Everything was lining up to fire Strong, and hire Chip Kelly as the next UT coach. We could not get it done this year, so a loss to Texas would be minimally painful, and virtually guaranty another year for Strong. Chip Kelly could do more severe and long-standing damage to OU than we could withstand in the current climate.
In the end, it was a good move by administration to intentionally lose the battle, in order to preserve our chances to win the war.
