Lol. Get suspended for a second time this season for a failed drug test, failed the next test and now straight up quits on his HS team. Blessing in disguise we aren’t landing him. Kid has bust written all over him.

Edit: Since the conversation is turning into a weed/ drug conversation

For me it’s not even about the failed drug test. It’s the fact he failed a second test and this is also the second time he’s been suspended (different reasons) and then just straight up quits on his team when they’re 5-0.

OT: Lets take turns being Rattlers PR Director

Ok Spencer, this is what you say about the booing

I dont like it but i understand it. We are struggling as an Offense and fans arent used to that at Oklahoma the standard is the standard and we arent reaching that and thats on me. I will keep my head down and keep working to get it better and turn the boos into cheers

This is NOT what to say or imply

I dont care..Im not listening..I didnt hear them..They dont play so they dont know what they are bitching about

This is what keeps seeping out of him and im telling you the more he fights back while still playing poorly the worse this thing between him and the fans is gonna be. Last night it was the student section it was NOT the entire crowd chanting. If he doesnt get his PR down soon its gonna be the entire 85,000 chanting

OT: If you work for Hertz

May God have mercy on your soul.

Flew in to OKC tonight, had a rental reservation with Hertz. My confirmation email today told me to proceed directly to the Gold Club member board where my name would be listed with the car that I should pick up. Did just that. The board was blank. No Hertz employees to be found. When I called their customer service they told me they didn’t release cars after hours. I asked why I was permitted to rent a car from them, then, as I’d indicated on the rental what time I’d be picking it up. This stumped the call center agent.

I got the second to last rental car from Dollar/Thrifty and my son almost got to hear his dad use colorful language. Let’s hope this is not a harbinger of things to come as we go to the game tomorrow. I guess what I’m saying is if we somehow blow this game you can blame Hertz Rental Cars.

WOKElahoma - September 21, 2021

Alright so this week is going to have a decidedly in-state feel to it...

First off we'll start with one of the guys whose inclusion on the visitor list last weekend was one of the more eye-catching things to me and that is Oklahoma City Heritage Hall athlete, and former Air Force commitment, Gavin Freeman.

For those that don't know, Freeman is the son of former Oklahoma tight end Jason Freeman (1995-98) and has been an absolute monster the last two years for the 4A Oklahoma powerhouse. The big-time playmaker obviously grew up with the program being a focal part of his thoughts but the Sooners, to date, had shown very little interest. So how was Freeman's time in Norman as the Sooners played host?

"It was great, game day never gets old in Norman," Freeman said of the visit.

And though it's easy to assume he has been in Norman a lot through the years that's not exactly the case for Freeman.

"My dad hates sitting in the stands," he laughed. "Every once in a while he'll feel like it."

And while that's all a nice story it kind of fits with my thoughts that Freeman could be another preferred walk-on pursuit for Oklahoma.

But in talking to one source, don't rule out that becoming something more.

"He's really good, guy is starting to win over some believers (at Oklahoma)," one source said.

I'm not telling you OU is going to offer Freeman but it's a possibility at some point down the road and we're not going to argue with it, Freeman is a TOUGH kid that could be a very interesting option as a slot receiver.

The one big official visitor who just hasn't said much so far is Tulsa Booker T. Washington Rivals100 cornerback offer Gentry Williams.

And while Williams and Oklahoma seem to be in a very good place it was interesting talking to one source who was around him this weekend and didn't feel that USC was even the biggest threat to Oklahoma at this point - Clay Helton or otherise.

"I think it's Oklahoma or Florida," the source said.

"He was definitely enjoying Oklahoma though."

And one would have to think there is something in there that Chris McClellan, a friend of Williams, visited Florida last weekend and is now hitting up Oklahoma this weekend.

And yes, I still find Williams' general silence to be interesting.

******************************

And I guess WOKE is a good place to start revealing my upcoming trips as I feel like you guys often get surprised by where I'm going.

This week's big trip will be to Lakeland, Fla. to check out Oklahoma's prized defensive line offer Gabe Dindy and the Dreadnaughts as they take on Winter Haven. Obviously I'll hope to catch up with he and/or his dad afterward to see what I can find out about Oklahoma's place in this situation but I continue to hear cautious optimism from everyone I speak with.

