Smitty built

I’m sorry but I’ve been a fan of Smitty's for a long time but….. We are being pushed around like high schoolers on the oline and our TE’s can’t or won’t block anyone. I understand injuries are a pet of football but we have a literal MASH unit walking around on the sidelines. Is Smitty over rated or does everyone see what I’m noticing? I know DMack loves Smitty but it’s a valid question/concern.

This Is Fixable

Hawkins QB1 - looked very good once he settled in, and has amazing pocket awareness, throws a really nice ball.

Ozaeta - I’ve never seen play like that from a D1 lineman. Multiple times in multiple games letting guys go right by him. Inexcusable, I don’t care if you have to find somebody from the intramural team to play his position.

Woody benched - he’s too small for sec play, and generally hasn’t looked good at all this year.

Start Peyton Bowen over Billy Bowman - Billy is probably the 3rd best safety on the team, runs himself out of plays regularly. RSJ needs to be on the field every snap.

Baur Sharp removed from the team - I don’t even know what to say about this kids effort and blocking. It doesn’t exist. He should never see the field again.

Pettiway needs to start - best WR of the group outside of Burks.

Tatum RB1, Demarco needs to go after the season - dude hasn’t had a good RB since Gray fell into his lap, doesn’t know how to manage a rotation at all. Tatum gives Oklahoma the best chance to win.

Bill B - BV needs to take a hard look around the country at available options. Not saying he should be fired this year but we can no longer make excuses for him.

Lewis Carter should start next to Stutsman.

Let's Go!!!

I'm still mourning the JA debacle and really can't believe it was this bad. But love this coaching staff for doing the hard thing. Excited to see what Hawk can do, with this awesome defense! His composure on that stage Saturday was something else. I'm ready for Auburn and the rest of the season because our goals are still in front of us. P.S. I have to believe our line gets better.

Auburn Pre Game Press Conference

Just finished watching today’s presser with BV. Maybe I’m over-analyzing, but after listening to that presser I think his confidence in the offensive coaching staff is shot. Matching most of our fan base’s sentiment, he seems to have great disdain for the current use of RPOs in the offense. Made multiple mentions of simplifying the scheme, making it easier for players to communicate and be successful, etc.

Some of that was directed at JA for poor decision making, but I think most of it was towards the offensive staff. The hypothetical comparison he gave with giving his defensive players too much info and too many ways to fit a gap stood out as well.

Don’t want too be negative and assume the worst. There’s lots of season left, a new QB, hopefully some newfound help as the OL can potentially heal up. But I think BV is going to make whatever change is necessary offensively at the end of the season.

Football OU notepad: Venables still confident in Arnold, but it's Hawkins' time

It was a helluva 53-minute press conference from Venables, who explained why he made the quick decision to announce Mike Hawkins as the starting QB.

Joel Klatt

Go listen to his analysis of our offense. Our offensive coaching is just terrible. Our poor QB play is a symptom of poor coaching. So is our OL scheme, receiver blocking, and play calling. This is a coaching problem. Klatt thinks our offensive execution and game plan is perhaps the worst he has seen in his career. I believe him. My bet is that we win 5 games, and Venables gets one more shot to hire a good offensive coordinator.

Remaining Season Prognosis

Good morning Sooner friends. Sooner born and bred longtime lurker here. Holieway to Jackson in the ‘85 OB stole my heart as a 9 year old growing up in Lawton and have been hooked on Sooner Magic ever since.

Moved to CO following college in the 90s and have made my life here. But, my family and I have made it to Dallas or Norman or places between (Boulder and Lincoln and Stoolwater now in a different life) once a year.

This year’s trip was this past weekend back to OklaHOMEa. What an incredible atmosphere Saturday was, in Gaylord, on campus, in and around the Corner…this move to the SEC was the shot in the arm this fan base deserved and needed IMHO. No more trying to get hyped playing basketball schools on the gridiron.

My thoughts on the game and our season thus far: in a nutshell, like so many of you, the frustration is significant balancing the joy of finally getting to appreciate an elite defense with what is an inexplicably bad O.

BUT comma space I will opine this: if Jr. had started the entire game, we’d be undefeated this morning. I see nothing in retrospect to indicate otherwise. His impact on the flow and effectiveness of the offense was obvious IMO.

To that point: we certainly have significant challenges remaining in the schedule, but me thinks our defense will contain ANYone we play and, combined with even a marginal offensive effort each game (20-30 points), we should have a legitimate shot to win out the regular season.

So, from a lurker to now a poster, take my pointed pontifications for what they’re worth. BOOMER.
