WOKElahoma - June 29, 2022

*So this note had largely been put together, and has now been altered, before this happened last night...

Obviously there's been a lot of speculation that this is in reference to a player that I mentioned the Sooners being in good shape for in Monday Notes, Rivals250 running back Daylan Smothers.

On Monday the buzz was that it could come down to Oklahoma and Florida State, who he visited last weekend, but the buzz is that actually N.C. State has a real role in his recruitment thanks in no small part to their pursuit of his friend Kevin Concepcion. But it feels like the Sooners, their offensive line recruiting, the production of Jeff Lebby's offenses, his relationship with Demarco Murray, and much more has Oklahoma in great shape.

Oklahoma felt like a longshot before his official visit during the ChampUBBQ but Smothers raved about that trip and since then it feels as though others are playing catchup.

If, as we all assume, Murray's tweet was in reference to Smothers then the point will be to get him to go public but according to our guy @RivalsFriedman that may not be that far away.

**One of the more buzzy rumors of the past few days has been the talk that Owasso, Okla. Rivals250 wide receiver Cole Adams is near a decision with plenty of people of the belief that Alabama will be the call.

Now in talking to some sources it seems as though the feeling that a decision is imminent may be a bit premature but it should be said that with Adams it is always a little hard to be sure of anything as he plays coy quite well.

What does seem to be happening is that Adams seems a bit caught between two schools, Oklahoma, who seems to have the support of half of his house, while Alabama seems to have the ear of the other half. So this may be a thing where the momentum sways back and forth a bit as time goes on or it could just be he ends up siding with one of his parents and immediately being done with his choice. Again, with Adams it is hard to be sure of much of anything with some saying a decision is imminent and others feeling he'll still take some more visits in the near future.

***After waiting a month or so for what felt like a choice that was set to come it's finally just about time to hear a verdict from one of Oklahoma's top targets, North Kansas City, Mo. Rivals250 defensive end P.J. Adebawore.

The big defensive end has always been very open about how strong his relationship with Miguel Chavis is and the Sooners have plenty of reason for optimism but with a final five of Northwestern, Georgia, LSU, and Missouri there's obviously plenty of work to be done before he announces - with some predicting that decision will come next week.

There has been buzz about each of the schools involved, interestingly enough notably the Wildcats, but in talking to a few sources the feeling is that this could come down to Oklahoma and Missouri. And though no one is yet sure of who will win out there is some feeling by some insiders that Oklahoma is the betting favorite here. It could be a huge win for the Sooners and, arguably, Chavis' first major win in Norman - something I expect you'll get used to in time.

OT: Corporate Restructuring

Looking for scoopers to provide advice and share stories of dealing with a corporate restructuring and how they managed the angst and uncertainty.

I have been pretty the last 10+ years with only 2 bosses and a very stable work environment but now things are changing and will soon have a new boss as the Lego pieces are shuffled.

Having a great boss is the biggest key to job satisfaction other than finding work that fits your skills and interests. At this stage, while I am experienced in dealing with change, I am not looking for upheaval in my life. I should add that my job is not in jeopardy as we are a regulatory agency, we are growing not cutting expenses and I have a solid track record.

What has been your experience?

Big Texan Steak Ranch Amarillo, Texas

These guys have some kind of steak cooking from the time they unlock the door, until they close the place down... Its kind of funny to watch some of the people trying the 72 oz. steak. Its usually the skinny guy that does it, most of the fat guys like me can't do it. 😆

MCWS Game Thread -- (Sooners headed to MCWS Championship Series)

Couple items before we get started today:

* Do we realize how good Oklahoma pitching has been in the NCAA Tournament? I did. But I also didn't. If that makes sense.

Since the start of the Big 12 Championship on May 24, Oklahoma has allowed four or fewer runs in nine of its 11 games and compiled a 3.55 team ERA. That's a good recipe for success when you're swinging the bats as well as this Sooners team.

"Skip does a really good job with the pitchers, teaching the same stuff, really, taking it one pitch at a time," said Tanner Tredaway. "We've got a lot of level-headed guys, guys that don't get too low or too high. Not too high on emotion, which I think is good. I think that's good. Keeps you locked in and stay in the moment."

Feels like it's going to be imperative that Jake Bennett finds the zone early in counts. Everyone knows A&M will sit up there and be patient taking a lot of pitches. If Bennett can get ahead of batters early in counts I think that'll be a good sign. Thought this was a great point brought up on the D1 preview podcast.

* Texas A&M and Ole Miss are the only teams to go undefeated (5-0) in the postseason. The Aggies' five-game win streak is the longest on the season for a squad that is 26-7 since April 5.