Finally it sounds like this weekend might be the first time you really see some Oklahoma staff out on the road in earnest including a possible stop by Denton (Texas) Ryan to see potential five-star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr.

Rattler NIL Deal: Two New Vehicles

LOOK: Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler earns two new cars in NIL deal

Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler tossed a career-high five touchdowns -- in one half -- in a 76-0 annihilation of Western Carolina last week, and on Friday he notched a career milestone off the field. Norman-based Fowler Automotive Group gave Rattler two new vehicles -- a 2021 Dodge Ram TRX and 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack -- as part of the name, image and likeness (NIL) deal they announced Friday.

The downside: Sooner coach Lincoln Riley probably won't accept any car-breaking-down excuses from Rattler if he's late to practice.

"Being QB1 for one of the best football programs in the country is hard work but all the hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed," Fowler Automotive wrote on Twitter. "Fowler Automotive wanted to find a way to keep our boy Spencer Rattler comfortable, when he is driving to and from practice, and even though there is only one Spencer, having just one car wasn't going to be enough, so we went big with two vehicles."

Moser musings (Sept. 17, 2021)

Anybody up for musings as the alliteration and unofficial title of whatever this is going to become?

Not promising this will be a weekly thing, but a lot of basketball info is coming out now and in the next couple of months heading into the early signing period in mid-November.

Let's just start with all the 'bad' stuff, huh.

Otega Oweh - sounds like Penn State.
Jaxon Kohler - sounds like Michigan State.
Nick Smith - prob Arkansas, but we know it's not OU. That planned official visit for this weekend has indeed been canceled.

OK, that's out of the way.

Coaches spent the first part of the week traveling to check in on last week's visitors, Denzel Aberdeen and Milos Uzan. A lot of optimism for OU regarding both, but no sources that are like "oh yea, this is the one" just yet.

The biggest thing does seem to be the work Jalen Hill and his family put in with Uzan. As said before, a Vegas kid who has stuck it out - who would know better what the OU experience is like than Hill?

Still work to be done with both, but no signs yet of things trending downhill, either.

So no Nick Smith this weekend, and the focus turns to 2023 OKPreps kids.

Coaches came back into town Thursday, and David Patrick and Porter Moser were in Del City in the afternoon to watch Garrison. And OU needs to keep up with everybody else when it comes to Parker because when it comes to in-state schools so far, OSU is doing a better job there, according to sources.

No official visits, but a couple of big ones from the loaded 2023 OKPreps class to keeps tabs on.

And a couple of 2023s from Texas.

That's what's gonna be sorta strange going forward. Moser and company have to play catch-up like mad for 2022, but are already on the right path and doing quality work for 2023. Different dynamic.

Let's Get Real About This Team

If OU wins every game they play by one point I will be thrilled while still disappointed because I expect more from this team. Here is my list of the positions that need to improve the most if OU is going undefeated.

1. QB
2. LINEBACKER
3. SAFETY
4. LINCOLN'S PLAYCALLING
5. WIDE RECEIVERS
6. OFFENSIVE LINE (START RAYM)
7. RUNNING BACK'S BLOCKING.

REPORT CARD: Nebraska

OFFENSE:

QB: Spencer Rattler - 68 - One of his toughest games to grade it was never 'bad' but it rarely reached above serviceable. Time to rethink expectations for him?
RB: Eric Gray - 87 - I love his development as a runner, he's working very well
WR: Jadon Haselwood - 89 - Man, it just can't be a coincidence that when OU was moving the ball, he was the guy making it happen in the air.
WR: Marvin Mims - 71 - It's harsh to even rank him beacause we're going to need a proof of life.
WR: Mike Woods - 76 - Had a few nice moments but is another guy that looked like he had more to give.
TE: Austin Stogner - 65 - Was another MIA today.
OT: Anton Harrison - 74 - There are a few plays that could swing this score but I wasn't able to really get into it while trying to keep up live.
OG: Marquis Hayes - 81 - I want to watch more but I thought he was pretty solid.
C: Robert Congel - 60 - OK, can we end this deal?
OG: Chris Murray - 84 - OU's best lineman for the third straight week. VERY physical as ever.
OT: Tyrese Robinson - 71 - I thought he got better as the game wore on but struggled early on.

