OUr softball team is 19-0 and ranked number one in the country. But there are two SEC teams that are undefeated, two in the country. The other is South Carolina, who opens the conference season this Friday with a three games series in Norman. Carolina has played a pretty weak schedule until this past weekend. They went to number 8 Duke and swept the three-game series in Durham my a combined score of 30-16. Duke made the WCWS last season, losing to OU and Alabama to go 0-2. But they have became a very solid program, Last season, they were 28-3 at home.

By the way, what does South Carolina call their women's teams?

The Cocketts?

Pitching has been an issue tonight . Heading to bottom of 5 with the game tied at 6. SC had a 5 run 2nd to go up 5-1 as Deal had 3 WP in the inning OU D committed 3 errors ( they scored on as a hit that was an error ). Deal went 4 innings before being lifted after walking first batter in top 5.

Bella Smith relieved her and walked 3 in the inning. SC tied it on a SF to LF while OU had bases loaded with no outs in 3rd after taking back the lead at 6-5. However OU with a chance to break game wide open came up empty.

As I type this, Emerling just delivered a 2 run homer to put OU back on top 8-6.

OU wins 10-9 after Hannah Coor delivered a clutch 2 out 2 RBI double in 6th to put OU up 10-6. In the 7th Smith hit the first batter then walked 2nd batter. She then gave up a 3 run shot to the 3rd batter to make it a 10-9 game. OU managed to get the next 3 outs to win 10-9.

This SC team can hit but tonight the P struggled for OU. Deal like Smith struggled to find the K zone. Smith K-B ratio was not goodz. Deal and Smith combined for 144 P with only 76 in the K zone. Smith walked 4 and Deal 1.

It would have helped if our infield had played a clean game. Regardless, I enjoy winning close games like this one.

Note: CT’s most jovial post ever was !
I love Femmes of Rock, check out the girls on YouTube !
Carrion in your old Gettysburg 😀 home !!

Pitching continues to be a huge issue for OU vs SC today. The OU offense spotted Bella Smith a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning as OU had back to back to back HR.

Smith then gave up back to back HR to SC in the 2nd and proceeded to load the bases but fortunatly OU didnt give up another run. OU added a run in the 3rd to go up 6-2.

Trouble again hit Smith in the 4th loading the bases once again. She struck out the SC clean up hitter only to give up the game tying grand slam to the next hitter. P Monticello came in after Smith walked the next batter after the grand slam. Monticello proceeded to throw 2 WP moving the go ahead run to 3rd. She would score the go ahead run on a SF.

At this moment OU is batting in bottom of 4. SC can hit but the OU pitching is a huge ? Mark at this point. Hopefully OU comes back to win

OU now down 8-6 on a fielding error by Pickering RF. Prior to that she had made a great diving catch. Once again the run was set up by a walk.

M. Marinas 3 run shot puts OU back up 9-8. Her 2nd HR of day and 6th RBI. Bottom 5 with no outs and a SC pitching change

These type of games are nail biters but with this young team I think it will only help down the line. I am not sure they ever said why Landry wasn’t available. Must be a minor injury because they said it was just for this weekend.

Does Deal start game 3?

Wouldn’t surprise me but I like to see Landry.

We have one pitcher on this team who can pitch effectively for more than one game on the weekend: Landry. She wasn't available. Smith is decent, but in the SEC, without a high level fast ball, the more she is seen, the more likely she is to be hit hard. And USC can flat hit. The middle of their order gave us more trouble than the top. Heck, the bottom of their order gave us more trouble than the top. The biggest difference in the pitching in the series, though, was the guy behind plate, especially Friday night. In horrible weather conditions, there wasn't a pitcher's pitch location available. Look at their starter in game one. She got one out getting shelled. Yesterday, she was stellar with a fair zone.

It was a good start to SEC play. But if we dont have Landry next weekend, I doubt we even win the series at Fayetteville. I have an outlandish guess that she actually has some small injury, as an excuse, but the real reason she didn't pitch was because she violated some team rule, and had to sit the weekend. We'll find out in a week or two.

Not trying sound cocky here but I will be surprised if UA even takes 1 game from OU. As poor as OUs pitching was this past weekend I think the SC bats had a lot to do with making them look bad. This was a SC team that can flat out hit. OU just hit a little better at the time those hits were needed.

I don’t think Arkansas has the bats like SC does overall. I may be wrong but it wouldn’t be the first time. Ole Miss won 2 of 3 from them this past weekend but did get pounded 20-3 on the Sunday game.

As for Sam Landry I doubt it was a team rule issue as even some of the radio guys stated she would not be available due to a small injury that should only keep her out for the SC series. Either way, if it was a team rule violation issue I think that says a lot about PG to sit her number 1 pitcher out. No matter who you are no exceptions should be made. To bad many FB coaches and even basketball coaches tend to let things go for the star players.

I do believe OU may lose a series or two and suffer some losses in a few other series unless the second and third line pitching gets better.

Last weekend was definitely a weekend where the home teams thrived mostly. Let's see how the Pigs do at home. And how we do on the road. I'm also very interested to see how the Shorthorn ladies do in three games at Florida. Every game in the SEC seems to be loseable, especially on the road. It will also be interesting to see how all of the conference teams beating up on each other, will impact the national rankings.

Who do I root for between UF-Tx? Hmm, can’t really stand either one but I am pretty sure I dislike Tx more than UF so hopefully Florida at least wins the series.

As long as SEC teams are beating each other I doubt it affects the National Rankings much. The voters refuse to punish SEC teams much in the rankings. I think its in the by laws for the voters. ( sarcasm) )

I'll hold my nose and pull for Texas. I despise UF. I'd love it if for the third time in five years, we beat Texas for the natty.
