Again, it could be very interesting this weekend. Sooner softball goes to Fayetteville for two Saturday and one Sunday.

In SEC games Parker is currently 1-26. That equates to a batting average of .039. I know she has a big bat and all but that is one serious slump and I wonder when PG may decide to sit her bat or lack of out for a few games. Those numbers are through todays Tenn game.

Sanders is 5-30 in SEC games or a .167 average but she did come up big today. OU needs both of those bats to come around.

I miscalculated Parker and Sanders when going through the box scores but here is the actual conference stats for the OU hitters and Pitchers in SEC play only. Parker is at .074 ( not much different and Sanders is at .179. As a team they are hitting .275 in conference play. Parkers last HR came vs Missouri after going 13 games without one.

https://soonersports.com/sports/softball/stats/2025 - Hitters

On the pitching side they have given up 15 HR in conference play and has a team ERA of 3.17. Of the 65 hits allowed the opponents have a total of 23 extra base hits which tranlsates into 35% of all hits allowed are extra base variety. Last season the pitching staff only allowed 48 of 130 hits to be turned into extra base hits. ( 37% ) Of course those stats last season in conference play came from the B12. However at this point in the season this pitching staff is on pace to allow less extra base hits than last seasons staff.

For a more detailed breakdown for those that like these type of things ( best source out there in my opinion ) is at the link below as you can break down a players hitting by categories. ( Just click on hitting and a drop down menu appears )

Just a side note pitching wise, Landry and Deal for example vs. RHH and LHH on the season.

Landry - (LHH) .163 (RHH) .208
Deal - (LHH) .185 (RHH) .234

The only downside of the NCAA site is it doesn't allow you to break down by conference play without having to do the work yourself. On the flip side the Soonersports site has the basic conference stats but does not allow you to see the L/R stats or other more detailed stats that this NCAA site has.

OU takes 3-0 lead in bottom of 3 thanks to Pickering bases clearing 3 run double. Landry has perfect game going with 2 outs in top 4 and walks the batter then proceeds to fall completely apart giving up 5 runs. Tennessee leads 5-3

Props to Pickens for pitching lights out after giving up 3 runs in that 3rd. Kudos to Pickering for her bat and D in this series loss.

Tennesse takes series with 5-3 win as in my opinion they showed they had the no quit attitude. Hopefully the OU young team learns from this. Pitching continued to be a problem on a consistant basis, especially with leads.

Yeah, I’m really surprised that Parker has had so much trouble for so long. I’d like to see her take advantage of the wind blowing out to right field today.
Parker is hitting .074 in conference play. Gasso needs to let someone swing the bat as the DH. As a team Ou is hitting .275 against SEC pitchers.

Well, the pitching wasn’t great, but, the bats were dead. If you only score 3 runs a game you’ll lose a lot of games in the SEC. How many hits did the Sooners have today? Not enough.

Here is the stats from the Tennessee series and it tells a lot.

Only two hitters hit well in this series.

Dayton .444 ( 4-9 ) and Pickering ( 7-8 ) .875

The rest of the team hit .103 ( 6-58 ) )

If you take out the PH in this series the starters outside of Dayton of Pickering only hit ( .107 ) 6-56

Mcenroe Marinas was 1-9 in this series and K'd 5 times.

No way is this team going to beat teams like Tennessee when no one is producing down the order. Maybe they can use this coming weeks games to try to figure out who can get the bats going again. Ella Parker and Sanders are key to this lineup for producing runs in the 5-6 hole. Emerling is either K or HR hitter and Garcia has cooled off some.

NOTES

Ella Parker went 0-for-4 at the plate and is now 2-for-26 in conference play.
OU coach Patty Gasso indicated that Parker has been dealing with an injury, and she just hasn't looked comfortable at the plate. It'll be interesting to monitor her status the rest of the weekend.
"I will not take her out of this lineup because she is one of the best hitters I’ve ever seen," Gasso said. "Maybe you’re not seeing it the way you want to see it or I’m not seeing it the way I want to see it right now but it doesn’t change my belief in who she is and what she can do with one swing.
"I have no problem with what’s she doing right. She’s going to get there. You have to give them a chance to figure out how to deal with some of the pain that is going on right now. I believe in her. I’m not going to make that change."

I hope Patty’s right because if she wrong we’re in for a long season unless one or two players up their game.

Same here. Looking ahead at the SEC schedule I think this team will have to score 5 or more runs most nights. I just don’t see the pitching being able to be counted on to keep teams at bay for the most part in the SEC games.

For those interested the OU softball team beat St Thomas in run rule fashion tonight 12-4 but it almost didnt happen. Monticelli came in to pitch the 5th with a 12-1 lead and proceeded to give up a leadoff HR, walk the next 2 batters then a hit plus an error allowing 2 more runs to score to make it 12-4. They did catch the batter in a rundown to get the first out. The defense then sealed the game.

Ella Parker goes 0-2 but Sanders hits 2 HRs in this game. In all OU had 4 if I remember right as this game was only on the radio since it was moved up a day. Plank is tough to listen to at times but he puts his heart into the softball team.

The baseball team lost to LSU 2-0 as Anderson ( think that was the Tigers pitchers name ) struck out like 13 OU hitters. OU had loaded the bases in first inning with 1 out but proceeded to go down on Ks the next 2 hitters. From that point on LSU P took over.

Softball plays UCF tomorrow while hopefully the baseball team find a way to beat LSU.

Ella Parker came up with the biggest hit of the night vs. UCF in the 3rd inning by delivering a grand slam HR to extend the OU lead to 6-0. She would finish the night 1-4 as the Sooners were held scoreless the rest of the way. In the 4th inning Parker again came up with the bases loaded and on the 3-2 count she would go down looking on a pitch that the home plate umpire had called all night long. It didn't help that Parker tried to make the call for the ump by taking off for first. I had no issue with the HP Ump honestly as he was very consistent with his balls and strikes but it was obvious he wanted the players to know who was in charge of calling those.

The pitching was very good tonight, S Landry was relieved by Lowry in the 4th inning with 2 outs and would close out the final 2-1/3 innings. Lowry faced 7 batters and fanned 3. I am curious if she gets the start tomorrow vs UCF or if we see Deal on the mound. Pickering now has a 13 game hitting streak for OU as she continues her red hot streak.

Outside of the grand slam from Parker the UCF pitching was pretty good and tomorrow's game should be interesting. UCF isn't a bad team by any stretch of imagination.

I gave up on the baseball game after OU fell behind 6-2 as LSU just seems to have the Sooners number in all sports thus far.

You’re right about the umpire. He called a lot of strikes that looked low to me but on replay with a side view I think he was right. Bottom line if any part of the ball passes over any part of the plate in the strike zone it's a strike. And he was very consistent. Other than the strike out Parker made good contact with the ball, but I’d like to see her pull the ball more and take advantage of her strength. Our pitching was really good for the most part. Overall good game and win against a decent opponent.
