OT - New Defensive Staff or National Championship

So here is the question, "Which do you want more a new defensive staff or a national championship?" You do realize that you won't get both. If OU holds Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame to under 40 then OU wins those games and wins a National Championship but also keeps this defensive staff. If OU gives up more than 40 to those teams then they probably lose but we get a new defensive staff. Which do we want more?

How Many Recruits Will OU Lose By Not Naming a DC?

2? 3? More?

Whatever the reason, LR not naming a new DC surely will cost OU a few defensive recruits if they wait until after their bowl game with Alabama (as is now being reported) before announcing a new hire.

I really can't imagine going in to a recruit's home and not being able to tell him who his DC or position coach will be, especially if he's planning on signing during the early period in just a few weeks. I assume the best you can do is ask the recruit to wait and sign later.

It's a problem. The are reasons for Riley waiting -- I get it. But it's likely to hurt the Sooners and cost them a few recruits.

Sunday Notes...(UPDATE: 11:08p)

UPDATE: 11:08p - I'm told that Dennis Simmons will be in Houston on Tuesday checking out Latrell Neville.

It sounds like the next 48 hours will have a lot of Houston feel to it so keep an eye on that.

I'm also told that Cale Gundy and Lincoln Riley will be in-home with E.J. Ndoma-Ogar tonight.

ORIGINAL:
Alright guys, obviously Oklahoma is making up for time and is out on the road today...

*I'm told that Bill Bedenbaugh is up in Iowa watching a pair of Iowa junior college games. Not surprisingly the first one was Iowa Central vs. Monroe college, a game Central won 34-20. Obviously be was there watching offensive tackle offer Myron Cunningham - who I've currently got Oklahoma forecasted with but who will be visiting Arkansas next weekend.

*I'm also told that Oklahoma is currently (as in they are there 'as I type this') doing an in-home visit with five-star receiver commitment Trejan Bridges. I'm working to confirm who is there, will relay that when I have it.

*I expect Calvin Thibodeaux to be in-home today or tonight with Marcus Hicks and then be around Houston later in the week to see both Marcus Stripling and David Ugwoegbu.

Perhaps the most interesting thing I've heard so far? Joseph Wete will get an in-home visit on Friday and it will be Riley and Shane Beamer coming to see him. He continues to seemingly have no relationship with Bob Diaco.

I think that says all you need to know about that staff position.

Pete Golding/DC scuttlebutt...

...Hearing it from way too many different avenues that there is legitimate smoke to OU hiring Alabama co-DC Pete Golding to take over as Sooners defensive coordinator.

Sometimes one source/media outlet says something, and then everybody jumps on the bandwagon. So then it appears like everybody is hearing the same thing when in reality you're just trusting the word of one person.

This, though? This feels different. This is coming from about three or four different wavelengths that usually don't intersect. So either everyone is WANTING to believe it's true... or it's pretty damn close to actually being true.

I told ya I didn't think it'd happen before early signing period (Dec. 19-21). But if Lincoln Riley and OU know their guy on Nov. 18 and Golding wants to make that leap to full DC and not co-DC, it won't take a month to get it accomplished.

There's no social media signs yet, but obviously that doesn't tell the whole story:

He's young... but so was Riley. Maybe?

What was your FIRST ever Oklahoma Football game you attended?

I wanted to start this thread because I would LOVE to see who went to the oldest game that’s on this board. I know some guys are in their 70s so I would guess we at least have some who went to some games in the 50s.

Mine wasn’t very old obviously as I’m only 29, but my first game was when I was 11. I went to the 2000 Season opener against UTEP. I went with my dad. I have never loved a sporting event more in my life then I did that day. I watched Ronaldo Works look like Superman and carry the entire UTEP team into the endzone. My dad bought me a foam finger that I still have to this day. My dad and I sat beside 2 men that looked just like Santa and everyone around me high fived each other the entire game.

The crowd was packed out and we hadn’t even won 10 games in over a decade. That’s why I know our fan base is the best. I was addicted to the environment. I remember it getting dark and them turning on the lights and it was a nice cool summer evening. One day when my dad passes that will be a day that I talk about at his funeral. What an amazing night that was as my Sooner Fandom was born and my blood turned to crimson.

When was your first game?

I’m embarrassed for us going fwd

Does anyone think with this sh_t show of a defense we can win the next two games? Our defense is DISGUSTING! I spend most
of our games laughing at the idiocy of what I watch on the defensive side of the ball. Riley is being pulled out of his play calling rhythm trying to protect the defense. He better get this shit straight
