First off, it is absolutely bonkers to be able to watch Fall games on ESPN! It's not just a single camera, it's 4 camera's complete with replays. Gotta love it!
*Kinzie Hansen looks fully healthy which is good to see. Not that I'm worried about the depth at the position because I think this is the deepest we have ever been at the Catcher position with her, Nugent, Erickson, and Lee.
*Kiersten Deal got rocked a couple times but that was really good hittng and it's going to happen against an OU lineup(ask Bahl about that) but Deal has excellent spin and can hit her spots well. She'll certainly push for innings this upcoming season.
*The battle between Brito and Torres at 3rd base is pretty even at the moment. Torres is looking really good on defense and Brito is tearing the cover off the ball. If they keep playing like this I think in the end it will come down to a player who's not even playing the position that will determine who will be the starter. That player is Hannah Coor. Brito needs Coor to show out in Left to help her secure that 3rd Base position and right now I don't think that is happening. Right now I would go with Torres at 3rd and Brito in Left to start the season. But, Coor may go on a tear to end Fall Ball so we'll see what happens.
*Jordy Bahl looks healthy and very impressive at the plate. She's fast and our most athletic player on the team(won the annual Triathlon this year) so she's going to get plenty of at bats next year with some occasional starts in positions other than the circle.
*Avery Hodge has been very impressive so far. Very smooth in the field and a really good contact hitter with plenty of speed. I expect to see a lot her early in the season at multiple positions.
*While I don't think we'll see much of Jocelyn Erickson behind the plate next season I do expect to see her get a lot of at bats early on. She is a hard hitting Lefty who looks really smooth with her swing.
*If Cydney Sanders stays healthy she is going to be an absolute beast! When asked after the WCWS about who I wanted from the Portal I basically said "If Sanders from ASU enters the Portal she would be at the top of my list. She hits for power and she fills a position of need".
*I hear it all the time about how much of a competitor Brito is and something I saw in the 2nd game of the Battle Series really showed that to me. While at bat against new transfer Storako she was battling and fouling a few balls off. Then Storako comes high and inside plunking Brito on the forearm. Brito spun with the pitch but immediately paused and stared Storako down. Storako wasn't backing down herself as she returned the favor with a stare down of her own as Brito took 1st base. Neither of them breaking a smile. That was fun to see.
I know, I know, it's football day but I had to get this out there before the game started. Boomer!
