Frost fired. Now we won't know what to expect.

Just like Martinez followed by Frost, the Husker fans are good at chasing Frankenstein out of town. This even with the Husker fans saying we’re good before the season gets cranked up. This Sat game will be dictated by the Sooner pass rush. Put the heat on Thompson and watch the Husker faithful march to the exits.

I'm wondering if Trev's successor will be making the decision on the next coach.
What leads the board to think Trev and Frost were placed in the same basket? Why would Alberts be fired? He hired a coach that just put up a 12-0 season at UCF. I have always understood that Alberts was a popular choice of AD by the Cornhusker masses. Is my understanding wrong?

Honestly I don't think Trev was that popular of a choice. Some Nebraska fans like to have people with Nebraska ties involved with the program. I also know several Nebraska fans that don't really care for Trev. The reason they don't care for Trev was because when he was AD at the University of Nebraska Omaha, he was responsible for the athletic department dropping wrestling and football. That didn't sit very well with a lot of people in this state.

TA played at the small Lab school my kids graduated from & his portrait was hung in the foyer. Sadly the City & State finally won and UNI bulldozed the old k-12 facility a few years ago. School politics are rotten

I think there were a lot of Neb fans who loved Tom Osborne, but didn't want him as AD.
What would OU fans have thought of Barry as the AD when Steve was brought in?
I probably love Barry as much as anyone. But, I would have been able to see the issues with him being the AD.

I hear you but I would think dropping wrestling and football at UNO was a business decision and not made by personal choices. If some aspect of your department hemorrhages money over a given period of time amputation may be the only answer. Can one man end programs at public universities? I am not trying to defend Alberts because I have no idea about his performance as the AD. I had assumed he was a choice made by Osborne, which could be a poor assumption on my part.

I know several former UNO football players that still don't like Trev for what he did with the football program. I honestly don't think it came down to just a business decision. It was more of a political decision in my opinion.

So many good posts in this thread. But as with any & all things in our lives, it all comes down to leadership. If you hire the right person, you’ll get where you want to go. They haven’t struck gold yet. A few years ago everyone was saying ND couldn’t win anymore because of academic requirements. We’ll all they did was win.
Finding a Switzer, an Osborne, or a Bob Stoops isn’t easy no matter what school you’re at. Leadership is everything.

So you are saying that a profitable football program was killed off because of a political decision? What politics could end a program if it was profitable and healthy? You know, selling season tickets, drawing reasonable crowds, etc. I have worked with many that I didn't like for one reason or another. Did the football program end because of a mass walkout or player rebellion because of the AD?

It was reported in May 2011, that UNO was invited to Div 1 Summit League. UNO decided to drop football and wrestling because the programs were financially unsustainable in D1 league. It was approved by the board of regents. It also says that the Div 1 Summit League did not support these two sports. I guess the cost to move up from D2 to D1 was ending the programs.

I don't know Trev personally so i cannot comment on his character.

I know what was reported, I also know what was said behind the scenes. Football was dropped because there were Board of Regents who didn't want to have two Division 1 football teams in the state of Nebraska. At the time UNO was having quite a bit of success the beloved Cornstinkers were not have much success. The people that wanted the program dropped thought if UNO dropped football that the Cornstinkers would get more walkons. The kicker of the whole deal is hockey. UNO has the only Division 1 hockey program in the state. At the time the decision was made to drop UNO football, the Big Ten was starting up hockey for the Big Ten Conference. There was talk of the Cornstinkers starting hockey. It's the opinion of the former players that I know and the former coach that the biggest reason football was dropped at UNO was because of hockey. You drop football and we won't start up a hockey program deal was made.

I also don't know Trev, but I will say this about his character. It's been reported several times that he informed the wrestling coach at UNO about the decision to drop wrestling over the phone immediately after they won the National Championship.

University of South Dakota and South Dakota State are both in the Summit League and play FCS football. Football at UNO could have continued to work.

I received word from a neighbor that’s a game watch buddy that according to the Teddy Lehman radio show on his drive to Omaha today that “T Alberts announced that IF the interim Coach is victorious tomorrow, he will be hired immediately”. Lehman is doubtful about that being true; who knows but Venables needs the Sooners to prevent that from happening.
BOOMER !

Huskers up to bush league antics
Pulling hotel fire alarms ...making escort to game conveniently late. Leave it to the Cornfvckers
OU team stayed in Omaha. I was in the hotel across the street from them. I was told on Friday evening that the team would leave at 5 am to Lincoln. We left at 6 am and the buses were still there. It was pissing down rain hard at 6 am for a couple of hours. It was 62 degrees and raining at 9 am in Lincoln. It had cleared up to nice skies and 77 degrees at kick off. Traffic was bad both in and out. The road access into the stadium area is very odd. Railroad tracks and rail yard near the stadium makes for interesting traffic also.

Driving in Lincoln flat out sucks.

I agree 110%. We zig zagged around to get to the tailgate lot next to the Husker basketball arena. It took about 45 minutes to get from Omaha to Lincoln in heavy rain and about 45 minutes to get the next 5 miles. I highly recommend staying in Omaha. It is has been many years since I've been here. The downtown area is very nice. Old town is cool.

I really like Omaha, not a fan of Lincoln at all.

I got lucky yesterday with the traffic yesterday. I got Lincoln about 8:30, which was before they started closing streets down. A friend of mine that lives in Lincoln had a heck of a time getting to the parking lot that we were tailgating in.
