Morning after thoughts from a bedwetter

The Good: if Roof gets all the blame for when the defense is awful then he needs to get the credit for last night. Dropping the DE’s into the passing lanes confused the hell out of Sanders and resulted in several deflections and the pick by Laulu. The scheme OU used was perfect and took away what OKST wanted to do which was have Sanders get into a rhythm by completing short passes. He wasn't able to do that which, in my opinion, frustrated him to where he took some chances and threw picks. Also, did anybody else notice we did more stunts and exotic blitzes to bring pressure? In games past we would just have our 4 DL go man up and would often get stalemated, last night they pulled a FUAG and used DL stunts and it worked!

The Fantastic: HOW ABOUT THAT DEFENSE!!!???? Not just the scheme as noted above, but the players, almost to a man on the defense played their best game of the year. Too many standout performances to name them all but the ones that really popped were Kelley, Laulu, White, Bowman, Coldon and Woodi. The secondary had their best game and that's not even because of the 4 picks. They had tight coverage all game and OKST didn't get much separation. Also, the DL FINALLY came to play and brought pressure all night. All around A+ effort. If the offense didn't shit the bed (more on that in a second), the defense might have pitched a shutout. They continually answered the call when put into AWFUL situations.

and the Ugly: Jeffrey Lebby and his inability to manage a clock. Much has been said of his atrocious playcalls and time mgmt last night but I still can't comprehend how bad it truly was.

As @BlackImpala noted:

OU’s longest drive the last 3 quarters was 1 minute 24 seconds
How is that even possible? Does Gabriel choke under pressure? Obviously. He's not a good QB, we all know that. Does that excuse Lebby for not taking the ball out of his hands and calling more run plays to chew the clock? Absolutely not. Calling "RPO's" or zone reads when your QB is clearly in a mental breakdown state isn't a smart idea because he consistently made the wrong choice. Take the guess out of it and call straight run plays. Deploy the wildcat to get an extra blocker if you have to, DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!

Lebby is great at putting together a gameplan, as you can see in the 1st quarter when almost every single scripted play worked flawlessly. What he can not do effectively is make any adjustments based on the game situations. Is your QB shitting the bed? If so, stop calling pass plays when you have a massive lead and your RB's are averaging 5.7 yards/rush. RUN THE BALL AND BLEED CLOCK.

Also, Venables has to step in at some point and put his foot down. Saban did it with Kiffin all the time in highly publicized sideline freakouts. @Jaaa noted that Venables was yelling into the headset in the 4th quarter which we can only assume was to Lebby. I have faith that he will figure that part of the game out since it's his job as head coach to manage the clock better and rein in pass-happy and no-huddle happy Lebby.

All in all, a great and extremely timely win in front of top defensive recruits that we absolutely need. If you asked me which I would rather have perform better last night it would definitely be the defense in front of Hicks, Bowen, Sanders, etc. We are now bowl eligible and look to be on the cusp of landing some elite recruits and we also beat little brother which not many of us believed would happen.
Contrary to what many on this board believe, it is possible to be absolutely thrilled at winning a huge game while also calling out some truly baffling coaching decisions.

Signed- Bedwetter.

If OU just took a knee

every offensive snap after the first quarter, but ran the play clock the full 40 seconds, they win that game 28-10 and OSU has 5 fewer possessions and 160~ fewer yards

OU’s longest drive the last 3 quarters was 1 minute 24 seconds

3 kneels and a punt would take off around 2 minutes 10 seconds

Defense was lights out. All 3 levels played great

David Hicks - Good Pt2

Alright,

This is a follow up to my previous post about David Hicks and A&M.

I have been informed by my friend, that David’s family is growing concerned by the lack of communication from Jimbo, and clarity of the future of the program. Throw in the locker room instability on top of that.

Bottom line? Mom is wanting him to go to OU, and be with Bates, and that is A&M’s major concern. They’re basically throwing everything they can at him, and telling him they’ll match whatever we give + 20%.

The NIL crew at A&M expects him to flip after this weekend.

Bedlam Postgame Notes ...

• Attendance for Saturday’s game at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium was 84,132, marking OU’s 146th straight sellout of an originally scheduled home game, dating back to the start of the 1999 season. It is the nation’s second-longest current streak.
• Oklahoma improved to 91-19-7 (.808) all-time against Oklahoma State and 44-9-2 (.818) in the series in Norman. OU’s .808 winning percentage vs. OSU is the best among the 25 FBS series with at least 110 games played.
• OU’s 91 wins against OSU are its most against one opponent and tied for the most in FBS history against one program (Nebraska has 91 wins vs. Kansas).
• OU has won 10 of the last 11 meetings and 17 of the last 20, and is 15-3 against the Cowboys with Mike Gundy as head coach.

• With its four interceptions tonight, Oklahoma now has 15 on the season and is tied with Kansas State for the Big 12 lead.

It was also OU’s second-most total yards gained in any quarter (record is 312 in third quarter at Colorado in 1980).
• The Sooners’ 224 passing yards in the first quarter were their most ever in an opening quarter (previous record was 202 vs. TCU in 2008). Tonight was only the second time OU has gained at least 200 passing yards in an opening quarter. The school record for passing yards in any quarter is 230 (fourth quarter vs. Texas Tech in 2007).
• OU has allowed a total of nine first-half points over the last two games (allowed six points last week at West Virginia and three tonight). OT: Another Low T post.

My background. Turned 65 last month. I've worked out (weights for prob the last 30 years) and cardio (endurance distance bicycle for the last 15 years -- not as much bicycle for the last 2-3 years because I need to spend more time with my grandson who lives with me). ANYWAY. For the last year or so I've found myself arguing with my brain more and more. I need to work out but my brain says "Nah. You're good." And when I do win the argument I find often I can't get through the entire workout without losing the argument. I've even started a work out and then without even finishing the first sets I quit because I just don't have the energy.

Soooo. I went to a hormone doctor and found out I have testosterone levels way low. They inserted a testosterone pellet in my butt last friday. Went upstairs today to work out for the first time since then. No argument from my brain. I just went up. Started out and felt good through the first sets. Plenty of energy. Finished all three sets like I used to. Never once did I have an argument with my brain about stopping. In fact, did a short set after I finished because I just felt good.

Has anyone else had this type of a rapid response? I'm wondering if this is just a placebo effect this soon. But I don't think it is because I just felt normal.

Edit: By put a pellet in my butt I meant they did a stab incision and inserted the pellet into the tissue on my right buttocks. Definitely wasn’t pleasurable. Lol.

Captain obvious here

The good news is this coaching staff will have a full year of film to work with, something they didn’t have before. They will have a big time recruiting class adding to their own players making up the majority of the team. Lebby will understand what worked and what didn’t and I expect BV to have very candid conversations with his coaches. DG had no one behind him pushing for starting role, that will not be the case next year. I believe Evers will be better, JA coming in early will pay dividends and the competition will be good. Defense won’t be so Jeckyl and Hyde, staff is pretty good even though non of believe in Roof. I think BV has a bigger say so in a number of things next year. I’m excited!

OU's perfect storm quarter (Notebook)

Best of the best from Bedlam.