Offense: Average: 75.3 (828)

DEFENSE:

DT: Isaiah Thomas - 87 - Score could have been mid-90s, created a LOT of pressure but missed several TFL/Sack opportunities.
NT: Perrion Winfrey - 90 - Man he was so active, and just keeps coming up with big plays in tight spots.
DT: Jalen Redmond - 92 - Second best player on the defense for my money.
RUSH: Nik Bonitto - 94 - Thought he was outstanding as well.
LB: DaShaun White - 75 - Had some good early moments in the run game but man his pass coverage is an issue.
LB: David Ugwoegbu - 78 - Kind of the exact same story as White.
NB: Delarrin Turner-Yell - 73 - I can't say he showed up a lot for me either way.
CB: DJ Graham - 81 - Incredible INT (and miss me with the he should have knocked it down, let's stay in reality) but thougth he was largely shaky.
CB: Jaden Davis - 65 - Struggled, gave up the late touchdown and largely just doesn't look like the guy we thought he might be as a freshman.
S: Pat Fields - 70 - Huge in the return game but I'm not sure it makes up for more of the passive play.
S: Justin Broiles - 60 - I can say it all but I've said it all before.

Defense Average: 78.6 (865)

SPECIAL TEAMS:

K: Gabe Brkic - 60 - Missed his only field goal of the day.
P: Michael Turk - 90 - Man, beautiful drop inside the five.
KR: Mario Williams - 81 - Had a decent return in the first half.
KR: Marvin Mims - 50 - WHAT WAS HE DOING FIELDING THAT?
PR: Marvin Mims - 87 - Was very consistent, as ever, in the return game.

Special Teams Average: 73.6 (368)

Key Reserves:

RB: Kennedy Brooks - 80 - Ran so well, blocked sooooo poorly.
WR: Mario Williams - 81 - He's electric, OU has to find a way to get him the ball more often.
WR: Cody Jackson - 77 - Starting to think he needs to be taking some snaps from some others.
WR: Drake Stoops - 86 - Lot of great contributions.
DE: Reggie Grimes - 83 - Thought he had another good day attacking people off the edge.

Reserves Average: 81.4 (407)

Team Average: 77.1 (2468)

My Team Grade: 71

Breakdown: Some great performances in this one over shadowed a lot of really mediocre stuff. I will say I thought Nebraska was a bit better defensively than I had expected but more than anything I thought there was some lackluster playcalling and just continued trying to flip the switch on and off. If the Sooners can ever find a way to get consistent effort and just generally look like a team that is on teh same page rather than 11 guys doing their own thing...maybe something comes to pass.

But you know what I'm done betting on that? I think the safest bet against the Sooners right now is laying the points.

I voiced my concerns all summer but honestly this is worse than I thought it could be - I thought they'd have an early season scare and snap upright. As it is, I'm just not sure I can believe that correction is coming. At least not to the level that OU needs to be the team we thought they might be.

Scoring Standard:

100-82: Playoff Contender
82-74: Big 12 Title Contender
74-65: Bowl Game Participant
65-0: 'I'll be hoooome for Christmas

This is slightly concerning...

I meant to post this last week. I know it's not super abnormal for players to do this stuff. But when your offense is not playing very well overall, you shouldn't be trying to force things.
Promising guys you're gonna throw it to them leads to things like triple coverage throws etc.

Rattler made him a promise for the upcoming game against the Catamounts.

"I told him(Haselwood) before the game 'I'm gonna get you in that end zone a couple of times,'" Rattler said. "And that's what we did. He came off the ball aggressive tonight and had a bunch of one-on-ones that he won... He played very well tonight."

"(Rattler) kept his word," Haselwood said. "I'm glad I could just contribute to the team, put some points on the board and make the coaches and my family proud."

Haselwood finished with 19 receiving yards and two touchdowns on four receptions in the winning effort.

OU will go as far as Spencer takes it, and that’s a good thing

This is Rattler’s team, here we go.

“I gotta go get it. As a team, we gotta go get a national championship,” Rattler said. “We gotta go get a Big 12 championship. So once we get that, we can celebrate after. But we gotta take those day by day and step by step to get there. Myself and the team. I think everybody on the team knows that for their own personal goals and the team goals. All the coaches know it. It just feels different this year. I think it’s going to be a fun year. I know we’re going to go do our job and have fun.”
