact, Frank Broyles tried to get Texas to join them in the SEC when they left the SWC. This has been stated numerous times by Broyles through out the years.

People are clowning texas over the entire country for this. Defend away but you look foolish.

Do you not think the rule, should be applied equally across the conference? Why should OU be allowed to not get penalized when other teams are penalized?

And for Nebraska’s anger towards Texas, it’s a little misplaced. Texas only had on vote in the Big XII, just like every other school in the Big XII. Nebraska lost a lot of votes 11-1. Why didn’t the old Big 8 schools vote in line with Nebraska?

Dude you are in a longhorn bubble.Nobody outstide of austin looks at things the way you do. Nobody wanted to stand up to Texas and here we are. ESPN gave you your network and actually thought it would make money based on Texas popularity. But now it’s a ball and chain. OU has carried this conference for years now and yet Texas still gets what they want in most decisions. If you think Arky left because of cheating I can’t help you. Texas and their administration is deluded even though they should be humbled but no they are still the arrogant fan base they’ve always been. If OU leaves we will see if Texas can carry the Big 12,I think not.

So Frank Broyles is a liar? Got it.

If you want to have a real discussion, I am all for it. But if the discussion is going to be tainted by your hate, nothing I say or evidence I provide will change your mind.

100% agree with this here.

I think this is where you’re losing everyone. When your boy Herman started to whine like a little kid, it’s on him and your team. I understand Mack Brown whined about it too. But come on, that was how many years ago? Pretty sure the issue had died down until Herman decided to resurrect it.

I think they should throw a flag if you don't help a guy up after you've tackled him. And also, if the QB fails to say "may I?" before going under center.

Probably because of the league office acting like a bunch of pvssies in regards to Hagar and the "OU sucks" comment.

Thank goodness Brian Bosworth isn't playing now. (I am probably one of the few Longhorns you will encounter that actually like him. He helped make the series great).

If the league is going to "enforce" the taunting and good sportsmanship rules, shouldn't the enforcement be applied equally across the conference or do you believe that some schools should be penalized or told to issue an apology while other schools are not?

Why should West Virginia (David Sills this year) be flagged for "horns down" and OU shouldn't be? If you are going to apply the rule to some, apply it to all or don't apply it at all.

What about the Tuck Fexas sign?
It’s just hookem with a bird added, but it’s always pointing up. ;)
Besides, I throw it way more anyway.
I’ve always thought horns down was silly unless OU was playing texass. It’s dumb to see OU fans throwing it when we’re playing some other team.

Even most Arky fans hate Broyles, I know I have lived amongst the idiot hog fans for over 30 yrs now. How do you know he was an honest person and never lied? Do you have a hotline to God and he told you Frank was honest? If you do, give me the number because I want to ask him why he hates the texass longwhorns as much as we do. Baaaaa ha ha ha

Hated Broyles? Ok...what ever it takes to make you sleep at night.

You’re reaching in this post so hard it’s ridiculous.

All this BS with the horns down will cause more heartburn for Texas players, coaches and fans than anyone. The world sees them as cry babies and mocking them. They are going to regret Herman making an ass out of himself. LMAO.

Straight from the horse’s ass... PeeWee speaks, “We’ve been disrespected for as long as that hand signal has been around. We’re kinda used to it.”

While he feels disrespected today, he’s gonna feel violated tomorrow.

I wouldn’t push it unless the penalty is known. It’s stupid for the conference to even address this so I don’t trust what it would do if there was a mass planned horns down. This is so ridiculous. B12 presidents should get the balls to shut this down next year. Screw the Longhorn snowflakes.

I agree it should be ignored but if you are going to enforce it, do it all the way including when texas flashes it. I think it is fun and should remain part of the game. Problem I see is texas doesn't realize it is just as obscene to others when they flash it.

Yep a lot of them do and blame him for taking them to a league they cannot compete in. Take a look at some of their message boards, a lot of them want to come to the Big 12 so they can be relevant, most of them even believe they would win the Big 12 most years lol some of them drink too much kool-aid.

The point is you (meaning Horns) don't view Horns Up as taunting, but did you ever consider that the Coaches, Players and Fans of other Teams might? So why not get rid of all hand gestures is the point, why single out a certain hand gesture and claim it is taunting. Why does the Big 12 see Horns Down as taunting, because UT says it is? So should all of the other schools go to the Big 12 and say they feel like UT doing Horns Up is taunting? It's all ridiculous.

So obscene, Baylor, TCU, A&M, Florida, Oregon State, Texas Tech, Vandy, UTSA, Oregon, FSU, North Texas, Miami, KState, U of H, Hawaii, NC State, Southern Cal, USF, and ASU all have some sort of hand/arms & hand signal.

Do be mad, go invent your own.

Besides Horn Coaches Past and Present, players and fans...…………..find one person who thinks Horns Down is Taunting. I'm just making a point that anyone can interpret anything as taunting if they are P***y enough. Like I said, it's all ridiculous. Either ban everything or let everything go!

All we are saying is that if you Texass fans believe the horns down sign is taunting, then the horns up sign is also taunting. Nothing different. Both hand gestures are meant to get under the skin of other people. Sooner fans throw the horns down to get under the skin of Texass fans and shorthorns throw horns up to get under our skin.

Since when has this board censored the word Petty?

I don't consider it taunting at all. I think it's funny this is an issue at all.
